Fledglings Fly in Flaming June; C.H.A.O.S. will be banished soon!

sanguinechompa · 31/05/2012 08:27

Welcome to the June 2012 Fledgling Flyers thread. Park your mops, buckets and microfibre cloths here!!

A huge "thank you" to Toffee for leading us throughout May!! Hope you have a fabulous holiday in Spain!!

If you're house is a mess and you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and Wine along the way.

We advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be inundated! All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, and as we are all at different stages we will be using one of the following methods:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

More info here, here and here

All welcome!!

Hi LikeLuckLove,
I hope you are okay? Do something nice for yourself this evening and forget about your list - you've done HEAPS more than I have and I don't have a baby to contend with.

If your list is getting you down, then make your list shorter tomorrow!
You are just beginning flylady and you should give yourself time to adjust to it all.
Hugs from Castle

PositiveAttitude · 04/06/2012 21:14

Thanks, Castle I need it!! Wine Cheers! ANyone else going to keep me company here?

BitchyInTheCorner · 04/06/2012 21:32

I would PA but I am still decluttering. However, had to have a Biscuit break to get over getting myself stuck in the loft. Was lucky that my parents managed to break in and rescue me other wise I would have been explaining what it was like to jump out of the loft. However, I have now moved the fixings for the loft ladder so that you can now safely access the loft (it was a faulty screw part way through this process that caused the problems.)

Agree with a short list LL the power of three. 3 small achievable things. It helps when you are struggling with flying.

laurenamium · 04/06/2012 22:45

I'll join you PA!

swanthingafteranother · 04/06/2012 23:00

We'e had a lovely street party! All very genteel, including red white and blue pilau rice Confused, several labradors, westies, one virtual corgi [balloon].
Also a drunken gatecrasher with pink hair who kept downing shots of aquavit [although it turned it she DID live down the road, and was not technically a gatecrasher]

DH refused to attend [German emoticon] and hid indoors from several neighbours he actively dislikes (who of course asked fondly after him Grin

Someone tried to sell me some bunk beds, and there was several rather sad stories shared over the Pimms, so as a neighbourhood event it was very supportive, and jolly too Grin

SC fantastic pat on the back to you, I loved your cathartic summing up of fetes. Dh has forbidden me to do any craft sewing for fetes ever again, since as per usuel he had buy back all the blue hearts I once made.

And the Rain the Rain, what a relief....lawn is turning green again, and it held off for the street party, except for a brief squall.

Done
street party cookery
tried to count money for church but no-one turned up [wrong day?]
dh planted some plants for me
most of day spent gossiping with neighbours

castlelough · 04/06/2012 23:02

Ahem PA I am here. Look - under the counter.... :-)
Ooh it's turning into a session in the naughty corner!

Ta Da
Swept kitchen floor
Dug a 1m square patch in the field for planting salad ( will plant this week dig a bit more then...)
Fed the horses
Dropped into DMIL

Will do my before-bed routine and shine my sink (after my glass of wine! Wink

Night all!

swanthingafteranother · 04/06/2012 23:05

Bitchy I think you have reminded me to ALWAYS take a mobile in my pocket when up and down loft ladders. A good story for ds though! I hope you are alright Shock

Lauren sorry about the jubilee picnic; I was really prepared for the worst here, DH was in total denial about the whole event; I'm just relieved we had any fun at all Blush

Anyway. Morning all. Apologies. Late with links (still battling migraine). Back in a sec with it.

**
Today's baby-step, number five, for Tuesday 5th June is here doing everything we are already doing + banishing negative voices. Tis a good one really, because guilt gets us nowhere!

We are in Zone 2, the kitchen here. Try and declutter for 15 mins a day in the current zone.

If your kitchen is already decluttered, you can progress to detailed cleaning

Today's mission is wiping down the front of kitchen cabinets. (It's great that they all come around again isn't it - stops that rabbit in headlights feeling as you know you will get to it eventually!!)

The habit for June is drinking water

The daily focus for Tuesday is planning meals, activities, wardrobe, travel etc etc etc

Kids challenge is here 10-piece fling boogie

If I've missed anything, it will be in today's flight plan

Back to see what you have all been up to a bit later!

Have a good day eveyrone!

sc poor you. Waking with a headache is never good.

Have just searched for our mystery intruder and there are deletions everywhere, so we're not special. Wonder what it said though?! Hmm Grin

Today is an out and about day. Got a playdate with a friend this morning at 9.30 (eek! Shock) and then no clue about this afternoon.

I should have a list, but can't think so will maybe post again later!

sanguinechompa · 05/06/2012 08:04

Very wise words from Whoknows there about the ups and downs of Flying. I know the Fat Fairy is trying to get us all to be more consistent but rl does not always cooperate. It is good to remember that we are not aiming for perfection so that we don't get despondent and give up when things get tough. If we keep going with the basics when times are difficult and do more when life is kinder, then I reckon we are all doing OK Smile.

Hope you are feeling better today Whoknows - take it steady. And congrats to your dd!! (Hope you survived sleepover btw)

Please take note Likelucklove!! (You are allowed to be ill occasionally so don't be too hard on yourself!!! Sorry you are feeling rough and hope you recover soon!!) Hope you had a lovely birthday btw!

Glad you are not still stuck in the loft Bitchy!

Swan loved your description of the street party (and dogs in attendance). And arf at your dh's reaction!! My sister and family actually went away for a few days so they wouldn't have to be involved with the party on their street. (How's that for neighbourliness Confused!!) To be fair to her, she went all out for the last one (whatever it was - Children in Need or some such) and couldn't face blowing up balloons for 4 hours straight this time!!

