Fledglings Fly in Flaming June; C.H.A.O.S. will be banished soon!

sanguinechompa · 31/05/2012 08:27

Welcome to the June 2012 Fledgling Flyers thread. Park your mops, buckets and microfibre cloths here!!

A huge "thank you" to Toffee for leading us throughout May!! Hope you have a fabulous holiday in Spain!!

If you're house is a mess and you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and Wine along the way.

We advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be inundated! All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, and as we are all at different stages we will be using one of the following methods:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

More info here, here and here

All welcome!!

thank you SC. the washing up in my kitchen (not just in the sink Blush) is going to take about six 15 min slots, more if the children carry on at the current rate to drive me mental.

I've tried flylady before, just after ds2 was born a year ago, and I think I never got past step 3....
but I NEED to change things.

BitchyInTheCorner · 07/06/2012 14:55

SC stop teasing the lovely curious Fledglings. The correct answer has already been given. Although Ironically despite the fact you all seem to think that I swim I actually have a phobia about water. Trying to sleep but one exciting text msg from friend and one phone call from ds later and Sleep isnt happening atm. So water and rest is the plan.

AllOut it does get easier, once you crack the initial mountain as long as you tackle it as you go you will start to feel a bit more in control. ignores fact that kitchen currently looks like a bombsite Oh and I think you might get past step 3 this time as the first step is to clean your sink and the second is just to get up when you wake up rather then lounging around. As for the third step? well it is just do steps one and two Grin it is really bad that I know this off the top of my head but yet still dont put this into practice Blush

Right parcel got to where it needed to be and the recipient is very happy so that is good. More water and another attempt at sleep is in order!

LinzerTorte · 07/06/2012 15:06

Bitchy (I won't tell anyone that you're really an underwater knife-thrower btw Wink) I used the NHS C25k plan first time round; the music isn't great, but Laura is very encouraging. Second time round, I switched to the BUPA plan (mainly to avoid the jump from 8 to 20 minutes in Week 5) and programmed the timings into the Runkeeper app on my phone, which meant I could run to my own music.

Flyingwithoutwings · 07/06/2012 15:09

Way hey!! I'm back!! I have wireless connection again
Right... I'm not so much flying today, more of a tornado!
But in true flying style, I'm not doing anything that's not really needed.

Have a small BBQ happening on Saturday (late jubilee celebration).
So I'm cleaning the conservatory, kitchen and bathroom as those are the only places people will go. The lounge will have a 15 min rescue.

The conservatory: ewww, gross... Mould around windows etc... It's so freaking old, doesn't actually leak but it's windier than McClaren's wind tunnel!
So far:
Taken out (and cleaned & stored) anything that doesn't belong in here.
Next:
Declutter the shite that remains.
Then:
Hoover every inch (including roof) to get rid of cobwebs.
Then:
Use 2 packs of flash wipes to get the thing clean!!

Wish me luck Sad

LinzerTorte · 07/06/2012 15:09

Oops, forgot about the water phobia. Alpine knife-thrower, I meant.

BlueEyeshadow · 07/06/2012 15:15

Waves from the circle of hell known as soft play on a wet half term afternoon in Margate. Am on my own cos DH can't bear the noise & DS2 stayed with FIL &SMIL. Plan was swimming but baby pool full. DS1 having fun though! Confused

alibalibees · 07/06/2012 15:22

done- hoovered
1 load of washing
been shopping
been for daughters prom dress alteration
to do-another load of washing
tuperware cupboard sort out
go to boxercise

I did my first C25K yesterday :o

AllOutOfNaiceHam · 07/06/2012 15:37

I tend to falter at getting up, I work from home, and I have Chronic fatigue, and once I sit down, getting up again hard, hard work :(

BitchyInTheCorner · 07/06/2012 15:46

I understand that feeling AllOut have postviral fatigue several times in my life and should be careful. Do it in 15mins bursts and lists of 3. Three small things that you want to do eg: put a load of washing in the washing machine, hang load up, do washin up. Not much but achieveable and will help. Another list might read put clothes away, clean mirrors, empty bins. Small lists are your friends and not expecting it to all get magically tidy over night. It won't so be realistic. I have been on this thread since it start and I am still decluttering. Life keeps getting in the way and there have been moments months when it has all got on top of me. Slowly plodding on a little here and a little there and finally it is possible to see that I am making an inroad. But only just. I am realistic. I suck at the babysteps, I suck at consistancy but for me a little and often, the power of 15mins and the chit chat helps to keep me sane.

