Welcome to the June 2012 Fledgling Flyers thread. Park your mops, buckets and microfibre cloths here!!

A huge "thank you" to Toffee for leading us throughout May!! Hope you have a fabulous holiday in Spain!!

If you're house is a mess and you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and Wine along the way.

We advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be inundated! All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, and as we are all at different stages we will be using one of the following methods:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

More info here, here and here

All welcome!!

Wow - I've only been away a couple of days, and there are pages of messages! I have read them all, but can't remember who said what at all I'm afraid!

Huge sympathies with not being able to get anything done with a toddler around - neither can I! DD is just getting to the point where I can leave her for a few minutes if she's engrossed in something, but usually she just follows me everywhere, saying "what are you doing mummy?" "can I help?", "mummy, play with me" etc all the time!

Ta da
Washing up done
Sink shiny
Sorted through old photos and threw lots away
Cleaned hobs
Online shopping done
Sorted through 2 of the 20 or so carrier bags of stuff that was moved out of the lounge so that it could be decorated a couple of months ago, and have just sat in our bedroom gathering dust (literally) ever since Blush

Erm, not much else, but three full days at work completed. Don't think the house is in quite such a bad state as it often is on Wednesday evenings, but the difference is fractional.

Waves to everyone, and sorry for my lack of ability at keeping up with everything.

BlueEyeshadow · 20/06/2012 21:58

I've been working all day, but did do the ironing and have done a bit of hotspotting and floor sweeping. Work is for a new client and it hasn't been going as well as I'd have liked. Was feeling quite out of sorts as a result, but better since dinner.

Used up all my calories by eating the boys' leftover chips. :( Leftovers are always my downfall! Also forgot to add rice, so used even more calories than it's already nagging me about. Hey ho. My theory is that this week I'll see how many calories I eat normally before trying to reduce them...

Grin at carbtastic tea, Maggie!

Waves to all.

castlelough · 20/06/2012 23:56

Hi everyone!
Yet another apology for not keeping up!
Have checked in and out, but haven't posted in a while. Keeping it short due to my track record of not actually getting my messages posted up on the board Blush .
Very little flying done here, basic morning and evening routines, dinner on the table, to and from work, working at home to get everything finished up before the school holidays ( am a primary school teacher, but here in Ireland we finish up a bit earlier than in England, so we are into the last chaotic week of school - finishing next Wednesday.... )

To do tomorrow:

Basic routines
Schoool work
Send volunteer/work experience letters
Dinner and wash-up
Call to see DMil
Pack for the weekend (my sister is taking me to Westlife in Dublin...speaking of which, where is Flyingwithoutwings these days???? Hope her ttc efforts are going better than mine Sad
Shred
Yoga class
oh dear, there is a distinct lack of flying on my list < adds in 15 minutes of decluttering that will not have time to do, just to fit in with all the rest of the super fledglings Blush

Flaps to all :)

castlelough · 20/06/2012 23:59

By the way, I was wondering about the Control Journal ....

Did you do the pantry list?
Is the shopping list just the pantry list copied plus the extra toiletries etc added on????

ToffeeWhirl · 20/06/2012 23:59

Thanks, Bitchy. Computer is still drying out Sad (am typing this on DS1's computer). I had another go at it earlier and the keys are either not working at all (letter 'm' is buggered) or spell several letters / grammatical marks at once. Annoyingly, it is the only computer DS can log on for his online lessons, so it'll affect his schoolwork tomorrow if it's not working.

Anyway, hopefully it'll be working again tomorrow, otherwise I may be absent for a while (DS's computer is maddening to use because the screen is broken, so there's a large black blot in the middle Confused).

Sorry for all of you who are hungry, but well done for having the will power to stick to your diets.

Night all.

castlelough · 21/06/2012 00:00

Ps: welcome Kiwi :)

BitchyInTheCorner · 21/06/2012 00:01

Toffee if it is just a keyboard and not a lappy then you should be able to swap the keyboards. If it is a lappy then you will have more of a problem :(

castlelough · 21/06/2012 00:02

pps: take the diets like the flying - babysteps - otherwise it gets overwhelming and you give up! well, I do Well done to everyone so far.
Wow I think I've made up for my lack of posts :)

ToffeeWhirl · 21/06/2012 00:20

It's a laptop, Btichy ...

ToffeeWhirl · 21/06/2012 00:20

Bitchy, I mean.

Blush
BitchyInTheCorner · 21/06/2012 00:22

Then I think the word Arses is very much applicable.

BitchyInTheCorner · 21/06/2012 02:45

Right I give up. Been trying to construct a report for a meeting tomo. Report is unfinished, my brain hurts and I hopefully will not have to do this again for a long time.

babystep fail.

Fri to do list:
make ds' lunch
ds to school
empty car
car to garage
finish report
nap
pick car up?
sort paperwork for meeting
meeting
collapse into bed and sleep.

Hope you all have good evenings!!!

BitchyInTheCorner · 21/06/2012 02:47

Offs. overtired, fried brain fail Blush

Hope you all have good days.

sanguinechompa · 21/06/2012 06:42

Good morning. Apologies for not getting back on here last night. Unexpected visitor. Posting links now and back later to catch up! Hope everyone has a good day!!

Today's baby-step, number twenty-one, for Thurs 21st is here and is eminently ignorable. Do what you have been doing already and check out AskFlyLady.

We are still in zone 4 this week - the master bedroom here. Try and declutter for 15 mins a day in the current zone.

If your kitchen is already decluttered, you can progress to here

Today's mission is cleaning bedside tables

The habit for June is drinking more water

The daily focus for Thursday is errand day

If I've missed anything, it will be in today's flight plan

Kid's challenge has finally been updated!

Keep on going everyone - 15 mins by 15 mins!!

