Welcome to the June 2012 Fledgling Flyers thread. Park your mops, buckets and microfibre cloths here!!

A huge "thank you" to Toffee for leading us throughout May!! Hope you have a fabulous holiday in Spain!!

If you're house is a mess and you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and Wine along the way.

We advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be inundated! All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, and as we are all at different stages we will be using one of the following methods:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

More info here, here and here

All welcome!!

Home made cakes and bunting here yesterday as well. We had left it too late to buy bunting, none anywhere, so I downloaded a Union Flag bunting template, if anyone wants it coloured and laminated the triangles and strung it up on the front door. I was really impressed with the template, got 10 triangles out of one A4 sheet of paper. Your shabby chic one sounds great Foad.

Apart from the fruitless bunting shop we stayed home yesterday, just chilling out in the garden mostly. I'm confined to light duties at the moment, but managed to plane lots of seeds and do some weeding. Got DH to give the raised beds a thoroughly good soak and it then proceeded to rain all night.

It's our town carnival tonight, starts outside our house and goes through town to the big park the other end for a funfair and fireworks. DD is in the parade, hoping the rain stays away.

Glad your shopping trip went well PA - I rarely go to that town, but LOVE that John Lewis, that is the one thing that is missing from all the major shopping centres that are closer to us.

I am not feeling the festivities. SOme fucking wanker arseholes had their celebrations going until 4am!!! Angry I now have a migraine and a competition. Am in a vile mood and will happily string any one up by their fecking bunting... AngryAngryAngry

On the other hand do hope you all have lovely days.

BitchyInTheCorner · 03/06/2012 13:27

Two cups of coffee and a fry up for breakfast has helped although trying to decide between allergy tablets and migraine tablets.

laurenamium · 03/06/2012 14:54

Thanks bitchy

I'm back from jubilee "picnic in the park" it was TERRIBLE! 3 gazebos with a raffle, tombola, and cake stall and an unmanned manic bouncy castle. And lots of people smoking Sad I understand that people need to smoke but not around my DD thankyou

I'm definitely going to try and keep up with the detailed zone cleaning this month and the missions, looking around my house it's clean on first glance- no clutter or dirt, but under chairs, behind beds etc it's awful! So this is this months mission for me! To clean all the places that get forgotten about! Grin It's too early for fruity cider isn't it? Blush

Chocchip88 · 03/06/2012 18:11

Well day 3 has gone well, am going out tonight (rare occurrence!) so will shine my sink when I get in.
Had a good cleaning day, we had visitors this afternoon so a good reason to be spurred into action (and to eat cake) although DS was slightly traumatised by my friends DS and his violent streak. Got to love toddlers!

likelucklove · 03/06/2012 21:25

I have looked through but can't remember who said what because I'm so tired sorry Sad Will catch up tomorrow, realized I didn't update earlier

To Do

Get up and dressed in messy clothes, then my nice clothes and make up for party
Get DD up and dressed
Make bed and cot
Go and get more cake ingredients to make another one - They didn't want any more :(
-Hoover roughly--
Mop floors - No time!
Do 15 mins decluttering in hallway
Shine sink - Baby step 3
Clean bathrooms and kitchen roughly

Hope you all had a good day and hope you give them hell tonight Bitchy how unfair and rude Angry

BitchyInTheCorner · 03/06/2012 21:51

tbh I just want to go to sleep. Had a disappointing but educational day. Need to make some important decisions now. Flying has taken a back seat the last few days and now i need to get life sorted.

Plan of action for wednesday:
Paperwork
tackle my bedroom
fold and put away laundry
ironing
sort out kit
Make sure training kit is ready for tuesday.
Wii Zumba?
Early night

Hope you are all enjoying the weekend despite the weather

sanguinechompa · 03/06/2012 22:54

My eyes. My eyes. [Looks around for paramedics intravenous alcohol. ] Thank heavens that is over for another year the school fete was delightful as ever. Not sure me stumps will recover though ...reaches for bunion cream]

OK everyone, it's the start of the first full week of the month. Any newcomers to Flying might find this link (which neatly summarises the Flylady system) helpful.

Here is tomorrow's flight plan which should update when the website does.

Tomorrow's baby-step, number four, for Monday 4th June is here. It's about starting a control journal - which is a very useful thing to have - but imho you can ignore the post-it note stage.

This week, we will be in Zone 2, the kitchen The idea is to try and declutter for 15 mins a day in the current zone

If your kitchen is already decluttered, you can progress to detailed cleaning

You can find tomorrow's mission (looking upwards and cleaning kitchen cobwebs/light fittings) and indeed all the missions for the week here

The habit for June is a good one - drinking water - more info here (scroll down)

The daily focus for Monday is the home blessing] or what we call on here the "daily bleugh". The idea is to do a general quick clean of your house in about an hour (many of us find that quite challenging!) but the idea is not be remotely perfectionist about it. More info [[http://www.flylady.net/d/br/2012/05/14/what-is-weekly-home-blessing-hour/ here and here

Kids challenge here Again, this should update each day.

Hope I haven't forgotten anything! Grin

Flaps broken wings to all!!

Morning all!

