Welcome to the June 2012 Fledgling Flyers thread. Park your mops, buckets and microfibre cloths here!!

A huge "thank you" to Toffee for leading us throughout May!! Hope you have a fabulous holiday in Spain!!

If you're house is a mess and you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and Wine along the way.

We advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be inundated! All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, and as we are all at different stages we will be using one of the following methods:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

More info here, here and here

All welcome!!

Hi all!

body clutter weigh in I've lost 2 pounds this week, 20,2 in total. Which I'm really shocked at because I've had a TERRIBLE week with no exercise and lots of junk food Blush

Will be doing a whole house crisis clean today...need to get it back to habitable ready for work tomorrow

Will catch up later or tomorrow!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 17/06/2012 09:19

BodyClutter Weigh In - I've lost 2lb too, which is quite surprising, given that I have still been snacking far too much. It has got me back in the right frame of mind though, it's so easy to slip back into the old bad habits (too much butter and cheese in my case).

Why don't we start a little cut and paste list, so we can see at a glance who has lost what and spur ourselves on (I'm going to need all the spurring on I can get, I always fall by the wayside after about half a stone).

So far:

Lauren 2lb
Whoknows 2lb

Flying wise - I just can't keep up. The DCs got all their dressing up clothes out yesterday evening, they are still out. By 6pm I was aching so much down below I had to confine myself to bed (thank goodness we got the extra Sky box upstairs last year). Can't see this is going to be any easier in the foreseeable Sad.

swanthingafteranother · 17/06/2012 10:41

this morning is going alright so far!

done
avoided flashpoint with dh
long talk with friend on the phone about relative merits of psychologists versus pyschiatrists Wink and mental health Grin
a slightly bucolic morning with kittens, campers and long grass
did a bit of tidying bit by bit rather than getting bogged down with overall horror

Dh has taken the children to church, and I now see he put up some cane trellis yesterday, so brownie points to him. I am meant to be TIDYING UP NOW.

swanthingafteranother · 17/06/2012 10:45

Whoknows I am sure you weren't like the woman on Friday, and children dithering drives me potty! Dh has just been almost at breaking point trying to get everyone out of the house for church with raincoats that don't smell of cat, and a ball that hasn't been punctured - he hates being late, even for church which he "disapproves" of.

Sounds like your children had an absolutely lovely Sat yesterday, and dressing up clothes prove it.

CarpeJugulum · 17/06/2012 10:50

Lauren 2lb
Whoknows 2lb
Carpe 1.8lb Grin

I'm quite chuffed! Didn't think I'd lose anything - or get weighed today, but sneaked the scales out when DH was showering!

Feeling a bit ick today - so not much planned!

sanguinechompa · 17/06/2012 13:35

Sorry - just dashing past again

Thank you Whoknows and snap

Forgot today was meant to be weigh-in day!! V. important. Don't want to sabotage first Sunday's weigh-in.

Will endeavour to be back on here tonight when eveyrone gone!!

Tally-ho!

Yaaagggh - got to go

Sorry to forgot about it (shows how focused I am on my diet atm Blush Blush)

BlueEyeshadow · 17/06/2012 14:30

Hello all - hope you're having a good Sunday!

We had a good w/e - ordination service went well and boys were fine for FIL and SMIL. :)

A bit disappointed on the way home because we decided to stop at our local pub for lunch as we'd be passing at the right time, but of course we'd forgotten that it's Fathers' Day (none of our families bother with it) and we couldn't get a table. :( Managed an OK lunch at home though and now got to work out what to cook this evening. Also need to go and stop the boys driving DH potty... Sigh!

CarpeJugulum · 17/06/2012 18:19

Had a fairly chilled Sunday - not feeling so hot again (probably due to it being the first night in about a fortnight that I've been "off" duty so I've crashed and burned), so DH took DS out to the park and let me chill.

Starting to think about tomorrow already Sad and working out what needs doing.

swanthingafteranother · 17/06/2012 20:12

I weighed myself and I've lost a kilo since Friday! Does that count???

I am 80k and I should be 70 Shock I was 76 this time last year [disclaimer]

done
a bit of tidying, at very least I put the clothes on the landing away
cat litter tray emptied
more grocery shopping from Turkish shop on corner
washing on line and dried
took dd and ds2 swimming and tennis
played a smidgeon of tennis myself [that accounts for the kilo]

dh cooked scrambled eggs and fried potatoes for supper
piano practice x 2
violin practice ds1 x 2

and I cleaned out the car yesterday Smile

now steeling myself to tidy our room and hoover it whilst everyone is watching football. I really really don't want to, but must fortify myself with tea and DO IT.

