sanguinechompa · 31/05/2012 08:27

Welcome to the June 2012 Fledgling Flyers thread. Park your mops, buckets and microfibre cloths here!!

A huge "thank you" to Toffee for leading us throughout May!! Hope you have a fabulous holiday in Spain!!

If you're house is a mess and you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and Wine along the way.

We advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be inundated! All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, and as we are all at different stages we will be using one of the following methods:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

More info here, here and here

All welcome!!

Hotspots for me:

Kitchen worksurface just inside the door - handy to "drop" things onto.
Dining room table - nice and flat, and only room now behind a gate so DS can't get into it.
Bedroom chest of drawers - should be just for toiletries, but again, DS can't reach so also now has remotes/change/other crap.
Hall table - not so much now as DS can reach, but post builds up there.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 20/06/2012 09:48

OK, I have just made a private group on MFP and invited all my Fledgling Friends, let's see how it goes.

Ta-da!
Meter readings - phoned British Gas and told them where to stuff it as I go off to my new provider who hopefully won't put the direct debit up by £30 a month when we've been in credit all winter.
Washing on line

sanguinechompa · 20/06/2012 10:50

Morning all! Crikey you lot, you don't half natter (pot calling kettle black emoticon) I can't keep up! Hope you are all OK though.

I have been trying to focus on 'work' work this morning and can't hear myself think because the boarding school behind us is having their school fete with all speakers blaring. It's so loud the bunnies have wandered back inside. Even the resident squirrel is wearing ear-plugs.

Also, have problem with cold water which smells of chemicals following visit of water purification man on Monday Confused. Even washed clothes smell of it. (We've had to drink mineral water since Mon.) This happened last time tank was serviced. Supposedly respectable company but must be a scam. Of course will have to call them back at vast expense to sort it out [anger]

Apart from above, getting somewhat panicked by the fact that the end of school for the year is looming in one and a half weeks!!! Shock Then dd is off on holiday for nearly nine weeks and we haven't planned anything. Haven't bought teachers' presents. Haven't planned trips or activities or family visits. Haven't got the house to a state of "holiday readiness". Haven't planned dd's party. Normally have most of this sussed by now but it has been a strange year. Oh well ...[rabbit in headlight emoticon]... will have to wing it.

Whoknows sorry - only just saw your message - thank you very much for setting up private group on MFP. Will get on there as soon as I can today!
Well done for surviving 'manic Tuesday'.

Hey Scruffy I just think it is really, really hard Flying with little ones so don't be too down on yourself and get your dh to pitch in. Particularly difficult if you are virtually confined to one room with them. Could you perhaps delegate child-supervision to your dh or a friend or relative (with whom you swap) one morning a week to do a basic 'home bleugh' maybe? Hot spots for me are: basket on kitchen surface that holds all the things that don't belong anywhere else, dining room table (papers usually), playroom sofa (marbles, odd socks, magazines). Apart from that, home office and main boudoir are two giant hots spots atm!

Carpe and Lauren good luck with garage cleaning and wardrobe-sorting

Likelucklove hope you can catch up on some sleep tonight

Crikey Bitchy 20 miles!!! Shock [Hands over relaxing bath salts]

Swan hope you can sort out IT glitches. And on the subject of calling animals in from the garden; it's a bit hit and miss (particularly if they are in my marjoram patch [harrumph] but have virtually trained bunnies to come in by themselves now. Compared with the diving rugby tackles in to shrubs that dh had to execute of an evening to catch the guinea pigs, this is incredibly easy! No, my ma was not really a sewer but I have inherited her sewing/button box which has brought back lovely memories; hadn't seen it in years - drawer content in comforting tangle Smile

Well done for keeping strong Linzer!! I'm afraid there was one glass left in the bottle from the weekend and that's what did me in Blush

Big wing flaps to Toffee Blue and everyone else I've missed. Had better get on doing my list from yesterday.

Keep going everyone!!

Ta-da!