Waiting for WAH job stuff to update, so using laptop and have time for personals Shock MNet may grind to a halt Wink

Bitchy hope it gets better soon. If we can help, I'm sure we will!
laure I'm with you on the smoking - really bugs me too. The entrance to our local shopping centre is littered with fag-ends and you have to fight your way through the fug to get in. Makes me Angry and very passive aggressive with the hand waving. They did put in an exclusion zone, but that only moved it about a metre away! Hmm
chocchip I love(?) a good crisis clean, but then I fall into the very bad habit of looking at the cleanliness and letting it all slip again Blush
LLL hope you got a good sleep and are feeling better. Have a Brew
sc thanks again for the thread. School fetes (when forced to attend when young) always made me sigh - I'm not looking forward to DS being that age, although I am for him going to school!
Big wing flaps to WhoKnows, Blue, Linzer, PA, Toffee, Engels, Ellie, Swan, PrinceWilliam, Droitwich(daddy?) and anyone else I have missed.

Today is a normal day for me, but I really must get into my bedroom as it still isn't dusted Blush. Quick clean of the house also on the cards!

Hope you have a good day everyone.

laurenamium · 04/06/2012 09:04

CarpeJugulum · 04/06/2012 11:10

...

...

I have a decluttered and clean bedroom excluding three drawers belonging to DH Shock Grin

The question is now - can I keep it that way! Wink

BitchyInTheCorner · 04/06/2012 12:59

ShockGrin Well done carpe Will you come sort out mine? Wink

There are several things going on here. One is the sorting out of the job situation - been out with sorting out ds too long, qualifications out of date, references an issue for same reasons etc.
One part is the sorting out the eating situation - regulars to the thread will know that this, like sleep, is a very long standing deep seated issue.
One part is training - needed to decide the approach to take after yesterday's comp. Couldn't sleep last night and now have a plan to discuss with coach.

Not long been awake. Going to grab a coffee and breakfast then get moving.

Chocchip88 · 04/06/2012 13:44

You're all so good! Hopefully by the end of this thread I'll be writing long lists and crossing things off too.
I have done 3 hours of work this morning while DS sleeps, which is surely the equivalent of 6 hours on a bank holiday!
I've kind of created a control journal with an app on my phone, I'm fully dressed (though no shoes) and plan to unpack another box of kitchen stuff today.
For now it's resting and catching up on The Apprentice Grin

sanguinechompa · 04/06/2012 16:02

Just flapping by to say 'sorry' for lack of personals. I'm fine but just keeping on top of migraine so trying to keep away from screens.

Hope those of you in the UK are in enjoying the BH.

Finally!
It has taken me more than two hours but I have finally caught
up on the thread (finished reading May first) !!
Have been busy and have been visiting my parents for a few days too, but am back now!
Microfibre cloths in hand!
Hi to everyone especially the newcomers LLL and chocchip!
Big thanks to Toffee - hope your holiday goes well!
And SC thanks for volunteering to lead this month (and :-) entertain
us with bunny tales!)

BH Monday here. Arrived back from parents yesterday evening and rushed straight out for the night. So today I need to:

Unpack and tidy away everything.
Menu plan for this week and draw up a grocery list for tomorrow.
Do some washing.
Make dinner.
Visit DMIL.
15 minutes decluttering (under the stairs, all the moving house boxes that need sorting before we move into our house).
General surface tidy in kitchen/bedroom.
Work on Control Journal.
Cuddle the cats, the horses and maybe even DH! (must make up for my 4day absence!)
GO TO BED at a reasonable time!

Fairly tame list! Going to do the babysteps again this month, plus decluttering and work on the control journal/ a basic weekly plan that will suit us!

Wing flaps to all!
Castle xxx

castlelough · 04/06/2012 16:28

By the way SC it is very reassuring that you haven't moved on to the detailed cleaning, because you've obviously been flying for a while. And it makes me feel like it's ok to take the time on the decluttering for now, and not get overwhelmed by trying to do everything at once!
So thanks for that! Thanks

MoreCatsThanKids · 04/06/2012 17:32

Hi chocchip, we are not all good - quite a few of us spend most of the time in the naughty corner under the cushions drinking Wine Blush

No flying to speak of here though am managing to keep up with laundry (i have found the bottom of the basket Blush) and swish and sweep really works!

Otherwise watching TV with DD and DH today as really cold and yuk here so decided Jubilee 'Fayre' was a no go. May go tomorrow instead. Have watched about 4 episodes of 'Doc Martin' so far Hmm

WhoKnowsWhereHerMajestyGoes · 04/06/2012 18:55

Hello everyone,

Another one here who has good Flying spells and, er, not so good ones. Some weeks I do all the missions, detailed cleaning the works, a lot of the time I just do the basic routines and try and keep everything tidy. I haven't got a clue what zone we're in a lot of the time (kitchen?). Having spent a couple of years diligently decluttering, we're not minimal yet as it all keeps creeping back, but it is a lot easier to keep on top of things and the house can be restored to a pretty decent state at about 30 mins notice now, whereas it took several hours before I started Flying.

Again, not much to report today, I am feeling under the weather and we have been out, also it's freezing. Just ticking over.

DD was in the local town carnival parade yesterday which was very exciting, have spent lots of my spare time today looking at everyones photos on FB, this is where it really comes into its own.

DS has invited a friend for a sleepover tomorrow, gulp. This is a first for us. He's a very nice boy, who lives just round the corner so it should be fine, but even so, I feel a bit nervous, if anyone has any tips, please pass them on!

Brices · 04/06/2012 19:12

Still to do today after DS milk and bed:-

Empty washing machine
Cobwebs / dust kitchen ceiling
Baby bottles
Dishes away and shine sink
Mop kitchen and loo floor
Pour gin and tonic

In between winding DS

laurenamium · 04/06/2012 19:28

Clean inside car ready for hoovering done
Visit a friend he cancelled- BBQ with parents instead

Hope everyone is ok!

likelucklove · 04/06/2012 19:43
