We've had the ice cream truck here several times in the last few weeks I hate the bloody thing. It used to come just after I put Toddler to bed at night and without fail start playing it's tune just outside our house, causing Toddler (then BabyScout and newly toddler ToddlerScout) to scream and shake uncontrollably for a good half an hour. This year it's coming around a little earlier but it still plays it's tune right outside our house and when it did it when I was putting TS in the car he was NOT impressed with it.

carrotsandcelery · 11/04/2012 20:42

Oh no Scout. Can you go and ask them to move up the street? I am sure they wouldn't want to put off a potential future customer.

Ours comes once a week between Easter and October. It is a family run business and she knows all the children. She also works at the special unit at the local high school so the older children and those who need more support know her well too. She is a welcome visitor although it can be expensive. I let the dcs go to her themselves as a starter for shopping themselves. Dd obviously can go to the shop herself now for me but she started out by going to the van.

carrotsandcelery · 11/04/2012 20:46

Letting the dcs play outside was a mistake. They got over excited and took a game too far. Ds ran inside and put the chain on the door and dd hurried behind him, didn't realise the chain was on and broke the door frame shoving the door open.

She was practically hysterical even though it wasn't really her fault. I have managed to fix the door frame (it had just come unpinned so I have hammered it back in) but it has given them both a terrible fright so I am fully expecting an unsettled night now as they can't have felt very peaceful when they went to bed.

I tried to get ds to go through his usual soothing routines but it is hard after that sort of chaos.

Scout19075 · 11/04/2012 21:01

I went to go have a chat with the driver when he did it when we were outside but he drives like a bat out of hell (even with the road humps and cars on both sides). He'll come anywhere from every day to once every few weeks. Toddler heard the van today (in the distance), when we got home from our meet-up, and said "Church Music" (yes, he says church VERY clearly -- church music is any sort of slow, orchestral, marching band or tinny type of music in his mind).

Oh dear, carrots, that sounds like a not-so-calm way to end a good day. Fingers crossed it doesn't have a knock-on effect for the rest of the night.

carrotsandcelery · 11/04/2012 21:12

Scout I am Shock at an ice cream van driving like a maniac. That is a recipe for a disaster. What a pity.

I stayed very calm (amazingly) and just got them to brush their teeth etc and get up to bed. I think the shock was enough of a punishment, especially after the mirror incident. They were horrified.

Fingers crossed it doesn't disrupt the night.

Scout19075 · 11/04/2012 21:18

He does sometimes park/idle at the parking space diagonal from my house but then plays the music as he drives off. The top part of my road only has houses on one side, I'm at the curve in the road and then it starts houses on two sides (I'm the end terrace on the one-side only). He drives like a nut down the two-sided part of the road. I figure by doing that he must not want business!

Oh, forgot to say zoo, your present idea sounds wonderful!

CatsSleepAnywhere · 12/04/2012 06:38

Morning all, DD woke me at around 5.30 this morning. She is being a bit clingy and is sat on my lap. I was hoping I can get on and sort my bank statements so I can try and work out if and when we have some money coming in.

I am a bit tired as I had a restless night.

carrots I might go with your idea of trying to sell a couple of things. I know we still have a couple of baby things stored around the house so might be able to sell them.

DD has got down now so I am going to try and get on with things.

Hope you can get a net connection zoo although if you can't you won't see this.

CamperWidow · 12/04/2012 08:04

Crappy night here. 6 mnth old Muddles decided to keep me away pretty much all night. We co-sleep and I ended up bringing her down onto the sofa but she kept me awake from midnight till about 4, then 5 till 6, then Lollipop came down at 6:45! She kept kinda waking and crying for dummy/bottle then would drop of for maybe a minute or so and would then start again! Sometimes she'd drop off for a bit longer only to start screaming! She just couldn't seem to get complete asleep IFKWIM. She really struggled to totally drop off and would wake up again frustrated.
Sorry to rant!
Potty training is going really well!!! She didn't have any wet accidents yesterday and over two days she has got 20 wee wee stickers on her chart!!!! She even knew she needed a poo, sat on the potty, but got off again and did it in her pants. I think she just needs to get over the thought of doing it on the potty first and then we'll be go!!!!! She's just sat and done another one now!!!! So proud of her! Grin

carrotsandcelery · 12/04/2012 08:10

Camper bad news about the sleep but good news about the potty training. Do you have a busy day ahead of you?