Right now the council has finished cutting the lawn, the phone and doorbell have been unplugged perhaps now sleep will be possible. Bastard migraine. The thought of Botox for treating migraine scares me SC. And it is much easier to sleep and eat regularly which i didn't do today hence the suffering. Tis easy to put right if the feckers leave me alone

Curlyfrizzball · 07/06/2012 18:56

Hi - can I join all you lovely people?? I was on one of these threads for a couple of weeks several months ago, then gave up in despondency as I'm so rubbish! My sink was shiny for about 3 days altogether I think! It was nice while it lasted though!

My problem is lack of time (or so I tell myself). I have a 4 day a week job which also often requires working in the evenings, and a toddler, which doesn't leave a lot of time or energy for housework. However, before I had DD I was probably worse - have never been tidy - so I can't really use that excuse. It does bother me a lot more than it used to though, and I'm fed up with being too embarrassed to invite anyone round.

I haven't read anyone else's messages yet I'm afraid - just wanted to mark my place, but I'll be back to do that later.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 07/06/2012 19:06

Evening all, evening 2 of Home Alone WhoKnows and, well, it's a miracle, I haven't needed to do any housework to speak of because when there's only me here, no mess happens! Quite a revelation. They're all back tomorrow, which I'm glad about actually, it's nice having time to yourself, but oh so quiet!

Welcome to AllOut and Curly, just do what you can, lots of people come and go on this thread, some of us stay on the thread but the Flying comes and goes but it's nice to know other people are in the same boat.

I've just been outside getting all the lighter garden stuff (plastic chairs, football goals etc) put away because it is getting VERY windy out there. I need to put away my Ocado shopping now and, well, lucky me, they've given me a free bottle of red wine! While DH is away! What good timing!

Engelsmeisje · 07/06/2012 19:08

No flying done today. DH was at home with DS and I've been at work. Dishes will wait for tomorrow but at least I didn't set fire to anything today

Brices · 07/06/2012 19:23

I spent 15 mins with Bar Keepers Friend cleaner in the kitchen, mostly cleaning the walls and tiles. I didn't think it was that dirty to start with... Oh dear now I've started I can see dirt everywhere!

Flyingwithoutwings · 07/06/2012 20:31

Chuffed to bits with myself... My conservatory is spotless!! It took 4 hours of hoovering and scrubbing but it is done Grin

Have done 1 load of washing too, just hung up on the airer.
Time for a bath to try and soak the dirt out of my nails Hmm
Then an hours ironing and bed.

Tomorrow I'm tackling the kitchen & bathroom, BBQ food shopping and cake making Confused
Doubt I'll achieve it all... Hang on.. No, I WILL achieve it all Grin

BitchyInTheCorner · 07/06/2012 20:51

Huh, just realised i never got around to anything on my to do list. Ah well perhaps another day.

Friday's list:
clear out car
sort out training kit
check directions
finish ufo?
See friend
training
early night.

A short list for tomo.

sanguinechompa · 07/06/2012 21:32

Well at least you had a list Bitchy I didn't really get around to doing anything much except faff about ineffectually.

A warm welcome to Curlyfrizzball and hello again to Alloutofnaiceham Wise words indeed from Whoknows and Bitchy! Easier said than done I know but try not to be too hard on yourselves and go steady. Try to bear in mind that we are not aiming for perfectionism on here - if we can just do one or two things each day - and don't get despondent when we fail - but keep ticking over - then that is good enough. It's taken a long time for our houses to get how they are - and it will take a long time to get them back under control in my case a very very long time but it can be done small step by small step. Don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions we are all wierdo lace-up shoe wearing obsessives friendly on here!! Wink Grin

Btw allout if it helps, I think, under Flylady rules, that you are allowed to scrub your sink without actually finishing the washing-up (as long as it is stacked neatly out of the way somewhere). See point 11 here

Welcome back Flying! Brilliantlly done re: your shiny, scrubbed conservatory - hope you have a lovely party on Sat. (Please can you direct me to the smug corner. I think I made it there about once, eight weeks ago, for all of 5 mins, but haven't managed to find it since!!! Grin Grin)

Brices I can't get hold of it very easily but I know people that swear by Barkeeper's Friend. Well done on the scrubbing but go gently!

Engelsmeijse good to see the pyromaniacal tendencies are under control Grin

Cheers Homealonewhoknows enjoy your last night of freedom Wine!!!

Alibalibees Many congrats on your 25k - that's really impressive!! Smile

Oh dear Blue Hope your day improved. If not, here's some Wine Wine Wine

Linzer great links - thank you - found myself studying the 'exercises for older people' Grin

Hats off to all of you who are running and taking the time and trouble to get and keep fit though. I am genuinely in awe!!

