You are all going to be so disappointed. My hobby is horse riding. Ta da!! I really wasn't trying to be coy. I didn't realise you were all so nosey took such an interest in fellow thread members Grin I am totally mortified that it is not hang gliding or rally racing or anything a bit more adventurous Blush

those biscotti look lovely angel - let me know how you get on as I want to do some baking with DD1 next friday, assuming the oven gets fixed

I've been playing my christmas songs, read the girls "the night before christmas" so am starting to feel a bit festive. 15mins of xmas card writing now.

AngelsfromtherealmsofgloryDog · 09/12/2011 22:51

Biscotti cooked. They're tasty although they're supposed to be dunked in wine or coffee, I think.

Washing is hung out, washing up is done. Off to bed now, not very early but not too bad.

bessie26 · 09/12/2011 23:32

I wrote all the family xmas cards, came up to bed & then remembered I needed to order some personalised xmas cards (DMIL is "Grannie", and it is impossible to find a card that says "To Grannie") so have been playing on the hallmark site (£3 each & a 3-for-2 offer on at the moment, so also got cards made for GGPs too!)

Bed now. DH is out drinking with his golf friends, so no doubt I will be woken by his drunken snoring later!

BlackCatinaSantaHat · 10/12/2011 13:34

Hi all,
I guess parsnips might have a power cut unless she is just busy.
They were saying on the news that some of Scotland is without power and could be like that till Sunday.

BlackCatinaSantaHat · 10/12/2011 13:39

I still have lots of cards to write and presents to buy. I am going for a trim today (Part of my pampering myself). I think I may have to attempt a bit of shopping tomorrow all being well.
As for the housework I have only loaded the washing machine and done a bit of tidying.

What are you all up to?

AngelsfromtherealmsofgloryDog · 10/12/2011 14:34

Hello all.

Struggling today after yet another disturbed night. DH decided to have a loud phone converstaion just as I was trying to have a nap. Hmm

DS and DH put the Christmas tree up and I hoovered up the debris. Dunno what I need to do this afternoon.

bessie26 · 10/12/2011 22:02

Our tree went up today too Xmas Grin DH & DD1 went to the shops & came back with some naff lights to put in the window Next year I will have to make sure they go earlier & get something nicer and accidentally loose the gnome they came home with today

angels hope you get some sleep tonight. DD2 is on her third week of cold & last night was the first night I haven't had to get up with her - she did wake a few times (and woke me), but the clever girl managed to settle herself back to sleep ok.

Does anyone know anything about humidifiers? I'm thinking about getting one to help with colds, but am confused after reading too many reviews!

AngelsfromtherealmsofgloryDog · 10/12/2011 23:18

DS loves the Christmas lights. He now has a tantrum every time you suggest he leaves the living room. Hmm

He had an allergic reaction to some hazelnut butter this afternoon which is rather worrying (not a serious reaction, thankfully). He's been fine with other nuts before, but now we'll need to be nut-free just in case, especially me since I bf him. I have a huge tub of biscotti waiting to be eaten.

BlackCatinaSantaHat · 11/12/2011 08:01

We (DD and I) were up just before 7.00am today. would have liked a lie in but hey ho. DS is also up now.

Both my DC love the lights too and want them on all day.

I think I will really have to get a move on today and try to get some Christmas cards done. Also would like to get a bit of Christmas shopping done.
Then there's the housework, Washing, washing up, hoovering and also try to visit DM and her partner. A busy day I think!

bessie26 · 11/12/2011 10:29

angel the hazelnut thing sounds scary, and nut free at Xmas? What a pain!

We've told DD1 we're going to a shop soon to look at plants, but really we're going to see Santa & his (real live) reindeer!!!! Xmas Grin

carrots hope you guys are all ok, I was thinking about what we would do if we had no power earlier, we are SO lucky we have family fairly close by who we could stay with, I hope you are somewhere warm. Brew

roastparsnipsandbrusselsprouts · 11/12/2011 21:55

Hi Everyone! We are all fine thanks.

