Fledglings Fly in Flaming June; C.H.A.O.S. will be banished soon!

Welcome to the June 2012 Fledgling Flyers thread. Park your mops, buckets and microfibre cloths here!!

A huge "thank you" to Toffee for leading us throughout May!! Hope you have a fabulous holiday in Spain!!

If you're house is a mess and you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and Wine along the way.

We advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be inundated! All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, and as we are all at different stages we will be using one of the following methods:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

More info here, here and here

All welcome!!

castle I ordered the 30 day shred dvd as well but I've had it a month and it's still in it's cellophane

managed to pull myself off the sofa last night and do my evening routine as I knew I would hate myself if I got up to a fiflthy kitchen this morning. It's the one habit that I've really managed to stick with since started FL last month and it is making such a difference to my state of mind (and my house!).

I gave myself the incentive of telling DH that he could watch one of the awful Aliens attack the world films he's been nagging me to watch for hours. nothing like bad special effects and an implausible storyline to get me flying again!

errand day today...

return watch -
take bridesmaid dress to tailors to see if they can adjust it
DS helmet appt
food shopping
buy new bra (am still hiding in my nursing bra which and my boobs have shrunk alarmingly since I stopped bf Sad )
leaver's prom this evening so must look fabulous (or at least make sure I am not the frumpiest teacher there)

happy flying everyone Smile

Morning all. Who's with me? Need some companions/motivation pleae!!

I have 3 hrs available this morning when I am alone (no workmen - yippeeeee!!) and I am determined to make progress today (a) restoring house to rights post workmen/ decorating (b) tidying boudoir (partially sorted several weeks ago and then abandoned allowing a whole new layer of detritus to settle on top with horrifying results (bedroom = obstacle course) (c) tidying up worst of home office which has been my refuge while decorators were here and has suffered in the process and (d) sorting out sitting room which basically had entire contents of hall dumped in it while hall was being painted (e) hoovering up fine layer of white plaster dust that has settled everywhere (and I mean everywhere!!).

So here's the to do list:
Morning routine inc dw on, wm on, sort rabbits exterior enclosure, s&s
Then, using 15-min timer method, am going to alternate tidying between boudoir, sitting room, and home office X 3, last 15 mins in hour being used for computer/admin/coffee drinking, reporting back here.
Also need to do a supermarket shop
Write a few important e-mails
Clear dining room table hotspot
Some sort of fish supper (have nothing planned as yet)

On your marks, get set, GO!!!

Wing flaps back to Castlelough and well done with your list - which is not lacking at all - better to be realistic and achieve everything on there than set yourself up for a fall.

Well done for being so self disciplined Engelsmeijse Wish I had followed your example last night or I wouldn't have so much to do today. Once I sit down on the sofa of an evening - I am lost! Really need to start doing something more active two or three evenings a week than parking my butt in front of the telly! (Very clever tactic using Aliens film as motivator too - should be lots of opportunities this month with Euro 2012!!!)

Hope everyone has a productive day!

Morning all.
Loving the motivation!
Well we've had to call the BBQ off so I can release some cleaning pressure Grin
The purpose of the BBQ was to have a kids jubilee party (we were away last week), I've got jelly moulds, bunting, flags etc... But it'll all blow away Sad
Do postponed for now.

But at least my conservatory is clean!!

So my to do list for today:
Clean bathroom, including toys

Ironing.

Much more acceptable Grin

CarpeJugulum · 08/06/2012 09:10

DS's cold - 1
Flying - 0

Also, DBIL (DH's DB) shared last night that his wife walked out on Tuesday night. Not a huge surprise and I dislike her intensely so not exactly upset by this but it has thrown us.

In short, life has taken over.

Maybe back later.

PositiveAttitude · 08/06/2012 09:41

Morning all.

Stupid day today. DD3's 18th birthday. Spent yesterday preparing for a day full of celebrations. Made a cake and decorated it. Wasn't happy with it, so at 4.30 this morning I was making another cake and am just about to redecorate second attempt, which is already a lot better then the 1st! Hmm

Family "party" at lunch time, then friends for meal this evening before she heads off out for her first evening in a small local club - just because she can! Kitchen looks like a bomb has dropped. DD4 being a pain! DS has nose on x-box. I am just about to scream at them both!!

sanguinechompa · 08/06/2012 09:46

[Groan emoticon] first hour complete. It's pretty hellish ...but rabbits are binking happily in enclosure with fresh hay, water, marjoram and strawberry leaves. Dw is on as is wm. Bathroom has been s&s.

