Welcome to the June 2012 Fledgling Flyers thread. Park your mops, buckets and microfibre cloths here!!

A huge "thank you" to Toffee for leading us throughout May!! Hope you have a fabulous holiday in Spain!!

If you're house is a mess and you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and Wine along the way.

We advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be inundated! All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, and as we are all at different stages we will be using one of the following methods:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

More info here, here and here

All welcome!!

SC so agree about pile of junk on doorstep being amazingly satisfying Grin
Now, the old carpet has been on our doorstep for too long, I am determined to cut it up today and put it into bin bags, ditto garden rubbish.

re: Dieting. My plan is this. eat normal lunch, and normal snack at 4pm and normal supper, but no snacks in between. Also breakfast I think was setting up a bit of a sugar high sugar low, so I am having atm

2 slices of seedy bread with no butter
6 dried apricots
and cup of black coffee (weak)

lunch will be at 12pm!

My downfall has been cornflakes at bedtime, so I think no eating after supper finished is a real pyschological barrier for me.

Alcohol I drink hardly any, so that should make things a bit easier.

Btw this diet method worked before, just cutting out the grazing was the key - and I got down to 71 kilos two years ago, before all the thryoid stuff kicked in.

swanthingafteranother · 18/06/2012 09:08

SC thanks for all your wise words on depression, I so agree it is your soul flagging up external issues, as well as a mere chemical imbalance. A bit of both perhaps.

Anyway I am very pleased with myself this morning, I drove ds to school (driving ishoos) and that was fine, no trouble, and

done
tidied bedroom last night, and put all clothes away
changed sheets
reminded ds to take both shoulder rest and his music which he would otherwise have forgotten, despite taking violin Confused

likelucklove · 18/06/2012 09:08

Morning! Just realized I forgot to put how much I lost this week - 1.9 lbs.

Lots to do with a weekend of not doing much! But need to exercise as I've cut down my calories, and start preparations for my first night on the town in a year :O This may take a while!

To Do
Morning routine
Weekly home blessing
Spend 15 mins getting rid of non-belonging stuff in bedroom
Go out for a nice walk
Text DF
Sort out this month's money situation
Email uni for a deferring letter for bank
Make a photobook
Do a workout DVD?
Dip dye hair and cut it
Do DIY facial
Catch up with thread and sign up with MFP thread
Before bed routine

Will catch up later, have a fab day all!

swanthingafteranother · 18/06/2012 09:49

oh dear, have done nothing,
will set myself task of cleaning dd's room and organising her clothes - she put in a special request for this, it must have got pretty bad Shock

cleaning lady will be here in 10 mins; I've made a pile of ironing for her, but dreading having to talk to her and give her jobs to do and tell her not to go into certain rooms...so silly. [pulls self together]

also must cut up that blooming carpet!!! Front garden looks derelict

ToffeeWhirl · 18/06/2012 09:54

Woken up far too early by first DS1 and then, once we'd got him back to bed, by DS2 , but it did at least mean that I got loads done before school this morning.

Ta da list:

Washing on and finished (was going to hang outside, but it's clouding over now)
Yesterday's washing folded and put away
D/W unloaded and reloaded
Rubbish put out
Recycling put away in bin
B/fasts done
Packed lunch done
DS2 to school early Shock
Swished and swiped in bathroom

Must go and nag remind DS1 that he has homework to do this morning, before his first online lesson. Thanks SC and Swan for your advice on Ds's adoration of all things Collie. I won't be rushing into anything.

To do :

Help DS1 with homework (Maths and Science - not exactly my strongest subjects)
Catch up with ironing
Ocado online order
Hang washing out or (more likely from the look of that sky) tumbledry
DS1 and me - tackle DS1's untidy bedroom and his washing
Quick run?
Lunch
DS1's online lessons
Bedroom mission
School run
Walk the dog
Dinner
Evening routine

ToffeeWhirl · 18/06/2012 09:57

Swan - we never, ever let our cleaning lady into our bedroom. It would be too, too horrrifying. I'm sure they are used to it. As for jobs to do - I basically ask my cleaning lady to do the weekly home bleugh, although last week she also cleaned out my fridge, which was fabulous Smile.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 18/06/2012 12:30

Right, I've allowed myself 5 mins MNing before I do home blessing (very short version), then OU for an hour then some Wii. Just bought the Abba Dance game, that is about as strenuous as I can manage.

SC - MFP tells me you haven't logged in for 3 days! You've been so busy decluttering and encouraging us on here that you are completely forgiven though.

Swan - I agree with everything SC so wisely said about depression, it can act as a warning that you need to make some changes, as can other illnesses. Well done on driving this morning, I know you find it hard.

5 mins is nearly up, kettles just boiled, back later.