As you guessed, we lost power and it went on and on. We were going to dmil for the weekend and decided just to head off early as it was freezing and sooooo dark, even once the sun claimed to have come up. We got washed but I couldn't dry my hair (I have long hair) so I was even colder after that and felt really grotty as it went all curly. Dh was happy as he loves it curly though Xmas Hmm

We had a lovely weekend though and I am glad we went away as it seems the villages lost water too for some reason.

Since we got back we have done one load of washing and eaten the best part of a chocolate orange. Xmas Grin

I am glad everyone is ok. It is carnage here. Trees have come down on houses, Christmas lights were all over the place, fences are down etc. We are told there will be another storm on Tuesday and Friday as well!

I am impressed by everyone's Christmas efforts. Dmil had her tree up and it is a bit sad to come home to no tree here. I think I am allowed to do it now though as dh's birthday has been.

AngelsfromtherealmsofgloryDog · 11/12/2011 22:13

Och, Parsnips, that sounds eventful. Hope the coming storms aren't bad.

bessie, our diets are a nuisance - for the first time I can't eat dried fruit either (and am intolerant to lactose) so that rules out all the lovely Christmas baking really. Never mind, there are far worse problems to face in life. Xmas Smile

Did DD1 enjoy the reindeer?

How was your day BlackCat?

BlackCatinaSantaHat · 12/12/2011 09:30

Glad you are all o.k. Carrots.

We had a very busy day yesterday. DH and I took it in turns to "Sit on the nest" in the morning and look after the DC while the other one went out to do a bit of Christmas shopping.(Still have more to do). Then in the afternoon we went to visit DM, her DP was being very irritating as usual, I was doing my best to not fall out with him(Which is quite hard!).Xmas Hmm

Then we came home and I cooked dinner did baths and bedtime for the DC.
I managed to wrap one more presentXmas Grin. I am so determined to not be wrapping on Christmas eve!

The plan for today I think had better be writing the Christmas cards. I sent one batch last week but I still have plenty more to do.
Xmas Wink

BlackCatinaSantaHat · 12/12/2011 09:33

not to fall out with him Sorry if my English isn't very good, was up at 3.00am then 5.00am and stayed up.

BlackCatinaSantaHat · 12/12/2011 13:18

You have made good progress today Angel.

I'm afraid things are going quite slow here today. Have made lunch and eaten it DD is yet to eat hers Xmas Hmm. Have done no more.

DD is becoming more curious about the kitchen. Up until now we have had a safety gate on the kitchen mainly because the cat litter tray is out there but also cause the kitchen can be a dangerous place for small DC.
Anyway we are wondering about taking the gate off now as she wants to go out there more now and I know we will have to teach her all about what she can and can't touch.

Just wondered what you do Angel Bessie?
Do you let your young DC in the kitchen often and are you with them all the time while in there?
Or am I being over cautious?

bessie26 · 12/12/2011 15:07

glad you're all ok carrots

black how old is your DD? DD1 has always been able to come into the kitchen. I sorted the drawers out once she could walk so that they don't contain anything too scary (e.g. no sharp knives or small batteries), I only ever use the back burners on the cooker when she is around & make sure that any knives I am using are right back on the worktop where she can't reach.

She loves to "help" in the kitchen & often brings her step in so she can see what I'm upto on the worktop. I often pick her up & show her the pans when I am cooking to explain that they are hot. I also make her stand well away when I open the oven door when it worked

I'd better get on with the christmas cards as I have a few I want DD1 to "write" in for me.

DD2 slept through last night It's the first time in about a month & the longest EVER - 7:30pm to 7:00am (I had to wake her up!) ShockGrin

bessie26 · 12/12/2011 15:08

OMG! the oven people just phoned, they are coming to fix the oven on thursday!!!! Grin

roastparsnipsandbrusselsprouts · 12/12/2011 16:42

Yay! The oven people are finally coming to fix bessie's oven. Fingers crossed it gets sorted out! What will be the first thing you cook in it?