DW emptied and refilled
Floor swept and wiped
Shoes cleaned
Bathroom cleaned
Hospital phoned re surgery dates
More washing in machine
Tea drunk

foad · 20/06/2012 11:04

Morning all! Caught up with the thread last night - my what a busy lot you are!

Bitchy I take Co-Enzyme Q10 for cramp - I don't get it when I do but do when I don't (if that makes sense). The amount of Gin and Tonic I had to have to make it go away made me fall over (mind you I couldn't feel a thing by then...Grin)

Scruffy I sympathize too and reiterate it gets a bit better when they are all at school, although the evenings become really complicated.

Have checked out MFP and decided I need a smartphone. Any recommendations?

Body clutter Need to lose about 3 stone. Currently weigh 14st (but i am fairly tall, honest, and have mahoosive boobs). OK, am fat git Blush.

Todays list:
Phone bakers for rolls for school fair bbq
washing
put away three loads of washing cluttering up sitting roomHmm
bedroom Confused 15min x 3
gardening x 15min
sort supper
usual housey stuff

STEP AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER - see you later! Huge wing flaps to all (padlocks naughty corner and hides key)

swanthingafteranother · 20/06/2012 11:42

SC what intelligent bunnies! That, or they know there are predators out there and where safety lies come nightfall....Presumably guinea pigs hailing from South America might be confused as to who the predators are...
Someone once said to me, plan one trip in the hols and everything falls into place...and seems pleasantly relaxed, whereas too many calendar dates defeats the charm of holiday mooching Smile

done
Ds1 weightloss initiative!
up early to institute new regime of filling and healthy breakfast for ds1 (part of master plan to stop him snacking at school until lunch -they offer all sorts like bacon rolls, pizza slices, fruit juice, pitta with humus, and he is just eating all of it. We've put a limit on his lunch card till lunch, and hope a good breakfast will solve that problem. Dinner ladies are able to tell us exactly what he eats in school and even they said he ate twice the no of snacks of normal child, and then a big lunch too.
Dh very resistant to new breakfast regime. He had it all down to fine art, wake ds 7am, offer 2 slices of toast and jam, get him showered and dressed and wave him off to bus by 7.30. So me suddenly waltzing in and cooking boiled eggs, fruit, bacon rolls and pancakes [not all at once I hasten to add, this was yesterday as well) has thrown him into a panic...ds left later than usual, and the other children got up earlier Confused oh well it will all come together when we are used to it...

I need to get up earlier to do if I'm going to make breakfast Grin Have also bought some porridge oats to replace unhealthy cereal (ds doesn't like cereal anyway)

Me: healthy breakfast of bread and ham (no butter) black coffee
snack at 11am of Miso soup
Dog is here to keep me company

s & s two loos
washing sorted upstairs
some shopping of sundries from health food shop, soap etc
some dog toys and pet food bought
walk
3 kids to school
made two eye appts for me and ds1

BODY CLUTTER
I am starving! But the knowledge that I am trying to lose weight is helping me to stay firm till 12.30 lunch. Before this week I would have just bought myself a chocolate bar or flapjack whilst shopping, stopped to have cappucinos, bread and butter and marmalade for breakfast.

HOUSE CLUTTER
am going to take advantage of dog and deal with the lawn edging, and garden rubbish today, and the bindweed.

laurenamium · 20/06/2012 12:14

foad I'm exactly the same as you weight wise at the minute! F size boobs and 5"8 but 14 stone and want to be 10.5- 11 stone again, I'm in size 12-14 clothes currently and want to be a firm 10 again!

CarpeJugulum · 20/06/2012 13:15

Stood on the Wii and it informed me I'd gained the 3lb it told me I had lost yesterday. And asked me if I knew why? Erm, yes, you're crap? It's not coz I've eaten too much you stupid machine. Grrrrr Angry

And then DS decided to wake up after only 45 mins.