CarpeJugulum · 18/06/2012 12:31

Dug the wii fit out. Last used 1744 days ago Blush

Still, it tells me I'm the same as my scales and that I'm no longer obese, just borderline obese/overweight! So yay?! Hmm

Crap morning as DH's car battery was flat, so there was major trauma as he stressed. Thank god for the AA!

Shopping this afternoon - healthy snacks ahoy!

swanthingafteranother · 18/06/2012 13:21

So, kitchen is lovely and tidy now thanks to cleaning lady, and I've managed to put away all her ironing, and
start sorting dd's room - still in the middle of that [hey ho] which is quite satisfying really if you know the kitchen isn't hanging over you too..Wink

done
school dinner adjustments
no snacking [yay!]
and a very healthy lunch of one tomato, 2 slices of brown bread (no butter) spoonful of tuna in oil, and some mini cream cheese stuffed peppers (also in oil) and some lettuce (undressed)

problem is I still feel hungry...however I think it takes a while for food to hit the spot, well that's what I'm telling myself...

kitten/teenage cat is nestled on my lap for a few minutes - now in teen fashion she has pranced off in search of wide blue yonder, she is in love with the garden and very long grass Blush

Carpe yes thank heaven for AA. On numerous occasions with my car Hmm Hope dh is on the road again alright.

Whoknows enjoy OU work. We have had enough ABBA this weekend; it is now joining Queen on the banned playlist.

Ahh cat is back, sorry darling I am off now! BBL

ToffeeWhirl · 18/06/2012 13:41

Swan - well done on your healthy lunch. DH always tells me it takes 20 minutes for your body to register that it's had enough to eat. I have no idea if he's right or not, but he seems very sure of it.

Glad you are enjoying a lovely tidy kitchen and a pile of finished ironing Smile.

Carpe - sorry you have had a crap morning Sad.

WhoKnows - only 5 mins on MN Shock? I'm very impressed at your self discipline.

Updated list:

Help DS1 with homework (Maths and Science) done
Catch up with ironing all finished and put away
Ocado online order doing next
Hang washing out or (more likely from the look of that sky) tumbledry done
DS1 and me - tackle DS1's untidy bedroom and his washing
Quick run? done, but had to walk due to painful ankles and calves Confused
Lunch done
DS1's online lessons doing
Bedroom mission
School run
Walk the dog
Dinner
Evening routine

Have also been subject to a one-boy campaign from DS1 to convince me to get him a Border Collie. He says he will commit to taking the dog to training and agility classes (which would be really good for him). Juries still out...

BitchyInTheCorner · 18/06/2012 14:18

Ta da
sleep

floored by the bastard headache again. Really not feeling so great. But need to at least speak to the garage about car before collecting ds from school so must move.

Haven't stood on scales though. Perhaps I should try to find them later.

You are all being productive. which is nice to see.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 18/06/2012 14:32

Carpe - you made me laugh with your Wii Fit. Mine did the same to me the other week. I do wish you could circumvent all the patronising messages. DD (6) got on it the other day but was using my character and it was going ballistic thinking I'd lost 8 stone in a fortnight.

BitchyInTheCorner · 18/06/2012 14:45
Grin I can just picture horrid computer voice screaming insult about it being unhealthy and your dd stood there looking bewildered. Was dd ok? Grin

decided ds came come with to garage and I am going to eat a baked potato for lunch before school run in 15mins. the miracles of microwaves Currently considering what is urgent to be done today.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 18/06/2012 15:01

She just stood there and kept pressing A till it went away (she knows her way around a Wii). It wasn't so much ballistic as disbelieving really.

BitchyInTheCorner · 18/06/2012 15:07

Grin ds always laugh at me when i stand on scales because I stand and get off several times so I can take an average of at least 3 readings Blush Not that I don't believe the scales or anything Grin

swanthingafteranother · 18/06/2012 15:29

Toffee there is a collie rescue called Wiccaweys, with puppies, and they homecheck, so if they thought you weren't up for it, they would probably tell you; at least it would reassure you that you were suitable or not.

I've nearly got to the bottom of her room, and discovered that a cat has peed on the dressing up clothes!!!Shock Not one of my kittens, it must be our slightly peeved resident cat.

Honu · 18/06/2012 18:17

Body clutter: I eventually found the scales, stashed in a crate on their side, and they didn't appear to work properly any more - the zero was in the wrong place. So I told DH I was going to throw them out but to see if he could sort them just in case, and put them and a toolbox containing screwdrivers on his lap as I dashed past. Of course, 2 mins later he announced they were working; he had found the reset wheel that I had missed in my rush Blush. So I have now weighed myself and will report for weigh-in next Sunday. I like a lot of SC's ideas esp no snacking, glass of water and pedometer. I know I do about 8,000 steps a day and the target of 10,000 makes me do extra. The only problem I have is pedometers don't seem to work unless attached to my waistband and the damn things fall off. There must be half a dozen scattered in the fields around here.