Blue I think we forgot too. Dh took the children out to lunch, he did invite me, I just felt overwhelmed by tidying so I stayed at home to get ahead. He was exhausted by his night under canvas but had a long sleep this afternoon whilst I took them swimming. Hope your dh survived the day with children!

swanthingafteranother · 17/06/2012 20:14

No I'm 79 k not 80 k. Dunno what that is pounds, probably a quarter of a pound...

CarpeJugulum · 17/06/2012 20:41

1 kilo is about 2 1/4 lbs so vairy impressed swan Envy

Curlyfrizzball · 17/06/2012 20:47

Just a very quick message to say that we've had lovely weather today so have been out and about all day and hence done very little flying!
Done:
Washing
A bit of ironing
Washing up
Dinner cooked
Been to church
Went to 40th birthday barbecue yesterday
Went to garden centre to buy lawnmower blade -they don't sell them. Has taken me the whole year so far to get around to doing that and now I'll have to go somewhere else. Looks like our grass is destined to reach the windows (first floor flat!)
Long conversation with my mum on the phone
Been doing lots of walking today
Been to pre-school open morning yesterday, and signed DD up for 2 sessions after Christmas.

Actually, written down it seems like more than I thought, but the place is a tip.
Must get back to the mass de-clutter sometime! And catch up properly with all the messages here.

Toffee - I have no idea why he had the prime minister Russian dolls - he actually really liked them!? I've been trying to get rid of them ever since I met him - who wants those in their house?!

Engelsmeisje · 17/06/2012 21:21

camping in the garden - that's cool swan ! I used to do that when I was a kid.

body clutter - don't think I have lost anything (wii batteries are dead, we have an ancient old fashioned scakle whihc tells me I may have lost 0.1kg but then again I may not have Grin Am measuring myself too and no difference from the last 2 weeks) but managed 2 days under calorie limit and have done exercise (shred or run) for the last 3 days so pleased with myself (and having a rest day tomorrow!).

Despite being out for FD at ILs have still managed to fly today. House is relatively straight and tidy for MIL babysitting tomorrow.

sleep well everyone Smile

feetheart · 17/06/2012 22:41

Quick one to check in for the Body Clutter weigh-in.
I haven't really started yet but I am currently 1/2 a stone heavier than I want to be. I have a BIG birthday coming up in 2 months time and I want to be back to my usual weight by then. I think my plan has to be:

  • stop snacking on rubbish
  • drink more water
  • go to bed at a sensible time (so I don't spend the next day scoffing sweet stuff to keep me going!)
  • run regularly
Hopefully not too arduous though the snacking habit is BAD at the moment.

On the Flying front my Ta Da for today includes:

  • Breakfast in bed supplied by DC (really for DH but I got the benefit too :))
  • Washing done and out
  • S&S
  • Bagels made and eaten
  • Lovely slow roast lamb cooked in slow cooker (first attempt and it was gorgeous and easy:))
  • Rhubarb crumble cooked and eaten with custard
  • Dinner money sorted for DC
  • Ironing mountain tackled but still lots to do

In my defence all the food was requested by DH (though I think DC suggested bagels as they love them)

Need my bed now.
Sleep tight Fliers :)

ToffeeWhirl · 17/06/2012 23:09

Curly - maybe the dolls are collector's items now? Hmm

Swan - you are probably right that DS will bond with whatever dog we get, but I want him to feel excited about the prospect, not disappointed that we are not getting the dog he wants. At the moment he has a one-track mind about Collies and he looks stricken whenever I remind him that a Collie might not be the right dog for us. Knowing nothing about dog breeds, I had no idea what I was getting into when we started walking the Collie.

WhoKnows - sorry you were suffering today. Good for you to take some time out to rest. Any more news about the op?

Have had a fairly productive day today. DH took DS2 out to a zoo/adventure playground, whilst DS1 tackled more homework. Together, we finished the piece that he had struggled with on Friday. I'm not sure which of us felt more relieved as we emailed it off to the teacher.

Usual chores completed. Lamb casserole cooked for dinner. Wine drunk. DC bathed and hair washed (not too murderous tonight, for a change). Clothes laid out for the morning. Washing up mostly done, but sink not clear and I'm not going to do it now because I'm too tired.

Glad to see everyone had a good Sunday Smile.

Off to bed now. Night all.

likelucklove · 17/06/2012 23:21

Just dropping by again, will catch up with you all tomorrow!

