Flinging our way through the chaos: February’s Fledgling Flyers

Welcome to the February edition of the Fledgling Flyers' thread.

If you're living in CHAOS (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome), this is the thread for you! We follow the tips on the FlyLady website in an attempt to restore order to our homes, but advise against signing up for the e-mails; all the information you need is on this thread.

Each day, I'll be posting the links that will enable you to do any of the following:

  • start or repeat babysteps
  • repeat babysteps and do 15 minutes a day decluttering in the current zone

or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

More information about the babysteps is here.

So please join us - there's always plenty of chat, Brew, cake, encouragement and the occasional Wine to help us on our way!

Hi everyone, Can I pop in for motivation today?

I know it's meant to be "Family day" so I hoping to do something later on like a board game.Hmm

My house has got a bit chaotic lately so I am trying to tackle some of the jobs today and maybe tomorrow.

So far I have done:
breakfast
get dressed
made my bed (others still to do)
1 x wash up
1 x washing and hanged on airer to dry

To do:
lots of general tidying and washing.

Neenook · 04/02/2012 11:18

Morning everyone!

Last two performances of village panto today - it'll be nice to get our weekends back! I've managed a few 'keeping on top of things' jobs this am...

One load of washing in machine DONE
Dishy emptied and re-loaded with breakfast stuff DONE
Lasagne made ready for wolfing between performances DONE
Online banking DONE once I get off mumsnet
Beds made (see above!)

Cristiane My thoughts are with you - keep strong and positive as it will get better. DH has battled with depression since his teens - there have been some very difficult times but he has been determined to overcome it. I know how hard it is for you - make sure you have support and someone to talk to too, I had counselling myself last year and wish I had done it ages ago.

Hi Blackcat Smile

justonemorethread · 04/02/2012 11:35

Toffee, no, unfortunately church was booked for 11.00, it was only clear early this morning that dd1 wouldn't be well and it was too short notice. Church is near in-laws and mil's sister is here for it after they haven't seen each other for 5 years.
My family is abroad, it was all done very short notice but we have waited 2 years to get all the various bits of family together and it was just never going to happen, so I just booked it for this weekend knowing dh's family was going to be here.
Blah, I just have to let it go I guess, but it kind of feels like she hasn't been christened to me because I wasn't there!

Sorry for whingeing and ignoring everyone else, can't really read through or dd1 will feel neglected.

Will def catch this evening!

laurenamium · 04/02/2012 12:55

justonemore how awful to miss the christening Sad, DD hasn't been christened as we aren't particularly religious but I understand how important it is and know it must be awful to miss it Sad

Just a list update
Walk dog and catch up with mam done
S&s bathroom done
DD to party- not done she's not well enough Sad
Cleaned kitchen and work tops after dinner done
Put out kitchen hotspot done
Sweep kitchen floor
Living room hotspot
Outdoor rabbit
Planning
Hoover
Laundry1 washing - DP is on fixing the tumble dryer Grin

LadyInPink · 04/02/2012 13:05

Justonemorethread, that is just horrid timing. I can empathise although it is so not the same thing. I organised a big naming ceremony for DD as the family up North hadn't met her yet (she was 4mths) and at the last minute they all had to cancel as Great Grandad had had a fall and so they didn't come. I ended up having a huge expensive party for all my fiends and family who had already met her countless times but hey ho. Great grandad died as a result of the fall and never met her Sad I'm so sorry you have missed her special day, you have every right to whinge.

Having a nice relaxing day. DD has been out to her violin practice with DH and bought moshi monster stickers with her pocket money. I have a long list of stuff she has to do before school Monday but she has promised to do it all so I guess we are half way there.

Off out to a Burns night tonight, and DH has bought a tam o shanter with a bright orange wig. DD and I are just going to wear checked shirts Smile

LadyInPink · 04/02/2012 13:06

Friends gah not fiends Grin

LinzerTorte · 04/02/2012 14:16

So sorry to hear about the christening justonemore; I can only imagine how disappointed you must feel. It's very difficult when everything is arranged and you have family coming from abroad specially. We had our three christened in both countries as we had elderly relatives on both side who wouldn't have been able to travel - but I did heave a huge sigh of relief once the fifth christening was over, I must admit (we had DD2 and DS christened at the same time in the UK).

We spent most of the morning shopping, as we needed to choose tiles for the kitchen and bathroom, buy birthday presents for two of the DS's friends and also get the food shopping done, as I hadn't had time during the week. I also decided to buy myself some plastic storage boxes from the DIY store, which turned into a bit of a disaster. Coming out of the shop, the wind blew the lids from three of the boxes up out of the trolley and into the path of an incoming car - it ran over two of them and the other hit the car somewhere. (I could see the driver inspecting his car afterwards, but luckily no damage seemed to have been caused.) I went back into the shop to see if I could buy the lids separately; the cashier told me she couldn't do anything, but to take the broken lids to customer services. So it was back out into the cold (-10° here today) and wind to fetch the lids from the car. The woman at customer services told me she couldn't do anything; I'd have to go to the kitchen department with the entire boxes. So back out to the car again... at which point I burst into tears! DH took over and came back in with me, although he just couldn't understand why I'd got so upset (OK, I admit it was a slight overreaction!). Anyway, once we'd finally located the woman responsible for the kitchen department, I managed to exchange the boxes without any problems. That will teach me to go out on a windy day. (Wind and I just don't mix. I'm still smarting from the time the wind blew the car door into another car - with expensive consequences.)

