Welcome to the June 2012 Fledgling Flyers thread. Park your mops, buckets and microfibre cloths here!!

A huge "thank you" to Toffee for leading us throughout May!! Hope you have a fabulous holiday in Spain!!

If you're house is a mess and you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and Wine along the way.

We advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be inundated! All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's tips on restoring order to our homes, and as we are all at different stages we will be using one of the following methods:

  • repeat or start baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

More info here, here and here

All welcome!!

NickNacks · 06/06/2012 13:40

Hello! Did ya miss me?? Just arrived home from our lovely summer holiday and jumping in with both feet because house was tidy when we left and I have some lovely new kitchen appliances to make it fun (!)

Sorry I won't be able to catch up with the 202!!!! Posts already made in June but consider me here, present and FLYing :)

Chocchip88 · 06/06/2012 14:00

Oh dear, yesterday went a bit wrong and today the work men are back to finish off the kitchen. I feel like this house will never be finished! Even when the workmen are gone we will still have a concrete floor so it will be another couple of weeks with the fridge and dining table in the living room Sad I have to keep reminding myself it will all be worth it and much better now than with a newborn.

Engelsmeisje · 06/06/2012 14:41

Afternoon all. Have fallen off the flying wagon the last few days but ready to jump on again now.

No list today because I've been super lazy so will catch up with the thread instead.

Bitchy I actually had a dream last night that you were a polar explorer Grin I need to get out more

Engelsmeisje · 06/06/2012 14:44

Oh, and yesterday I almost managed to set fire to my oven. Either....

a) the oven was so dirty that it spontaneously combusted
b) the ciabatta was defectove
c) the oven is defectove
d) I am defective (DH is convinced I put the oven and microwave function on at the same time...but it happened twice and not even I could be that stupid...I hope)

The upshot of which is that the oven was cleaned yesterday for the first time in...oh, maybe 2 years? (and I didn't get any ciabatta for lunch).

BitchyInTheCorner · 06/06/2012 15:19

I fear when you all figure out what I am actually training at you will all be disappointed Grin In the mean time I am chuckling at your guesses.

Ta da
Up and dressed
Ironing (pile is empty until i do some folding now)
Finish off the project from the other day
get washed and dried
double check address going to
wrap up ds' father's day present
wrap up present for little girl

Just about to go buy some more wrapping paper as I only had little bits in stock. Then post office and laundry and paperwork are in store for me today.

Bbl

swanthingafteranother · 06/06/2012 16:20

nil housework

but Grin
taken dcs to play football
then taken dcs to swimming pool, and tennis (we are novices so we all enjoyed playing together, very very badly!) I swam again, and hot spa-ed for 3 mins again, my shoulder is improving after a year! So relieved.

ds1 unfortunately has stayed at home Sad this afternoon

now to return to the chaos..and sort out the house before tomorrow's gathering/party for ds2. Just hope hardly anyone comes...so far a nice little group - don't want more! Blush

Brices · 06/06/2012 16:24

I think the training in the cold is.....
Swimming the English Chanel your in a bikini but covered head to foot in lard :)
Back from first vaccinations, was dreading it but wasn't too bad.
No kitchen cupboards looked at yet will try and do just one so I can say I've done a bit today

BlueEyeshadow · 06/06/2012 18:49

MN seems to have eaten my post from earlier, but wanted to say to swan that Broadstairs is lovely and will pm you when we get back.

laurenamium · 06/06/2012 19:29

Hi all!

I've had an interesting day today Hmm, it started off with a phone call from the banks "fraud squad", someone from London has cloned my card and has been buying multivitamins and paying O2 random amounts of money with it Angry so my account is frozen apart from direct debits and they are sending me a new card, which makes paying for things I normally ring and pay over the phone for next account Blush very tricky. Grr

Next was the phone call to the vet, who was very non-comitall (sp?) to coming to see my horse, I managed to pin him down to an actual day...a time however remains elusive!

Despite this there is a ta da:
Cleaned Tupperware cupboard and pan cupboard
Walked dog
Took DD and other kids to park
Big shop- and put away
Hoovered down the sides and gaps in sofa
Shined sink
Swept kitchen floor

I still need to do shred and never made it to clean the bathroom so that will be on tomorrows list!

Welcome waves to brices! Smile

Envy
BitchyInTheCorner · 06/06/2012 20:28

Oh god no Brices. 1. I don't swim 2. In the english channel with everything that floats in it 3. Actually I think 1 and 2 cover it and I am now suitably traumatised.

I have done a load of laundry
made a cake
finished a project off, washed wrapped and sent it
cut the pieces for half of an entire new project
cut the missing pieces for completing another project
wrapped up and writing card for an already completed project
And done a bit of work on the big in progress project.

Not bad for today but am beginning to feel the need for an early night. Just a few more bits play around with itunes to do and then I will be done for tonight I think.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 06/06/2012 20:37

Arf at the image of Bitchy covered in lard! I think she's training to stack the freezers in Iceland with Greggs sausage rolls.