Well done on your weight losses - so good even some of us who have been doing it for a few days!

No major cleaning done, just the flying basics because we've been out all day visiting various DDads and DGrampys for Father's Day.

Hope you've all had a good day!

Hello everyone. Hope you are all OK.

Body clutter: I am 80.2 kilos and I think ideally, I should be around the 63-67 kg mark. Call it 65 kg. I'm not sure. 172 cm with very slim frame and so weight has sort of grown 'out the front' in very unattractive 'lumps' on chest/stomach so you can see parts of me coming around corners before the rest arrives Blush!!

I haven't lost anything because I am re-starting again now. Planning to lose 0.5 kgs per week by:

  • getting enough sleep (I eat sweet things to keep going otherwise)
  • drinking a glass of water half an hour before each meal and drink more water generally (no fizzy drinks) *1 fresh apple or helping of apple compote a day with cinnamon (which helps balance blood sugars or some?at) *no eating after 8pm (or 3 hrs before bed) (have started sewing project to distract myself from eating in front of telly) *eating healthy breakfast *salad or soup for lunch during week - no exceptions *watch portion size at dinner (protein element = size of average kitchen sponge + loads of veggies)
  • 1 healthy snack per day (in addition to apple) but no bigger than palm *wear pedometer and walk 10,000 steps a day at least *in addition/including: 1 hour power walk or 30 mins exercise cycle 3 days a week, possibly 4 *tracking food intake on Myfitnesspal and weight/measurements etc *meal planning involving one extra trip per week to veg & fruit market *massively reduce coffee intake with a view to giving it up *weekly small non-food rewards to keep motivated! *obviously trying to cut out biscuits/chocolate/cake/ice-cream or anything delicious bad like that

If I manage to do all of the above all the time it will be a miracle but I really have to give it a serious try this time because: I have some health probs that would be improved by weight loss, I feel miserable this size, none of my clothes fit. Even if I don't manage all of the above every day, I am determined to do some of them a la Flylady and not give up when I fall short!!

Good luck to everyone else whether you are starting out or already seeing results!! Hopefully we can keep one another motivated!

BODY CLUTTER ROUND-UP for week ending Sunday 17th June:
Swan has lost a kilo (yay!) and is declaring 79k
Whoknows has lost 2lb!! (well done!!)
Lauren has lost 2 more lbs in addition to the 20.2 lbs already lost!! (amazingly well done!!)
Carpe has lost 1.8lbs (well done you - partic when ill!!)
Sanguinechompa hasn't lost anything Blush is starting again tomorrow, and is declaring 80.2 kilos.

And apologies to all - this w/e has turned out to be very busy and I haven't got on to MyFitnessPal yet. Will do so asap tomorrow!

Better post links and go to bed now as it is 12.30am here, so have already failed to implement one of my weight-loss rules, and have to be up at 6am.

G'night all. Apologies again for no personals. Hope to catch up tomorrow!

Today's baby-step no. 18 , for Monday 18th June is continuing previous steps + reading Flylady's eleven commandments [[http://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/flying-lessons/flyladys-11-commandments/ here.

This week, we are in Zone 4, the master bedroom here The idea is to try and declutter for 15 mins a day in the current zone. [SC tries not to cackle at current Fly Spot - only 5 mins to put away books/newspapers/magazines Shock - going to take a lot longer than that!]

If your main bedroom is already decluttered, you can progress to detailed cleaning

You can find all the missions for the week here [SC tries not to cackle at Monday's mission - there being more in her main bedroom that doesn't belong there than does!]

The habit for June is a good one - drinking water - more info here (scroll down)

The daily focus for Monday is the weekly home "bleugh"

If I've forgotten anything it should be in today's flight plan and here is the kid's challenge which hasn't updated for ages Confused

As it's the beginning of the week, here are some reminders of how we should be Flying!

Have a productive week eveyrone!!

Good morning!

In the middle of a bone-rattling, window-shaking thunder storm here. Not just claps of thunder but mini-explosions! Quite dramatic!

Up with a lark this morning because the commune in which we live (UK equiv of County Council - sort of) allows each residence an annual allowance of 3 metres cubed of old clutter which they will collect free of charge. Our collection is booked for today (any time between 7am and 2pm) and so we were heaving it all out of the door at 6 am. And it took about 4 hours or so of heaving things up and downstairs to gather it all together after our guests had gone last night. Dh was not happy!

It will be very satisfying to see it go though. Nothing like a bit of decluttering 101 to get you going in the morning.

Back in a while to catch up and see what you have been up to over the past few days!