Tomorrow's baby-step, number eight for Friday 8th June, is here Very useful for newcomers as it involves going over the basic routines established last week (baby-steps 1 to 7) but we suggest you don't join the Big Tent and sign up for e-mails or you will be inundated.

Also useful for newcomers Flying Lessons

Tomorrow is our last day in Zone 2, the kitchen, here The idea is to try and declutter for 15 mins in the current zone each day.

If your kitchen is already decluttered, you can progress to detailed cleaning

Tomorrow's mission is sweeping and mopping kitchen floor

No need to stress because the zones and missions all come around again a month or so later!

The habit for June is drinking water here

Friday's daily focus is 'declutter car and handbag day' here

Kids challenge is here Still haven't got the hang of how often these are changed - but this one needs to update.

If I've missed anything, it will be in tomorrow's flight plan which also needs to update.

And as tomorrow is the last day of our first complete week of Flying this month, here are some reminders!!

You can do it!! Small step, by small step ....

Evening! I forgot to sign in this morning because I was sleeping busy FLYing Grin Thanks for the marks sc Wink

I had a lovely time at the cinema and would definitely recommend What to Expect... I laughed, I cried and I loved it! Not sure my 35 weeks pregnant friend enjoyed it as much though, but I know I can't stop at DD now.

Been v busy today, but paying for it with my back Sad Was so nice to get all the jobs out of the way I can't do with DD around.

To Do

Get up and dressed
Hoover
Spend 15 mins decluttering in kitchen
Sort out spare bedroom
Put all clothes away - still haven't unpacked!
Mission for today - take things off counter tops and clean
Do laundry
Hotspot in desk
Pick DD up
Shine sink
Pick out clothes for tomorrow for me and DD

Is it wrong I'm not questioning mine and DP's relationship after seeing all his horrid clothes? Seriously, most of it wouldn't look out of place in the 80s... And he wasn't even born then!

Hope you've all had a good day! Thanks

laurenamium · 07/06/2012 22:20

Took children to super posh park (were bored after 15 minutes, sigh)
All laundry
Tidied playroom
This months obs for LJs typed up

Thats it! Must try harder! Night all!

Flyingwithoutwings · 07/06/2012 22:36

SC there's a warm seat in the smug corner... I'm off to the naughty corner now as I didn't do any ironing Blush
In my defence: DS didn't go to bed until 9:30 Angry
Will try and do some tomorrow but I think my list is already too big!!

Good to be back Grin

Butlins was... Good fun for DS

sanguinechompa · 07/06/2012 22:59

Thanks Flying Smile but don't think I deserve it today - have achieved absolutely nothing to speak of I'm afraid and I have absolutely no excuses!! [Proffers official ironing "pass" for tonight]

Lauren sorry you've had a tough day battling bureaucracy etc but well done for completing the mission and your list!!

Well done with your list too Likelucklove [proffers heat pad for back] Not unreasonable at all (think I would have had serious doubts about marrying dh if I had seen his full record collection before the happy event Grin)

Huge wing flaps to everyone else. G'night!

HEEEEEEELLLLLPPP! Am I too late? I swore I would be signing up to june's thread pronto so I can give the magic regime some sort of crack at the whip before I crack up, but teetering on the brink of insanity as I am (and buried under 101 different piles of crap) I forgot. If I delay till July I fear there will be no hope and a monster may rise from the paper in manner of Nessy and swallow us all up.....:(

sanguinechompa · 07/06/2012 23:15

Of course you are not too late ScruffyBear You are very welcome! Dive on in. Have you Flown before? If not, have a look at Flying Lessons linked at 21:47. Any questions - don't hesitate to ask.

Really am going to bed now! Sweet dreams everyone ...

BitchyInTheCorner · 07/06/2012 23:19
? Scruffy? Grin Not to late at all. Jump aboard!
castlelough · 08/06/2012 00:06

Hi everyone and welcome to Scruffy , AllOut and Curly!

As you will tell from my lists I haven't been flying very long (one month!) but even what I'm doing now is better than how I was before I joined! Just taking babysteps!

Today I stayed on in work a bit later than usual, then went to town and:
Did my 'Errands & Grocery shop'
Met DH for dinner so no washing up or cooking done here today!
Visited DMiL
Phoned DM
Sorted laundry basket and put on a wash

Very little really compared to the lists of others!

Bitchy Your lists are frightening me! You get so much done!

Lauren I have ordered the 30 Day Shred DVD. Wondered what all this shredding was in your lists! Now I know! Hope it works for me!

Wingflaps to everyone else. Too tired to remember any more personals. Off to do my BB routine yes I know it's way past my reasonable bedtime Blush
Nite x