Lauren - I had one of those phonecalls last year, but I assumed it was some sort of con and hung up. I then got my credit card bill which was full of mysterious payments to someone in Nigeria. The bank put the money back in and got me a new card pretty quickly but kept sending me forms to fill in for months afterwards, together with copies of all the fake invoices and stuff, I had to confirm I had never seen them before. It was quite interesting.

Engels - the top oven/grill of our gas cooker caught fire once. Turned out DS (then aged about 2) had shoved a bottle of suncream into the grill pan and I didn't notice before I turned the grill on. A right mess that was to clear up.

Welcome back to all the holidaymakers, I'm feeling quite envious.

Sleepover went well, considering 6 months ago it was a huge ordeal for me whenever DS had a friend round he has made huge strides with his social skills. Although there are a few of his friends that I would not be quite as comfortable to have staying over as this boy, who is extremely laid back. They did spend most of the time watching telly or playing on the Wii as it was raining so much but if you can't do that on a wet day in the school holidays when can you?

Flying - I have been at work all day so not done much. Hoovered twice as the boys spilt cereal all over the place, then as soon as I had hoovered that they spilled cake crumbs everywhere. But I love my cordless vac so much that it is no trouble at all. Need to do more washing, then I am going to settl in front of the telly with a pile of paperwork and some Minstrels

CarpeJugulum · 06/06/2012 21:38

Ahem. I'm supposed to be in the swimming pool right now. Look. There I am. I'm certainly not lying on the couch watching Lewis and dribbling slightly over Hathaway (the character, not the actor; just to clarify!). Nope. Not me. Blush

sanguinechompa · 07/06/2012 00:57

Hi lovely fledlings. You've all been v. active today I see. Just back from really terrific concert so posting steps now and will catch up with personals in the morning.

Today's baby-step, number seven for Thurs 7th June is a really helpful one continuing previous steps + laying out clothes for next day the night before.

We are still in Zone 2, the kitchen, here Try and declutter for 15 mins a day in the current zone.

If your kitchen is already decluttered, you can progress to detailed cleaning

Today's mission is wiping down counter tops

The habit for June is drinking water here

Thursday is errand day here

Kids challenge is here 5 min wardrobe sort

If I've missed anything, it will be in today's flight plan

Have a good 'un!

sanguinechompa · 07/06/2012 01:39

As it happens, can't wind down immediately so have been reading what you've all been up to:

Carpe hasn't been watching telly instead of swimming, oh no Wink but did keep herself motivated enough to complete everything on her list! Top marks!

Whoknows has been watching telly but has survived a sleepover

[snaffles honey cake] Bitchy hasn't been covered in goose grease or exploring the Polar ice cap but has been a domestic goddess!

Lauren has been chasing a vet and been a victim of c. card fraud (what a nuisance for you)

Blue and Ellie are both off on holiday (hope you have a wonderful time!) while ...

Nicknacks and Feetheart have just returned!! Yay!! Welcome back!! Glad you both had a great time!

Brices has been intrigued by Bitchy (hats off to you for Flying with an 8-week year old) Hope your dd is OK.

Swan has been terribly sporty with her family and er, hairy men Grin and hydrangeas

Engelsmeijse cleaned her oven following a near conflagration (I once inadvertently used the same method to clean one of my chimneys!! Wink)

Choccochip has workmen blues (I hear you loud and clear!! Can't wait for mine to leave)

Likelucklove receives top Flying marks for a completed list plus flapjacks!

Foad received and obeyed my subliminal messages [cue wierd sci fi music] Wink Grin

Linzer and Swan bemoaned the offputting nature of school PE lessons and wondered how to motivate flagging dc

Brices Linzer Ellie and Foad are (v impressively) hitting the road ... and shaping up in the process [SC looks shifty and remains strangely silent]

See you later today!!

CarpeJugulum · 07/06/2012 06:16

Morning all!

Right, well. What am I doing today?

Um... Um...

I have no idea. My routine has gone kerflooey. One of the joys of DH having had a few days off a couple of weeks ago, and then the Jubilee weekend which cancelled "normal" things!

Today is toddlers day. That much I know. So that's a trip into local town. DH needs a pair of his suit trousers dry cleaned - so I'll take them, and I have books to collect at the library.

DS needs a haircut, so I'll try to do that before toddlers too. Oh and I need a trip to ASDA to collect stuff.

I know I need to empty the DW and S&S and do my WAH job.

That's a plan right?