Castlelough I would so love to have your list!!! "Fed horses/dug veg patch for salad" Can we swap please???? Oh and as for decluttering - it took a decade for this house to get like it is - so reckon it will take a good few years to reverse the situation!!

Hello Brices Are you a newcomer or a name-changer? (Please forgive my terrible memory) A warm welcome if the first and "helllllllllooo again" if latter!!

Choccochip well done re: cj - sounds v. efficient!

Morecats congrats on sighting bottom of laundry basket (always a red-letter day methinks! - happens once every 3 years in chompa household!!)

Lauren Sorry your local Jubilee bash was so disappointing ...

Carpe v. good going re: clean/decluttered boudoir!!

Foad A resounding 'no' to this place being show home!! (Holes in walls, falling plaster, cobwebs etc etc!!!) House is getting better ovearll - in a swings and roundabouts sort of way - but I'm a bit of a fraudulent thread leader I'm afraid Blush! Good going with the spontaneous bunting btw!

As for your question about internal decluttering v. detailed cleaning - I would say yes - definitely declutter internally first on the grounds that you can't clean clutter!! Your choice though - whatever suits you best.

Toffee, Blue and Feetheart If you happen to be lurking - hope you are all having a wonderful time on holiday!!

Huge wing flaps to PA, Linzer,, Engels, Ellie PrinceWilliam, Honu Droitwich(Mummy and/or Daddy?) and anyone else I may have inadvertently forgotten.

My house has that "post-festivity bomb-site" look about it!! Still feeling a bit grim (migraine behind one eye) but determined to slowly go around and put things back in moderate order as chaos is driving me mad!!

Rabbits causing concern. They were both doing brilliantly well with the litter training but one has started to poo and pee in places he shouldn't. Time for the snip methinks... Second rabbit seems to have a raw ear ... Oh dear ....
Time to call the vet again ....

OP posts:
sanguinechompa · 05/06/2012 08:07

xposts How intriguing Carpe!! Wouldn't thought a cleaning thread would be worthy of sabotage!!

And thank you - meant to say "migraine behind one eye got to manageable stage now" - even to point where I hope I can watch a bit of the Jubilee/procession service on the box this morning.

Hope all of you in the UK enjoy your last day of celebrations!

Had to have a major whole house tidy yesterday as parents suddenly announced they were visiting Shock tomorrow in laws are visiting but as I now have a tidier house I will hopefully be able to keep on top of it Hmm.
So todays job is to tackle those kitchen cupboards and maybe some gardening, anything else will be a bonus. Wine

laurenamium · 05/06/2012 09:05

PositiveAttitude · 05/06/2012 09:50

Good morning everyone. A good evening in the naughty corner was had by all!! Grin But I had absolutely nothing to do with the deletion!!

Another lazy day here.....making the most of the Jubilee weekend. Although I might be child free for a short while today so I can either be self indulgent and do something for myself, or I could get stuck into sorting out a "dump" area of the house...mmmmmm.....I'll see.

Waves to everyone. Sorry, on phone, no personals, but have read through. Smile

BitchyInTheCorner · 05/06/2012 09:57

Chocchip88 · 05/06/2012 10:51

Cold? Training? Next test? Are you one of Father Christmas's elves preparing for next Christmas??
Hope it goes well whatever it is!

WhoKnowsWhereHerMajestyGoes · 05/06/2012 14:09

Well, pouring with rain here, our street is supposed to be having a Jubilee picnic later on the grassy bit across the road, but I don't think it's likely to happen, it was a bring your own picnic, so not much organising or waste if it is a wash out. I've made some red, white and blue fairycakes in case but I'm feeling a bit Jubilee'd out now, HRH must be tired out.

Been catching up on washing and tidying today, that's not very interesting is it?

BitchyInTheCorner · 05/06/2012 14:46

More interesting then sorting paperwork Whoknows. I am bored and i have only gone through 3 archive files to clear out. It would seem that I used to keep meticulous financial records until about 4 years ago. Unfortunately the stuff I am culling is more then 7yrs old so no use to anyone. Need to sort out the mountains of on filed paperwork though. That is going to be a tedious job. Boxes of financial paperwork to go into financial year files Good cure for insomnia that.

laurenamium · 05/06/2012 17:16

Hi all! It dawned on me that today is my last day off and I'm back to work tomorrow so I've done a little bit extra cleaning (but not much!) so the house is ready for work tomorrow!

Ta da:
Walked to parents to pick up trike- stayed for a chat for an hour
Went to see horse- she needs X-rays
Scrubbed kitchen floor
cleaned out plates cupboards
Washed down cupboard doors
Washed and dried dishcloths tea towels and cleaning cloths (2 washes)
Walked dog
Cleaned microwave

That doesn't seem like much written down Blush never mind! I'm ready for work tomorrow and have some friends coming round tonight for a catch up so paperwork will have to work, I'm going to try and fit shred in in between DD going to sleep an friends arriving, they are good friends so won't mind letting themselves in and raiding the cupboards for magners making themselves at home if I overrun and I'm in the shower Grin

Hope everyone has had a good Tuesday!

elliepac · 05/06/2012 17:36

Well, I have had the most lovely weekend. On Saturday, dc's and i went to visit an old uni friend of mine, who i hadn't seen for a few years. This involved hotel stay so they were most excitedSmile. Came home on Sunday for a chill out, spot of shopping yesterday and then Jubilee BBQ this afternoon.

Very little flying done and not much planned tbh. Currently watching Annie with dc'sSmile.

Back later to catch up!