Honu · 18/06/2012 18:44

Ah yes - serious maths pedant alert. This is to keep all you home edders awake!
When I was at school 3 cubic metres was written 3 cu m. Then some bright mathematician decided that this was better written as 3 m3(that second 3 is a superscript but I'm not sure how to do that so it will work across international code pages). However, SC said they were putting out 3 metres cubed of stuff out for the commune to take away. 3 metres cubed is 3m x 3m x 3m which = 27 cubic metres! If they take away that much then I'm coming to live wherever you are SC! If, as I suspect, it was 3 cubic metres, then it just shows what a stupid system it is.
Sorry about this post but I just couldn't let it ride.

BitchyInTheCorner · 18/06/2012 19:12

at maths pendant

The sissor elf ha been at work again. Can't find a single pair of sissors Angry.

Engelsmeisje · 18/06/2012 19:14

Body Clutter: have just put newly charged batteries in the Wii and am actually 1.1kg lighter than I was 2 weeks ago! Down to 65.9kg. Would like to get under 65 (the wishful thinker in me is thinking my pre-pregnancy 62 would be nice) but really just want to feel healthier, less full of junk and more toned (plus look good in my bridesmaid dress in October Grin )

Have had a rest day today after shredding or running for the last 3, but MFP is really making me want to do more exercise so I can finish the day under (or eat some more Grin ) so went for a short walk in the beautiful sunshine with DS after dinner.

Plus am loving that by keeping with my evening routine, I can count doing the washing up as light cleaning and earn some mroe calories Smile

I know I said that the calorie allowance seems small but if I don't snack during the day or eat in the evening (or have constant cappuccinos) then I'm normally about right if I do at least a bit of movement during the day. But not snacking is hard. I was STARVING at break at school today (so ate half my lunch) and when I got home as well.

have a huge list for tomorrow...lots of errands to do.

whoknows a few months ago I didn't step on the Wii in time, but it still "detected" that I was there so thought that I had lost my entire body weight in just 2 weeks Grin

swan your lunch sounds lovely

carpe DH's car wouldn't start this morning either Shock coincidence?! He's decided to go and buy a new battery tomorrow as whenever his car's not used for more than a few days it just dies and he has to jump start it.

Off for some electronic free time. Smile

swanthingafteranother · 18/06/2012 21:15

honu brain whirring pathetically. No, I don't get it, why shouldn't it be 27 cubic metres, if you think 3 dimensionally surely that is the total junk "space" allowed. Like a room which is 3 m x 10m wide x 10 m high is 300 cubic metres of headroom surely?

done
a day of heroic resistance of all snacks, and temptations
very nice supper of keema curry
but I still feel hungry..so I am having a cup of tea before I pick up ds from Scouts

ds2 has found new way to outwit me with computer, he was hiding in the tent with it...there was me thinking he was playing in the garden SmileHmm

laurenamium · 18/06/2012 21:19

Body clutter wise I've been very good today Smile good weather coupled with the novelty of being able to walk without a hobble has meant I've walked 4 miles and done shred too Smile

AND I managed to do a complete home bleugh!

Ta da:
Home bleugh
Walked dog twice
Waited in for tesco delivery
Went to fruit and veg shop
Went to post office
Tidied play room
Washed down windows and doors
Cooked toad in the hole, banana loaf and cheese sauce for tomorrow
Cleaned kitchen tops and washed up/ shined sink
Swept kitchen floor
Put DD laundry away and sorted her wardrobe- ordered more vacuum bags for storage
Shred

Not bad really Smile Dougal is benefitting from the extra walk too. He's sleepy for a change!

Grin at your junk causing a commotion sc!

bitchy I hope your headache is better soon!

Grin at your DD on the wii whoknows! I left mine at my mums when I moved out as I have an Xbox and kinect thing that I never play with Blush

Manicure then shower for me Grin

BitchyInTheCorner · 18/06/2012 21:50

Ta da:
sleep
towel wash x2
clothes wash x2
folding
ironing
cut new pattern piece templates
cut pieces for urgent projects
Pin pieces ready for sewing tomo
remove stuff from ds' room that shouldn't be there
put out the rubbish
take out the recycling
book car into garage to get fixed
Mission

break in new boots (30mins worth)

I think that is about all for today and I am soon for bed. Will go catch up with the thread now.

likelucklove · 18/06/2012 22:16

sc You do realise people will be queuing outside your house on these days now? Will be fun Grin

Loving the wii fit stories Engels, Whoknows and carpe! I'm sure if I jumped on mine the people would come out of the screen and slap me Blush Hope you had a better day too!

Enjoy your pamper lauren

Honu my mind boggles at that maths!

Hope your feeling better Bitchy