BitchyInTheCorner · 07/06/2012 07:22

Sounds like a plan to me carpe

Hope you got some sleep in the end SC

ta da
piece together pieces cut yesterday (topper for that quilt now done)
Prep remaining pieces for ufo project
1 load of washing.
Up and breakfast (cooked).
Discover that the two fitted sheets is actually one fitted and one flat so need to check before washing that this was intended not accidental.
Watch the news generally avoid this as it is generally depressing
drink coffee.
Swear at burglar alarm that goes off at the same time every bloody morning. HmmBlush new owners in house and not used to it yet

To do
finish putting together UFO
wrap and send UFO
mend bag (stitching has come unravelled 2 min job)
Paperwork - finish started to be sorted files
Try to be unsentimental about uni files and ditch contents.
Hang some pictures.
Nap?

I got up to go to early training. Then decided I couldn't be bothered Blush as I got sided tracked by the crafting stuff. Need to clear a few more UFOs/USPs and loads of clutter.

Honu · 07/06/2012 07:54

Just not enough time in the day to both read this thread and post!

All Jubileed out here - village has been awash with bunting, street party on Sunday removed to village hall (rather small for no. of people) due to persistent COLD heavy drizzle, bbq also (brave souls making forays outside to turn burgers and sausages, all else in vh). Planned red and white skirt plus fetching blue top abandoned before dressing in favour of blue jeans, red fleece over white T shirt, but by 5pm all covered by thickest winter fleece I could find. Beacon lighting on Monday in high field at back of village magical though - half mile hike to site across fields worried visiting friends from town (no street lights!) despite my having made sure they came well wrapped and booted. Beautiful sunset, spectacular moon, camp fire with marshmallows on sticks, cakes left from day before, cava for royal toast, giant bonfire....

But no flying!

House an even worse tip than usual.

Is Bitchy ice skating or husky racing?

NickNacks · 07/06/2012 08:14

Hola!

I'm also intrigued as to what Bitchy is training for and I'll guess at Tri-athlons.

Today is our last day all off together as DH returns to work tomorrow so I think we are going to do something nice.

Apart from that I need to....

Call ofsted and pay fee
Clean bathroom
Daily wash load
Tidy dining room

I'll leave it there and anything else is a bonus :)

laurenamium · 07/06/2012 08:45

Morning! Just a list dump!

To do
Laundry already washing
Today's mission
Clean food cupboards
Go to makro
Walk dog
Take kids to newly refurbished super posh park
Cut grass if no rain
Clean bathroom
Shred
Routines
Put DD clean washing away

BBL!

CarpeJugulum · 07/06/2012 09:32

I think Bitchy does bog-snorkelling Wink

BitchyInTheCorner · 07/06/2012 12:51

Honu Grin I do like playing with knives Wink

Sorry NickNacks not sprint, olympic or ironman triathlon training. although i know far more about triathlon and its' required training then I need. So in theory I could apply the knowledge at some point

Don't i need to be able to swim for Bog snorkling carpe?

Can anyone recommend a c25k podcast/download thing? I need to add some running into my training schedule. I'd ask on a running thread but they scare me Blush

I get to expand my Ta Da List:

piece together pieces cut yesterday (topper for that quilt now done)

AllOutOfNaiceHam · 07/06/2012 14:12

drowning in CHAOS, can I join?
my house is disgusting; washing up piled high in the kitchen, stuff all over the lounge/dining room/work room, about ten loads of clean laundry on the stairs, boxes in the upstairs hallways and kids bedroom, our bedroom still looks like we only just moved in.
I'm so overwhelmed I don't even know where to start.

sanguinechompa · 07/06/2012 14:34

Hello Alloutofnaiceham (love the nickname btw) you are very welcome! You've come to the right place (and if you could view my main boudoir right now you would see that it also looks like we just moved in (but with a decade of detritus on top!)

Don't despair. You can just 'jump in where we are at' or start with baby-step one (shining your sink). See here In fact, if you are feeling despondent, that's all you need to do today - clear your sink of washing-up and clean it!

Everything you need to know to get started here but suggest that you don't sign up to Big Tent e-mails or you will be inundated.

The Flylady system is good because it basically tells you what to do each day thus removing that overwhelming, energy-sapping "rabbit in headlights" feeling that everything is screaming out to being taken care of at once.

Just do 15 mins and then have a Brew x

OP posts:
sanguinechompa · 07/06/2012 14:46

It's synchronised swimming isn't it Bitchy (bet you look real loverley with a nose peg eh?? Grin Grin Wink) Sorry to hear you have a horrible migraine again (did you read about Botox treatment in press recently btw?) Go easy with those lists!!

arf at Carpe (or maybe it's [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KOyQBSMeIhM Gloucestershire Cheese Rolling)

Hope you had fun at the park Lauren and enjoy your last day of freedom Nicknacks

Beacon lighting sounds magical Honu

I did catch up on sleep in the end thank you Bitchy and even better - decorator and workmen have finished, departed, gone AND done a great job in to the bargain!! Yipppeee!!! I can now run around the house wearing peculiar clothing with loobrush hair and no longer need to make five rounds of doorstep sandwiches every lunchtime!! Liberation!!! [grins inanely]
