Sounds interesting. Look forward to hearing what you get carrots!

I wrote a mini amazon wish list of beautifying products I wanted to get & emailed it to DH last month. It felt a bit cheeky, but I could just imagine DH wandering around town wondering WTF to get me from the girls, so I thought I would suggest something I actually wanted!

carrotsandcelery · 17/03/2012 22:25

I suspect ds has "created" something for me and he is very excited about it.

I still have tissue paper streamer pom pom things in a paper "vase" on the chest of drawers in our bedroom. I can't bring myself to declutter them. I only allow them and a lamp to sit there once the top has been decluttered though. Blush

bessie26 · 17/03/2012 22:39

I have a drawer full of cards "from" the DDs and some from DH. Some things are allowed to be kept [soppy] - remember fly lady says on her decluttering page (words to the effect of) "does it make you smile?" Grin

I have possibly drunk too much wine & DD2 has just started making noises [sob]

carrotsandcelery · 17/03/2012 22:46

Oh no!

bessie26 · 17/03/2012 23:02

it's ok - I'm still here drinking Wine I think she must have just got herself jammed up against one side of the cot.... and then sorted herself out. I think this is why she keeps waking me up in the night (DH is oblivious to her cries!)

Am Shock at the poor footballer who appears to have had some kind of heart attack on the pitch today. My friend's husband had "a series of mini heart attacks" a few weeks ago (he is early 30's) - scary stuff

MyLifeIsStillChaotic · 18/03/2012 07:03

Happy mother's day all. My youngest has had me up since 6.15am Hmm Not exactly the present I wanted...

Anyhoo t'other one is still asleep so it's relatively peaceful.

Cheese and sweetcorn scones
350g self-raising flour
1tsp baking powder
1tsp salt
2tsp english mustard powder
1/4 tsp cayenne (or paprika, but I like the slight 'kick' of cayenne myself)
1tsp thyme leaves (I have used fresh and dried in the past, both taste good)
50g cold unsalted butter, cubed
175g mature cheddar, grated
250g sweetcorn (drained weight)
175ml semi-skimmed milk
juice of half a lemon

Preheat oven to 220C (fan 200C) gas mark 7

Mix flour, baking powder, mustard, caenne or paprika, salt and thyme together in a large bowl, then add the butter and rub in until it resembles fine breadcrumbs. Tip in most of the cheese (but reserve some to top the scones) and all of the sweetcorn.

Mix the milk and lemon juice, then add to the mixture and stir in, it should be a slightly sticky dough.

Knead the dough 2-3 times on a loured work surface but don't over work the dough. Divide into 10 balls, shape them roughly by hand and place on a floured baking sheet. Brush each one with a little milk then top with the remaining cheese and sprinkle with a little cayenne or paprika.

Bake for 10-12 minutes unitl they are risen, golden and sound hollow if you tap the underneath (mine took more like 15 yesterday you just have to keep an eye on them)

Cool on a rack and then devour with lashings of butter

Happy Mother's Day!

I went to bed at midnight (MrScout's my fault). Toddler had me up/awake from 3:00-4:15 then I couldn't get back to sleep and he's been up since 6:45.

I am crabby.

bessie26 · 18/03/2012 13:59

Happy Mothers Day!

scout & chaotic hope you aren't feeling too tired, any chance of a doze on the sofa? I was woken at 630 by DD2, but she was happily chatting to her bunny, and she didn't wake me in the night (perhaps I should drink half a bottle of wine more often?!) so I'm feeling ok, although I could quite easily sleep right now!

CatsSleepAnywhere · 18/03/2012 14:05

Hi all, Happy mothers day!

DD has been unwell since last night with a 24 hour? tummy bug. Sad She seems o.k. though and is watching Toy story and making lots of cackling noises.
Lots of washing/drying going on here, just hope I can keep up with it and she gets better soon.

How is everyone else?

Scout19075 · 18/03/2012 19:52

I hope everyone's had a restful day.

bessie26 · 18/03/2012 20:37

yes thanks scout - how are you feeling? Are you having an early night tonight? Why was TS up in the night? teeth?

Scout19075 · 18/03/2012 20:54

Oh heck yes to the early night, bessie.