OP posts:
laurenamium · 18/06/2012 07:49

Morning all! Just a quick list dump before mindee arrives, will be back later!

Home bleugh
Wash windows and doors
Wash kitchen floor
Walk dog
Post office for jiffy bag- post tesco vouchers
Wait in for food delivery
Shred!!
Put DD washing away
Tidy playroom
Possibly a spot of gardening dependent on DD naps!

BBL!

sanguinechompa · 18/06/2012 08:33

Same to you Vageena Grin!!

Likelucklovesounds like you "did" Father's Day very thoroughly - really lovely! Smile

Toffee agree with Swan about dog. It's too theoretical atm. Once your ds1 sees a lovely 57-variety number, maybe with a few collie characteristics (?) and it responds to him; I'm sure he will become less set on a pure-bred. Well done for ploughing on through homework furrow.

Feetheart your body clutter plan sounds eminently 'do-able' unlike mine . Very impressed by your skilled bagel baking - haven't ever attempted them - I bet it's quite an art getting the texture right isn't it?

You sound very calm and on top of things Engelsmeijse Well done re: Saturday list.

Curlyfrizzball we had same Russian dolls - dh brought them back from a trip to E. Europe many moons ago - he liked them too Confused!! Chucked once they became out of date ie stopped at Yeltsin I think and no Putin. Well done re: your fling boogie (and yes I think it is a Flylady cunning plan to get you to fling more!!)

Swan camping in garden sounds wonderful and hats off to anyone who gets 3 dc anywhere on time!! can only just manage it with one

From lower down thread; sorry to hear you are feeling low but as Toffee says - absolutely NOT your fault! 'Tis an illness like any other and thyroid ups and downs won't be helping either. Someone told me that although absolutely awful while you are experiencing it, depression can be a good thing in the long term because it's 'protective' (like physical pain) ie if cause not physical endocrine reaction, it can flag up a problem ie that you are possibly living the wrong life or living the right life in the wrong way for you (which, let's face it, is probably inevitable if you are focusing on the demands of 3 youngsters and a dh with no time left over for yourself!). Hope your doc can point you in direction of effective treatment and you start to feel better before too much more time passes x

Hope you are feeling a bit better this morning Carpe and sympathies re calorie content of wine!! I absently snaffled 3 sultana squashed fly biscuits late last night and then discovered they were 55 calories each ...

Blue so pleased to hear ordination went well and that you all had a lovely day!

Whoknows sorry to hear you are suffering. Here's to a speedily scheduled op! Agree about 'straw that broke camel's back' shouting!!

Swan/Whoknows Agree about 'straw that broke camel's back' shouting!! Can be something totally unrelated to what is actually happening that set's me off, even though current 'thing' seemingly small. Thoroughly confusing for dd Blush That's why one should never judge I reckon, you never know what other things have happened in the past hrs, weeks, months or other related background pressures.

Lauren and PA hope your crisis clean/house blitzing went well

Lauren hope the date went well!

PA didn't mean to make light of your dd's tattoo earlier down the thread. Really was dashing through. I would feel exactly the same as you if dd came to me 10 yrs hence and told me that she'd had one done - however tasteful. Feel same way as you and Swan about that sort of thing. I don't think people think ahead enough about what a tattoo will look like on saggy skin 40 yrs hence. I hope she and your dh have come to sort sort of reconciliation over it though. Fingers crossed she will just stick with the one.

Shock at 34 days left!! And arf at 16 yr old coil!!

Nicknacks glad you are all recovered and congrats on your 6-hr blitz! V. impressive! Apologies!! How I possibly confused Margate with Malaga I do not know Blush!! sign of imminent intellectual decline

Bitchy hope the travelling is going OK. Good to hear (in a way) that again, I am not the only one who struggles with calorie limit on MFP although I think with your training schedule, you could legitimately eat a horse every day couldn't you!!

Wisteriawoman (like your mysterious nickname btw!) are you newcomer or namechanger? (Forgive me for asking, elderly brain not functioning difficult to keep up with this thread sometimes!!) Glad the system is working for you anyway!! Smile

Brices you cleaned your dd's bedroom windows with an electric toothbrush Shock??? Now that's dedication!!!

Huge waves to Castlelough, Foad Honu Choccochip Morecats Flying Ellie and everyone else I have inevitably missed!

PS Swan earlier dog post of mine did not make sense. Meant to post that family have had quite a few dogs of different breeds over the years and of those, pointer and lurchers not as difficult to train as springers.

Have a productive week everyone!!