Dh woke me up this morning to tell me that Twilight had had a "mishap" in the hallway. Hmm

He did clean it up though. I am still baffled as to why he had to wake me up first. I suspect he thought I would launch myself out of bed and do it for him.

The dcs weren't up through the night, or if they were, they were too scared to come and say so. They both seem happy this morning.

DD has a day at the stables and the sun is shining so hopefully she will have a good day.

Ds has a construction set and a gingerbread biscuit decorating set to do today. He is desperate to get into the kit but I have said to wait until we have dropped dd off.

Scout19075 · 12/04/2012 09:46

Good morning!

Toddler & I have done some seed planting (in those little kits) and now he's drawing and singing about Holly (he loves Ben & Holly and Peppa Pig) and "isses" (crisps). Hmm We're going to go have baths soon and then we're going to the soft play that sounds like a pub for toddlers to meet up with his best friend. He was very excited to hear we're going to meet "friend play!"

carrotsandcelery · 12/04/2012 10:52

Hi Scout. Ds is desperate to have a friend round here to play but after tidying dd's bedroom there is ebay stuff everywhere. She is at the stables today but I have told her that when she comes back we need to tidy it into one neat place until we have sold it.

We are planning to tidy ds's room today while it is just the 2 of us. We are hoping to have his cousin to stay at the weekend but it has not been confirmed.

liveinazoo · 12/04/2012 12:03

carrotsandcelery · 12/04/2012 12:27

zoo's kitten naming thread

CatsSleepAnywhere · 12/04/2012 12:28

Yes zoo I need someone to pointy stick me into action!! Wink
Will try to start around 1.00.

I have spent this morning finding and filing bank statements, I only need to find February's now. I am hoping we will get tax credit money appear in the bank account soon. I was so hungry just now I had the shakes. Sad
Am now trying to have some lunch.

Will have a look at your kittens thread. Smile

carrotsandcelery · 12/04/2012 12:32

I have had baguette with brie and cranberry for lunch It was lovely!

I am hoping to summon the energy to make a huge pot of soup for tea. It is bucketing here now and dd will be outside all day. I think soup and baguette should be a nice warmer when she gets home.

I am a bit cross as have found loads of her stuff dumped in ds's room when she tidied her room.

She must know that I will come across it sooner or later.

Guess what else she is doing when she comes home.

Ds and I have spent a while in his room and filled a black bag with rubbish (mostly art work and school work which I am a bit sad about but you just can't keep it all). We are going to buy some blutak when we go to get dd so he can stick up lots of his more precious pieces.

I have more or less narrowed it down to the miscellaneous crap treasure that doesn't seem to have a box or drawer to go with. I am seriously tempted to bin it all but I don't know what is loved and what is clutter. Hmm

carrotsandcelery · 12/04/2012 12:33

Oh no cross posts Cats of the most tactless sort. Sorry!

carrotsandcelery · 12/04/2012 12:34

Cats can you eat cereal or something like that to keep the hunger at bay while you eek out the food until some money comes in?

carrotsandcelery · 12/04/2012 12:36

I got so hungry I had the shakes the day we went swimming. It is not funny. I ended up eating silly things as well I was so desperate to get some food in.

Can you tolerate super cheapo bread? It can be a cheap way of filling up.

liveinazoo · 12/04/2012 12:44

super cheapo bread toasted is ok-it loses that slightly wierd fusty flavourWink

thanks for the link to kitten thread cats

hope youve found something to snaffle.

i tend eat porridge made with water and topped brown sugar to fill me up when not much inSmile

i also slice up friut for the zoolets-one apple thinly sliced goes round all 3 rather than one each in dire strait momentsWink

CatsSleepAnywhere · 12/04/2012 12:46

It's o.k. carrots, I've just had a marmite sandwich and am having an apple pie with a cup of tea. We have some snacky items of food in it's just the main meals I will have to be creative with. There were lots of helpful suggestions on the credit crunch thread.

DD is being rather difficult today.

liveinazoo · 12/04/2012 12:52

i love marmite sandwiches

carrots when i was pregnant with dd2 dp wanted to call her atticus if she was a boy!
for some reason inmy mind i see atticus as a whopping black man-like the kind you seee in films in the cotton fieldsConfused

i have no idea why mind!

thankfully she was a girl and by the time ds came a long he had changed ideasGrin

liveinazoo · 12/04/2012 12:57
