Come inside for a Brew and a Biscuit and maybe even a Wine if the mood takes you.

A thread for chatter and nonsense Grin

No worries, Cats. I hope you're feeling okay.

YAY for holidays, carrots. We usually holiday in Devon August bank holiday week with the entire MrScout clan (PiL, SsiL, BsiL, N/N, & Nan when she was alive). It's not always the most relaxing of weeks but it is a week by the sea and I don't have to cook or clean. We also go back to the States for Thanksgiving and usually go for two weeks. We stay at Mom & Dad's and use their house as our base (sometimes we travel farther afield, like when we took a week to go to NYC the year before Toddler was born, but usually we stay local and visit family/friends).

I have a mini to do/ta dah list I should go and post.

educatingarti · 01/05/2012 11:44

Ugh ugh ugh! Still feeling headachy and a bit brain dead. Just resorted to serious amounts of caffeine! Got lesson write-ups done though!

bessie26 · 01/05/2012 11:49

Yay for holidays carrots! that sounds fab Grin

We are going to CenterParcs (yet again!) with my parents in September. We should probably goto Devon & visit SIL during the summer holidays (her DH is a teacher), but our friends in Brussels are having another baby in June & we would quite like to go visit them too...

carrotsandcelery · 01/05/2012 11:56

Well that was quite an experience. Apparently my sinuses are so bad it is visible to the doc, the nurse and then the chemist Blush Presumably that means I look a bit like Shrek. Shock

I have a steroid nasal spray, a saline nasal spray and some stronger pain killers. The pain killers have an unfortunate side effect (constipation) so I have to drink fresh orange and eat lots of fruit etc to counteract them. They may also make me drowsy so if my posts are woozier than normal then please give me a slap.

To top it all the doc decided it was time for more thyroid tests etc so I have had 3 vials drained from my arm. It was not pleasant as a vein didn't feel like popping up for the nurse today.

Anyway, it is all done now and I have taken my first lot of painkillers so I am hoping for some relief fairly soon. (I have had a glass of fresh orange and washed some strawberries in readiness).

I had to write an evaluation of the doc's performance which seemed to amuse him as I used to teach his dc so he said it was his report card! Grin

Oooh! Brussels sounds fun bessie.

oh and thanks for reminding me about clearing the fridge out before shopping carrots DH put the shopping away last night (while I was out for a run) and he has done his usual trick of just putting the new stuff on top or in front of the old stuff. I am going to have to "educate" him about this, as now I am doing the meal plan/shopping list & internet shop (he now plays golf on a tuesday night instead of going to the supermarket) I think the least he can do is put the bloddy shopping away properly!

Signing in for lunch time. I have had a chilled and relaxed morning so this afternoon I need to get to work.

Going to have lunch now.

My tablets seem to be making me feel very calm and zoned out. I think I am o.k. though.

carrotsandcelery · 01/05/2012 12:14

I forgot to say that ds slept all night until 6.04 with no cd player and no light except a very low level night light.

Yay!

(Dh is forgiven too Grin)

Calm and zoned out sounds nice Cats. Mine are supposed to do the same so we can trip together. Grin

Oh the joys of GCSE Chemistry - but I think I have got the lesson sorted now!

Yay to Carrots ds and Carrots, I hope your painkillers kick in very soon.

Scout - hoping for a stress free nap-time for you
Cats - glad you are OK

Just off to cook lunch - cauliflower and pasta cheese!

bessie26 · 01/05/2012 12:19

I could feel myself getting a bit het up earlier (trying to entertain DD2 & make lunch & clean) so just did a couple of mins of yoga stretches/breathing and felt SO much better. (DD2 thought it was very amusing too!)

CatsSleepAnywhere · 01/05/2012 12:35

< Wonders if zoo is o.k. today? >

Scout19075 · 01/05/2012 12:40

An hour and counting.

ARGH!!!!

Scout19075 · 01/05/2012 12:57

No, sorry, more like 90 minutes.

Why doesn't it take Super Nanny this long EVER?!?!

Scout19075 · 01/05/2012 13:01

If I didn't have Seniors I'd force him to stay up until bedtime at the rate he's going.

This is just ridiculous.

carrotsandcelery · 01/05/2012 13:11

although bessie's yoga is a far better plan.

Ds has learnt a breathing technique where he pretends to be blowing out bubbles and that helps him.

It will work Scout. I know it is horrific just now but it will work.

OP posts:
educatingarti · 01/05/2012 13:12

I have just made a pasta and cauliflower cheese with a "proper" cheese sauce (roux method) and it actually is very lumpy lovely!

Scout - it does take Super Nanny that long ( seen progs where it has been several hours) but as you usually only get the edited "highlights" it doesn't seem like that!

Take a deep breath and keep going!

carrotsandcelery · 01/05/2012 13:13

Arti I don't like the sound of the Chemistry. Eeek! I passed my Higher (A level) but felt utterly baffled the whole time.

OP posts:
carrotsandcelery · 01/05/2012 13:14

Arti is right Scout. On SuperNanny they are still at it in the wee small hours sometimes.

It is easier with someone else around to take turns with though.

OP posts:
carrotsandcelery · 01/05/2012 13:15

Well done on the sauce Arti. Sounds yum!

Scout19075 · 01/05/2012 13:18

Thanks for the spacey pills, Carrots, my poor wrists and back (and arse Hmm) could use them.

Someone please lie tell me we'll have this nipped in a week. I'm not sure I can handle more than that.

Super Nanny's highlights always show things like "30 times in 90 minutes" -- Toddler is more like 30 times in 10 minutes. ARGH!

I think I may have won....

bessie26 · 01/05/2012 13:22

Stay strong & consistent scout

educatingarti · 01/05/2012 13:24

Yey Scout! You will have this sorted very soon ( probably within a week!). How old is TS?

I am a bit of a messy dyspraxic cook! Actually GCSE Chemistry is more natural for me than cooking,( though I seem to remember that my Chemistry practicals were a bit dyspraxic too- had holes in clothes/shoes once from where I managed to spill concentrated sulphuric acid on myself!) but since my diagnosis of glucose intolerance, I just have to make a bit more of an effort on the cooking front. I am currently revisiting my old domestic science notebook from very many years ago, hence the cheese sauce and the Cornish pasties.

carrotsandcelery · 01/05/2012 13:28

Scout I would be very surprised if you don't have this nipped sooner than a week. Just make sure it is not fun or rewarding for him and he gets nothing pleasant out of interacting with you on the return to bed. I don't mean be horrid to him (although you are only human), I just mean don't let it be pleasant or entertaining for him.

Did you consider the reward chart?

I also remember Super Nanny putting tennis balls in a huge jar and the dc getting a reward (a windmill?) when the jar was full. That might work better on someone so young.