Morning all!

Just a dump before mindees arrive!

School run
Walk dog
Playgroup this afternoon
Shred
Clean out fridge (blueberry juice leak)
Sort out my wardrobe
Today's mission
Clean bathroom

That'll do! BBL!

swanthingafteranother · 21/06/2012 08:25

I didn't eat anything yesterday after supper at 6pm...No food till breakfast time, I'm proud of myself. It was hard though. I'd forgotten how much food fills the evening Shock I need a hobby!
And this morning, scales continue to show steady reduction.

oh better dash

swanthingafteranother · 21/06/2012 08:30

Drinking water really helped too. I must have had 8 glasses of water yesterday, which I don't usually have...

Dog visiting today again, but various things to do as well outside the home, so he will have be content with a walk.

Dcs are taking their favourite things in today as part of PHSCE programme (sp) Dd is very worried that everyone will laugh at her blanket. But it is her favourite thing so she is torn. Ds1 has chosen something he has had for only a year Shock Fickle child!

CarpeJugulum · 21/06/2012 09:15

Morning

Was planning to walk with DS to toddlers, but it's started spitting with rain, and the forecast is for it to continue so car it will be. Also had my monthly visit start last night so really not in the mood for anything other than coffee and couching today. Toddlers could be interesting as my level of patience is at about zero.

Today will be a CBA day. Official.

swanthingafteranother · 21/06/2012 09:36

Carpe sometimes just to admit it is a CBA day is permission to relax. I used to love Toddlers, all my troubles evaporated when I was in someone else's space drinking someone else's tea and a Biscuit Hope you feel better soon, and have loads of [biscuits] and other healthgiving substances Smile

Dog has covered the floor with mud from our garden, and is enjoying his squeaky toy! His owner didn't take him for a walk this morning (the spitting rain) so he is looking at me expectantly [aargh!] and racing round the table. I had better go and get some walking shoes on.

swanthingafteranother · 21/06/2012 09:38

Lauren does your springer jump up at you when excited? Or have you trained him out of that? I am really noticing the jumping this morning especially with the muddy paws...Hmm Not so bad usually.

laurenamium · 21/06/2012 10:12

Yes swan he's a swine for it Sad only when he is very excited though so mainly when I am just coming in from being out. He is trained to sit for his lead on for walks so I don't really get muddy paw problems! I'm glad I didn't get round to washing the kitchen floor though. Paw prints everywhere from the wet!

List update;

School run done
Declutter wardrobe done --we won't mention the drawers*
Walk dog- when the rain dies down as its really heavy
Clean bathroom- next
Shred
Playgroup this afternoon
Clean out fridge
Today's mission

feetheart · 21/06/2012 10:27

List dump from me too today:

  • Little bit of work though virtual something or other has died causing much swearing from DH and the possibility of me not being able to do said work - oh dear :)
  • School Assoc stuff re meeting, Yr6 leavers, car boot sale, etc
  • S&S
  • Washing hung up (too wet to put it out)
  • Kitchen floor which is HORRIBLE
  • Menu plan and shopping list
  • Make biscuits for school office staff - keeps them sweet and willing to help with School Assoc stuff :)
  • Make cake if time as Thank you for friend for looking after cats whilst we were away
  • Make 'Dalmation' pasta sauce for dinner - everything in fridge including mushrooms cooked up then whizzed for DC so they don't see the veg. Whizzed up mushrooms look like little black spots :)
  • DS swimming
  • Ironing in front of football

That's more than enough. Best get on........

BitchyInTheCorner · 21/06/2012 11:05

Ds is like that swan. obsessed or not bothered. No in the middle, no sense of history. Some long standing things, other things forgotten and quickly replaced.

Dalmation sauce made me smile feetheart hope you can get computer fixed.

Research for report is done, but shattered after such a late night so going to sleep and will construct report after school run but before meeting (i have 2hours which should be enough and as long as brain is clear will be able to wing it)

feetheart · 21/06/2012 12:25

Bitchy - DH is an IT person so computer will be fixed. Its only the work bit so no problems with MN :)
Hope you get some sleep.

Slight alteration to my plans as DH was fed-up and not feeling motivated (is self-employed and it's hard going sometimes) so I offered lunch out as an incentive - he disappeared back to his office in the garden and hasn't been seen since 11am :)
It has also made me get on with things so we will both have earned our lunch.

ToffeeWhirl · 21/06/2012 12:47

Keyboard not working on my computer at all now Sad. The computer is brand new too. DH is bringing me in a temporary keyboard from work to plug into it and we're hoping the keyboard will sort itself, otherwise we will need to take it to someone to mend (assuming it can be sorted ).

Luckily, we have a Notepad computer, so DS1 has been able to do his online schoolwork on that instead.

Swan and other doggy Fledglings - Wiccaways, the Collie rescue, rang me this morning (I'd left a message a few days back). Had a very detailed chat with one of the owners who disagreed with Dogs' Trust saying we could get a Collie puppy and said we should get an older dog so that we knew what character it was. Of course, DS1 has set his heart on a black and white Border Collie puppy and, in truth, our perfect match may be a different colour and age. I have explained this to DS and he's mulling it over, but I suspect his excitement over the prospect of getting a Collie will overcome any reservations he may have. I have applied for a home check and am going to get a trellis put up on our garden wall, then we are all set to wait for an ideal dog to arrive. Actually, the owner said he had a five-year old that would be a good match for us at the moment. We will have to wait and see what happens...

Had to hover near DS1 to keep him focused on his online schoolwork this morning. As a result, I had to do a lot of work in the kitchen, which means I now have a very tidy, clean kitchen Smile.

DS1 needs the computer back in a minute, so will have to go. Hope you all have a good day.