Taking 5 min break before the really grim stuff of the day begins..

Oh dear - sorry to hear your DBIL's news Carpe. Tis good that you and your dh are there for him though.

Lauren Respect to all you shredders! I've looked at the DVD and read the reviews on Amazon but it looks very scary to me! Think I would need a defibrillator on standby.

Oh, sorry to hear about the party Flying but as you say, your cleaning has not been done in vain - you're ahead of the game now!

Likelucklove hope you managed to resist the call of the duvet!!

Better get back to it [more groaning, whinging and unattractive mutterings]

OP posts:
sanguinechompa · 08/06/2012 09:57

Oh no PA - you must be exhausted!! sounds exactly like the sort of thing I would do but I don't have five teenage dc and three jobs and am not packing up my entire life to move to Cambodia!!

Hope you manage to survive the day and that your dd3 has a fab birthday!! And hope she knows how lucky she is to have a ma like you too!!

[restorative bottles of Wine and cups of Brew on standby for later]

Phew! 2 hrs 45 mins of tidying/laundry and rabbit husbandry accomplished!

Now I remember why I dont Shred - because this house is a workout in itself - 53 steps up to dd's room from the ground floor (even worse from cellars)!! Have spent entire morning lugging heavy laundry baskets, portable fans, paniers of clean towels and bed linen and other general detritus up and down and generally putting stuff away that dh blithely ignores and steps over on his way somewhere elseConfused. Now have tidy kitchen, sitting room, playroom, hall and bathroom. Boudoir is still unspeakably awful but will have to allocate more time for it this afternoon.

Doing rabbit hokey-cokey - in out and shake it all about - according to rain showers. They look terribly sweet poking their noses out of their latest cardboard box house, sampling the air ...

CarpeJugulum · 08/06/2012 12:51

Right, got my kitchen sorted, and toys from this morning tidied up; duplo between the toes anyone?! Shock

Window cleaner is here, so have given rooms a cursory tidy so I'm not embarrassed! Blush

Have managed to get the DW emptied, my WAH job done, and kitchen completely tidied, wiped down & mopped.

Am hoping that DS naps for a fairly long time, but I can't see it somehow.

Right, on with the tidying for the weekend!

Scruffybear · 08/06/2012 13:21

Bitchy LOL! that link was a blast from the past, yes, like that but a touch more scary...anything could be living under all the clutter in this house and I wouldn't know it.
sanguinechompa nope, I've never tried it, yet another thing I 'didn't quite get around to...' a familiar excuse in these parts. I have swotted up on all the things I should be doing from the thread, know the plan for today and so far.......have achieved almost feck all! But hey, it's nap time for the DDs, 2.5 and 10mths, so surely even I can muster a bit of progress now. If not I will log on later for directions to the naughty corner!

PositiveAttitude · 08/06/2012 15:38

Just dropping by between lunch time party and evening meal preparation. Cake is on my profile if anyone wants to have a peep!

CarpeJugulum · 08/06/2012 16:10

Love it pa Smile

Fancy doing one for my DS's 2nd? Wink

PositiveAttitude · 08/06/2012 16:46

Its taken me 5dc and 85 birthday cakes (not counting DH's) to get to this one!!

Thanks for the comment! I dont think it would travel too well.

AllOutOfNaiceHam · 08/06/2012 17:22

thank you for all the lovely welcomes. I did try to get the mountains stack of washing up cleared yesterday but a combination of screaming children, my music machine killing itself and me having a bad day ended in a bit of a meltdown on my part.

my one task for today is to put a load of washing on. if I manage that I won't feel too terrible.
I suck at this..

Curlyfrizzball · 08/06/2012 18:51

Thanks all for the welcome.

Sanguine - just the thought of all that cleaning and sorting makes me feel exhausted. That's more than I do in a couple of months, I reckon! I bet it feels really good to have it all done though - well done!

PA - love the cake!

