Come inside for a Brew and a Biscuit and maybe even a Wine if the mood takes you.

A thread for chatter and nonsense Grin

Are all of you losing posts and having trouble connecting?

Scout I posted earlier but I think the post was eaten, does TS like stickers?

Would he understand that everytime he went straight to bed he got a sticker?

Would he understand that if he got 5 stickers you would make a windmill with him?

I can unfortunately imagine mrBessie doing the same thing

CatsSleepAnywhere · 30/04/2012 12:40

bessie Does your 3 year old still have huge tantrums on a daily basis?

carrotsandcelery · 30/04/2012 12:47

It wasn't malicious book reading Shock it was just thoughtless c@*p parenting book reading iykwim.

Cats I think it is massively normal for a 3 year old to still have tantrums.

You have to make them entirely unsuccessful iirc. ie they never get their way by having a tantrum. Then try to spot them doing something well and praise like crazy. It can be something tiny.

Hark at me today Blush

I am the one with the child in psychiatric (ish) care yet here I am dishing out parenting suggestions.

Carrots I keep getting "Mumsnet offline" a lot lately.

liveinazoo · 30/04/2012 13:08

i was just about to put that cats
that and eating my posts then going offlineHmm

if its any consolation little zoo still meltdowns couple ties a day and ds and dd2 still have their moments

bessie26 · 30/04/2012 13:09

DD1 doesn't throw many tantrums. She might have a bit of a strop if she's tired, but I think I am much better at defusing them before they begin these days. e.g when she started grizzling the other day I told her there was a tiger behind her & we had to spend 5 mins looking for it Grin If she does "go bad" I do as carrots says & ignore her.

When does she have the tantrums?

CatsSleepAnywhere · 30/04/2012 13:15

Mornings are not good, just before we need to leave the house for school also she just had a bit of one cause I was trying to eat my lunch and she wanted something. (She had already eaten). Hmm

CatsSleepAnywhere · 30/04/2012 13:18

Anyone fancy "buddying"? Or do you have a pointy stick handy?

I can sense a feeling of CBA creeping in!

Lunch time! Yum Bacon and cheese omlette scrambled egg and toasted pitta.

Cats - you are not on your own. Big brother sister is watching you and you need to "get on with it""

bessie26 · 30/04/2012 13:37

Getting anywhere on time is a nightmare. I start getting everyone ready ridiculously early & have decided it is better to spend 5mins mucking around looking for tigers than 5 mins+ dealing with a tantrum. It is difficult to remember this when I am tired though.

Does she like sticker charts? Could you draw a list of what she needs to do in the morning & give her a sticker for each task?

carrotsandcelery · 30/04/2012 14:00

I agree with bessie about the chart Cats.

For ds we had a picture of eacht thing he had to do to get ready to go out. eg toothbrush and toothpaste, shoes, pants and socks etc. He put a tick beside each one but she could put a sticker beside each one (I am assuming she has the motor skills of a 2 yo and ticks are tricky). I did have to keep shaking it up but it did work.

His teacher has laminated a little card explaining what he has to do when he gets to the classroom so the same technique still works (although I don't think he has tantrums when he gets to his classroom or anything - it is just to speed him up).

It gives you a chance to offer praise and therefore positive attention rather than the only way they can get attention in the morning chaos being when they go berserk.

bessie is right about diffusion too. If you can see it brewing then distraction is the name of the game.

We are all going to have the house covered in sticker charts by the end of this week!

cats ichild website has downloadable daily routines
ive printed them off as reminders for the zoolets as when we get ready they need to stay focused as i only have 1 set hands and if they all get sidetracked at once chaos reigns!Grin

i havve had very load heavy metal music on tis afternoon to boost flying performance as it has a fast beat

carrotsandcelery · 30/04/2012 14:42

The ichild website is great. I joined yesterday. I had to put in the details of our non working printer buy it got me in.

What music are you on zoo? I am on Kate Rusby again but getting bored with this album now and either need to look out a different one or choose something else.

CatsSleepAnywhere · 30/04/2012 14:46

Will use reward charts. We are also potty training still Hmm. Have had to stop and restart loads in the past cause I've been ill and then she got flu. Really want her to get it this time!

CatsSleepAnywhere · 30/04/2012 14:48

I must go now as I need to get her ready for school run.

zoo and the rest of you with reading age dcs, there are free ebooks available. Reading on the laptop might appeal. I know it might to ds. I will go and link.