So Wii has been abandoned in favour of hopefully cutting the grass and tidying the garage some more.

kiwi5 · 20/06/2012 13:21

oohhh you lot are lovely and friendly.

ta da
up and dressed
singing with dd
coffee with friend
wedding card bought
picked up fish (from the the fish man!)
made elderflower cordial
kitchen floor mopped
prepared tea
joined the MFP thing - how do i find you lot on there?

hot spots identified - kitchen table and corner of end unit.

right, quick zoom around with a duster while the girl sleeps!

swanthingafteranother · 20/06/2012 14:25

hello Kiwi [swoons at thought of elderflower cordial...where are the hedgerows when you need them?]

Meanwhile,
I have
thrown entire contents of cupboard under stairs into the hall so gasmeter could be read [why do they always turn up when the cupboard is at its worst?]

taken dog for long walk, trying out my new forceful training skills (thank you SC) Dog has now learned to sit whilst I lock the car, before bolting down the road to the park

returned to scene of absolute chaos - aforesaid cupboard contents all over hall, kittens were in kitchen because I hadn't shut door, cue major alarum when they saw dog was after them....dog barking and trying to prise kittens from under kitchen units...Blush This has slightly frayed my nerves...
Dog now asleep in front of door, kittens back in safe place [phew]

I have a way to go with this dog training lark, I can tell you. In need of chocolate.

Might try some soothing ironing.

BitchyInTheCorner · 20/06/2012 14:51

Afternoon.

So today has gone
wake up
throw clothes on
take child to school
crawl back into bed
wake up
trip into town to pick up new swimming goggles (lift from lovely mum)

just settling with a coffee. Migraine is finally starting to lift but the stronger dose of meds has completely flattened me and tbh I just want to crawl into bed.

plan for later is:
throw food at ds
deal with his mood about having to walk up to swimming (30mins for him.)
swimming lesson
ds to walk home (expecting more complaints)
feed ds tea
crawl into bed.

legs are sore today but in that kinda ooo i have used muscles way rather in that oi bitch your muscles hate your guts way. iyswim. Grin actually i am dreading the walk up to the pool as the walk to school 5mins nearly killed me this morning

swanthingafteranother · 20/06/2012 15:15

ironing all done Smile dog seems very familiar with ironing, and settled down calmly when I started Shock.

Also made cheese sauce for moussaka
and started some orange cup cakes, but run out of eggs..

ToffeeWhirl · 20/06/2012 16:28

Ee,k,
ds1 s[pi.lt water on y ,keyboard !

What do i do? Can't ty[pe!

BitchyInTheCorner · 20/06/2012 16:32

Put keyboard on a towel keys down and leave unplugged. It should take a couple of hours and then be fine. In theory. Then ban drinks near computer?

CarpeJugulum · 20/06/2012 17:16

What Bitchy said!

Anyhoo, went out for a playdate and had a cupcake, but then didn't want lunch, though I did have an apple. Then this afternoon I was in the garden and have done a load of sweaty cleaning for two hours in the garage on top of an hour of grass cutting, so MFP is saying that I have 1500 available - which is more than I started with; and it's a salad for dinner, so I have no clue what my calories are going to look like! Shock

swanthingafteranother · 20/06/2012 17:20

I'm starving!! but resisting...if anyone else out there is starving and resisting till supper time...

done
veg moussaka in oven
dog departed Toffee my ds1 hates the dog, he is phobic about animals in general - going back to being chased by a dog,and being pecked by a pigeon
ds1 in tears after school, suffocating bus, fooled around in class got told off etc, listened to
ds2 on Xbox - given up
dd has done an errand for me, payment unfortunately was to buy herself a small Aero bar

Beavers helping tonight, so I'd better get a move on with various things, have to get ds1 to park now, with ds2. Teenage babysitter who comes between 5.30 and 7 (which is when dh comes home) so I can get to Beavers without dh coming home early, is ill. It is actually a relief, now I don't have to tidy the house Hmm

Toffee - what a relief Bitchy has the answer, I will remember that when I spill coffee on mine.

Engelsmeisje · 20/06/2012 19:58

I'm starving as well swan ! Gave in this afternoon and had a coffee and cake. My body is in shock from me all of a sudden not being a greedy pig (or should I say, not indulging the greedy pig inside me) and I 've been SO HUNGRY today between meals! Am done for the day now but DH (who is also hungry) still has 700 calories left, the bastard, so he's having some crackers.