DS was invited to a birthday party this afternoon, but as soon as the door was answered by three girls in fancy dress (with face paint on too) he burst into tears and told me he didn't want to stay. I stayed there with him for a while, but it was obvious he wasn't going to change his mind so we came back home after about half an hour.

DD2 is shouting for me so I'd better go... no peace for the wicked. (And no peace with DS back home either.)

droitwichmummy · 04/02/2012 15:39

Oh yes - IT'S SNOWING!!!

sittinghippo · 04/02/2012 16:15

Ok, I feel compelled to get back into Flying, thanks to BlackCats thread in Chat today. Just the nudge I needed.
Did Fly with you all this time last year, but new baby and all that, it sort of went by the by. Have managed to do a twice weekly 'swish and swipe' so it hasn't all left me Grin

I'll try and do some back-reading for a catch up. Hope you don't mind me jumping in a week into the month.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 04/02/2012 16:34

Snowing here too (boo!). It's DS's birthday party tomorrow, don't want to cancel with snow like we had to do with DD a couple of years ago. We were supposed to be going to a football match this afternoon but it was postponed, actually quite glad, it really wouldn't have been much fun in this cold.

Welcome back Sittinghippo - just jump in, you'll soon get back in the swing of things.

BlueEyeshadow · 04/02/2012 16:40

Afternoon! DH has taken the boys to a birthday party so I've had a lovely quiet time doing bits of admin stuff etc. I've also finally updated my blog. I'm just hoping the snow will hold off until they get back...

So sorry you had to miss the christening justone .

Linzer - that sort of to-ing and fro-ing would drive me potty! Glad you got the boxes sorted in the end.

droitwichmummy · 04/02/2012 19:04

Thanks blue!

I have found the floor in the spare room and vaccuumed it. It was covered in long black cat hairs as it was DCat2's hiding place in the months before she went to the cat basket in the sky in December Sad

Mission is accomplished however as I was able to set up DSs game console in their on our old tv.

I have made tea and already cleared up and put the DW on. All it will need later is a quick wipe over the hob and sink Grin

See you tomorrow (still snowing!)

NickNacks · 04/02/2012 21:03

Glad your DS had a good birthday bitchy

Am exhausted and now sat on sofa with Brew in hand.

However the decluttering is going really well at the moment do j hope the housework will become easier and quicker each week. Definitely loving flying at the moment :)

LinzerTorte · 04/02/2012 21:18

Evening all,

Feeling much more positive now after a couple of glasses of Wine and a text from DD2's friend's mum, inviting the other two over on Monday morning as well. Was half-expecting DS not to want to go as he's going through a very clingy stage atm, but he said that he wants to as long as DD1 will be there.

We've now bought DS's school bag for September (we learnt our lesson with DD1, when a shop assistant told us that we were far too late waiting until June and that the school bag buying season is between Christmas and Easter). I'm still getting over the price, however. ?160! For a school bag! For that price, I'd quite like it to fly DS to school.

Thanks for the sympathy Blue; I feel a bit silly about it all now. But it was a combination of things - being annoyed with myself for not anticipating the wind, having to go out into the cold several times, not particularly looking forward to next week, still being annoyed about Friday's English lesson, etc.

Bitchy Glad your DS had a good day.

Sunday's links

Today's babystep is one that I would personally ignore is to write down what the negative voices in your head are telling you and turn it into something positive.

No mission again today. Instead, Sundays are the day to renew your spirit. I shall be doing so with a visit to M&S. Ah, the luxury of being able to go shopping on a Sunday, even if we need to go to another country to do so. Grin

NickNacks · 04/02/2012 21:24

Glad you're feeling better linzer and don't worry I would have cried at your storage box fiasco too.

DedalusDigglesPocketWatch · 04/02/2012 21:44

Hello Smile
Sorry, I have mostly read through, but still getting to know everyones names so struggling to remember who said what Blush

Feeling a bit Confused about some of the babysteps. I want actual tasks to do, not this write how you feel bollocks and put bloody post it notes all over the place Grin

Just trying to keep on with the laundry and washing up this weekend, hoping to do some decluttering come monday though.

Another thing I am trying out is doing a monthly shop, then just popping by the market for veg/eggs once a week and Iceland for milk as and when (it is the nearest decent sized shop) So have written a month long meal plan. I look like this Confused now!

dizzyday07 · 04/02/2012 21:49

Linzer - if your storage box incident had happened in this country (UK) our customer services would have told you "tough" and wouldn't have replaced them.

Yesterday on top of baby steps I got the washing load in and hung up. DH made dinner so there was mega scrubbing of pots to do!

He made today's too when I was out at a birthday party with DD, and although he huffed and puffed about having to wash tomato sauce from down off the walls, he did it and even washed the pots. Result!!

Tomorrow I have to iron his shirts/DD's uniform for the week but that's it. DH is off to visit his Dad on Monday so I'll probably fill my empty days with missions

LinzerTorte · 04/02/2012 21:51

Thanks Nick. Smile Glad to hear the decluttering is going well btw; I find it really motivates me FLYing-wise.

Dedalus I think most of ignore the post-it related babysteps (and similar), but don't worry - some less wishy-washy ones are on their way! A much more useful one is coming up tomorrow. Grin

Off to bed now - night all. Smile

LinzerTorte · 04/02/2012 21:56

dizzy I was fully expecting them to say "tough" here too as it really wasn't their fault (and customer service isn't great a lot of the time), so I was pleasantly surprised. Good news that your DH is making progress on the washing up front. Grin