So today, I have been out with friends most of the day, but have chased around for 20 minutes or so, mostly so that I had something to post on here other than I've failed on my first day!! I guess you guys are helping already! Anyway, not much but I've hung one load of washing up to dry and put washing machine on again, and done last bits of washing up. Sink - cleaner than usual, mostly because it doesn't have loads of dirty dishes in, but I don't think FlyLady would call it shining!

laurenamium · 08/06/2012 20:09

Hiya! I've had a full day at work today so have fit flying around that I'm afraid, if it wasnt for knowing I had a list to cross off I wouldn't have done a thing! Smile

Ta da:
Today's mission- washed kitchen floor
Put my laundry away
Hoovered
Walked dog
Had a catch up with friend and new baby
Cleaned down kitchen
Shined sink
Tidied toys after children had gone (apart from DD!)
Phone call with vet, possibly not side bone Grin
Jubilee party with the children

Going to sit and sew my dress for tomorrow, then shower the dog ready for him going to my mums for sleep overs tomorrow!

You've been very motivated today carpe Shock!

Love the cake pa!

sc shredding isn't too bad I don't find as its only for 20 minutes at a time! But if you're working that hard with flying then you have no need for shred!

Waves to scruffy, curly and naiceham!

I'll be back tomorrow!

Brices · 08/06/2012 20:42

Welcome hello to scruffy, curly and naiceham

Very impressed with your cake pa lucky DD. I am 38 years old and have not made one birthday cake Blush

lauren just googled side bone (horrible photos) can see why your Grin

Today I have mopped floor, mission ticked and cleaned kitchen window. Has venetian blinds so I youtubed the best way to clean them. Its with a hoover Shock bet you all knew this. The only reason I got a dyson was because it was recommended on Mumsnet. So I put it to good use!

Still to do:-

clear out handbag
shine sink
lay out tomorrow's clothes

First big smiles today from 8 week DS, melts your heart doesn't it Smile

AllOutOfNaiceHam · 08/06/2012 20:47

washing is on. woohoo!

Brices · 08/06/2012 21:18

I've found definitely one of the best things about flying is laundry.
I always put on one load a day now, just routine and life is so much easier

swanthingafteranother · 08/06/2012 21:52

oh dear so long reading all the posts that no time to say much except
done
more tennis and swimming wth dcs
entertained old school friends all day and gave them lunch

also yesterday gave a "home" party rather belatedly for ds2 birthday (it was in March) 8 friends, it went well, only a bit of ASD related stress (ds didn't want to play some of games but to turn up Queen very loudly (the Freddie kind) Dh said I was a natural at giving children's parties, which made me feel better after he had told me how utterly disorganised my preps for them were...Confused He is right, stress could have been reduced with a bit of judicious housecleaning earlier in week....

children were set to work beforehand hoovering and tidying so I hope we instilled something in them! However, Sad I was reduced to buying the cake from Morrisons....Blush it was horrid!

whoknows glad sleepover went well

likelucklove · 08/06/2012 21:56

Evening! I managed to ignore the call sc! DD sleeps better without me anyway. Did most of my list before 10am which I was really impressed!

Morning!

Thanks for the support sc he said he could say the same about me Hmm I think not! Enjoy your workman-free morning, no noise!

Some very productive fledglings on here today ....

Brices wish Youtube had existed when I moved in to dh's bachelor flat many moons ago. He had windows and windows full of Venetian blinds and they were right buggers to maintain I had no idea how to keep them clean. Bought some wierd device that looked like a knuckle duster covered in velour but it was a right faddle and not terribly effective. Well done re: your productive day (really good going with a baby that young!!!) and aw at his first smile Smile

Carpe You've also done really well to get so much done - hope your ds slept long enough to allow you a few moments for yourself!

Ditto Lauren!! You've done loads - as well as gone to work!! Good news via vet - does that rule out ringbone too? Arthritis? Or maybe just bruising? [nosy desperate horseless-person emoticon]

Curlyfrizzball Thanks - I was pleased with results - but I can only take credit for tidying not cleaning I'm afraid! Have a cleaner who is not very good comes on Friday afternoons. House too old/big/difficult for one person to manage. And you have definitely NOT failed!! [looks sternly over pince nez] You've more than fulfilled day one requirements!!

And [looks even more sternly over pince nez] you definitely do not 'suck' at this Alloutofnaiceham All such talk to be banished from this thread please! [harrumph emoticon] You've put your washing on. That is GOOD.

PA Shock Shock Shock at your 85 cakes!!! That must be some sort of record!!! Today's creation = fab btw!! Bet your dd loved it!! [Proffers feather-filled mattress and cashmere blanket with squashy cushions]

Scruffy I 'didn't quite get around to...' is a familiar refrain in chompa household - we've all been there are there so don't worry about it!! Flying with a 2.5 yr old and a lo of 10 mths is HARD.

Huge wing flaps to anyone I've missed!

Back in a mo with links.