It's not fair!
Flying wise have done okay today...

Ta da
morning routine
trip into town to pick up phone card/birthday presents/nappies/leaving cards
trip to babypark to get shiny new maclaren and next size car seat
delicious dinner (all eaten, not a grain of rice left!)
15 minute tidy up of the lounge and kitchen
yesterday's washing out of tumble drier, folded and waiting to go upstairs
shopping away
bought drinks and snacks for last project day with students tomorrow
evening routine

sorry for me post. will do much better once school is over in 2 weeks and can MN for 7 weeks straight

laurenamium · 20/06/2012 20:11

Big waves to everyone!

I am aching all over! Too much exercise today! Off for a shower and to get ready for tomorrow before bed!

Be back tomorrow!

BitchyInTheCorner · 20/06/2012 20:46

Am just about to head out for a walk. Not going to go for 4hrs tonight though. Max of 2 hrs will do.

Flying? what is that? remind me. Blush

likelucklove · 20/06/2012 20:56

Thanks sc I fell asleep with DD for three hours today though Blush I'm sure you'll get organized in time for the holidays and if you don't - they'll never know ;)

foad I'd definitely recommend an IPhone, their so easy to use!

Carpe Don't be disheartened by the silly Wii! It's a nightmare it weighs you every time, but it could be water weight!

swanthing Sounds like a stressful morning :( I did laugh a bit though sorry at the image!

Well done lauren and bitchy! This might be corny but I firmly believe sweat is fat crying, and it doesn't count until your muscles hurt!

To Do
Morning routine
Hoover
Sort out clothes pile in wardrobe
Put away washing
Do a hand wash
Do some things to make me beautiful :) Well, as much as I can!
Dig around in clothes for an outfit for Saturday night
Before bed routine

Love a nice, tidy house :) Did it all before DP got home too, so no moaning from him.

Body clutter
I haven't done much exercise today but lots of cleaning! And managed to depress myself by trying on pre-DD clothes and I couldn't fit into them at all :( I have about 7 stone to lose but want it to happen now! Grin

Hope you all have a nice evening

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 20/06/2012 21:11

Yay, I did everything on my list plus took the DCs to Sainsburys after Rainbows, good day. And I am stuffed full of nice food with a few calories to spare. Need to go and double check MFP and make sure I didn't log it wrongly. To top it all I won £50 on the premium bonds.

However I'm tired out now, luckily I have a nice new laptop to sit in bed with and chat to you lot. Grrr, DS has just walked in saying there's a strange buzzing sound in his room.

CarpeJugulum · 20/06/2012 21:11

Oh I'm not worried about the Wii weight - I'm irritated because it told me yesterday that I'd lost 3lbs, and then told me today I'd gained 3lbs and it was quite grumpy at me that I wouldn't pick any of the standard options for the weight gain - overeating etc.

Asked me three times if I was sure I didn't know the reason for the weight gain! Gah!

MaggieMcVitie · 20/06/2012 21:46

Have spent the day on the train so no flying here! DH is in charge at home for 2 days - according to DS2 they have had sausages, bread and pasta for tea followed by tinned rice pudding! Hmm He has also managed the Beaver run, homework and DS2's cannula change so at least DH is doing a bit of flying for me Grin

Have managed to get back on the MFP wagon today, although can't see how to join the Fledglings group whoknows. I had an email bit no notification on MFP?

Tomorrow I'm going for a run Shock and am having my hair all chopped off!! It's thick and shoulder length and I'm fed up with it!

PositiveAttitude · 20/06/2012 21:53

Weeeeheeeeee!! Festival weekend is here again!! Last one for a few years, so want to make the most of it. Fridge is full to overflowing for the hoardes. Looks like its going to be a muddy one yet again

Frustratingly getting nothing very little done here as far as the decluttering and packing up goes. Day off tomorrow, so maybe I will have a go then.

Sorry for lack of personals, to be honest, my arms are feeling like lead weights after our final round of dart practice injections today. So computer is now going off before my arms fall off!