I don't know why TS was up. He was chatting away the entire time. From what I could get from him it was too light and a cat. (My inlaws have five cats, four of whom are black and lovely but like to come and sleep with us. They push the door open and obviously don't shut it and my PiL leave the hall light on during the night so obviously it means a lot of light into the room when opened.) I don't know if that's true or not. But when I finally got up to talk to him, give cuddles, etc. (because he wasn't distressed I did my best to ignore him) I changed his nappy and closed the door and got that "info." He then kept telling me "seep" and "ded" (sleep and bed) and yawning.

I did think "oh, he'll have a lie-in" but he didn't. ARGH. He did go down for an early nap (like 10-10:30) but we had to wake him to go for lunch (we had a reservation at one of the local pubs). Then his cousins came 'round. I had hoped to get him to bed early because he looked shattered (and it had been such a struggle to get him up for lunch) but he ended up going at normal time.

Fingers crossed for a long, quiet night.

carrots, are you able to tell us what DS had up his sleeve?

bessie26 · 18/03/2012 20:59

ah... excitement! When do you go home? Hope he sleeps better tonight.

Scout19075 · 18/03/2012 21:20

We'll go home tomorrow. MrScout will go to work from here and his car is waiting at the station close to home. Toddler and I will have lunch here and then head home. When we do stay until Mondays we tend to have lunch at a garden center on the start of our journey the center has a free-- soft play space in the cafe area so it give TS a chance to run around before being strapped into his carseat for up to two hours. My PiL are very fond of Toddler and love treating him to a cafe lunch and watching him play (and lots of other things, of course, but they love having us here and like our Monday routines).

carrotsandcelery · 18/03/2012 21:36

Hello everyone.

It has been quiet on here today I see.

Ds's surprise did, indeed, surprise me. He had made me a card, which I had suspected, but had also written me a letter telling me how much he loved me and how even though he tells me all the time he really does mean it and so on. I am choked again now just thinking about it. We have such a hard time with him sometimes but... Grin

I hope everyone has enjoyed their pampering. Mother's Day is a tricky one really isn't it? Shock

bessie26 · 18/03/2012 21:43

ahhhhhhh carrots that is soooooo sweeet! Grin

Glad everyone has been busy with better things to do than MN today! I am writing a meal plan

Scout19075 · 18/03/2012 21:49

Ooohhhh, carrots, that's lovely! Grin

"Toddler" gave me an "I [heart] Spreadsheets" mugs because I really do [heart] spreadsheets (and it's a bit of a family joke). He obviously doesn't understand the "specialness" of today but his face was priceless as he ran down the hall carrying the gift bag to give me a hug. My MiL also gave me a gift -- it made me uncomfortable the first two years she did it but I've finally realized/accepted that she gives me a present as the mother of her grandchild and she wouldn't do it if she didn't love me/us so much.

One of my SsiL had her birthday a few days ago and the twins birthday is later this week so there was lots of present exchanging today! Grin

bessie26 · 18/03/2012 22:50

hehehe the littlies do love giving gifts don't they! DD1 was thrusting presents into the Grandma's hands before they'd even taken their coats off today! Grin

carrotsandcelery · 19/03/2012 09:53

Morning all! I have been on fire this morning. I suspect my blood is liquid chocolate after all the Lindor I ate last night and that is what has given me the energy.

The house looks a tip though. I have a massive pile of ebay stuff that I listed yesterday (free listings) and all the stuff dd has relinquised for the loft is still under the hatch in the hallway.

I will have to tackle some of it today but I have no idea how I will do it.

CatsSleepAnywhere · 19/03/2012 11:04

Carrots I have sent you a PM Wink

carrotsandcelery · 19/03/2012 11:27

I am starving. Do the rest of you get really hungry well before lunch time or am I just greedy? Blush

carrotsandcelery · 19/03/2012 12:13

Hellooooo! Anyone out there?

I have been trying out Chaotic's cheese and sweetcorn scone recipe. They are in the oven and smell delicious.

It has distracted me until lunch time and will keep me going a bit longer as I am waiting to try one (or two) for lunch Grin

If anyone else is going to try it, make sure you do them in a large bowl. I will use my bigger one next time!

It's a lovely sticky mixture so great if your dcs love sticky messy cooking.

CatsSleepAnywhere · 19/03/2012 12:21

I am around now but need to get lunch.

carrotsandcelery · 19/03/2012 12:24

Maybe they have eaten themselves into chocolate induced comas on the Mother's Day treats Shock

carrotsandcelery · 19/03/2012 12:28

Oooh! Chaotic Thank you for the scone recipe. They are lovely! I am eating one warm with a bit of low fat spread. Yum!