I have spent most of the morning at the hospital discussing ds with the psychologists. It has made me feel really blue as it is slowly dawning on me how slow this process is going to be and that they won't be able to fix everything. Poor ds Xmas Sad They now think he may also have ADHD as well as anxiety and depression and possible other things as well. Sometimes it can be really hard to listen to as he is a great wee boy and it all seems so negative.

I finally got the official feedback from the school (they wouldn't tell me what he had done) and so I now know what he did "wrong" at school. There have been three incidents, none of them nice but none of them really shocking either. It makes me wonder what the families of the "naughty" boys have to go through.

I also found out that he sometimes hides under things at school when he is frightened which, for some reason, has really upset me. I can't imagine being so scared that I have to hide at school. Xmas Sad

Anyway, by the time I had got the bus back from the hospital I only had time to do the weekly shop, make a phone call to an elderly friend and hang out another load of washing.

That is still some progress though isn't it?

Since I have collected dd I have been rescuing the hall, kitchen worktops and kitchen table. They are all much better but still not right. I will do another round again after this. I just needed to breathe for a while.

The plan is to tidy the kitchen some more, do a little ironing and to do some more Christmas cards tonight. Fingers crossed.

Oh! I will have to feed the troops somehow too. Xmas Grin

BlackCatinaSantaHat · 12/12/2011 21:17

Bessie glad they are coming to fix your oven at last.Xmas Smile

We have decide to take the gate off the kitchen as DD opened it herself a couple of times. I may have to do a bit of sorting through some of the kitchen cupboards and drawers so they are a bit safer. DH also keeps some tools in one cupboard so that may have to change.

Have done today:
Wrote some cards
sorted the under stairs cupboard
Been to shop and recycle bins
hanged wet washing
cooked dinner
had a tidy up after DC went to bed.

AngelsfromtherealmsofgloryDog · 12/12/2011 22:51

Parsnips, that's very Xmas Sad about your DS. Hiding under things sounds dreadful - not dreadful to do, but dreadful that he feels he has to.

BlackCat, we are very lax with kitchen safety. Blush The kitchen floor has always been DS's primary playground. I do put a tiny corner gate in front of the oven if I'm leaving him in the kitchen unattended and the overn is on. He can move it easily but it's just a reminder that the oven's hot. It helps that he's a fairly cautious & compliant child though.

bessie, hooray on the oven. And well done to your DD! Xmas Grin

Done:
To do:
Hemmed up DS's trousers x2 - 2 more to do.
Supermarket
Have a nap
Cook dinner
Hang out wet washing

Christmas decorations will have to wait.

I MUST go to bed!

bessie26 · 13/12/2011 11:20

arrrgh! I realised last night that DH is out on the piss a works do on thurs, and is out at band practice on weds, so will need to goto the supermarket tonight! I should have been doing a panicy meal plan & shopping list this morning, but took ages to get DD2 to nap, I HAD to vacuum (the hall was covered in cat fluff) and get our lunch on (minestrone soup - have never made it before!) and now of course I'm wasting time on here!

MUST FOCUS!

bessie26 · 13/12/2011 11:30

and parsnips, that is very sad that your DS feels he has to hide at school - is it from people or situations? I seem to remember you saying before you thought he might have ADHD, but then they said he didn't? I must admit I know nothing about that, but could that be why the anxiety gets to him so badly? Poor little fella, I think the fact that he is such a great boy despite all the crap he's been through in the last year, shows what a strong lad he is. Hope your DD is ok too?

Tomorrow I have to take DD2 swimming in the morning, then DD1 has her first (pre)school performance in the afternoon . I have the cooker man & the carpenter coming on thurs too, so I have to spend the evening cleaning the cooker (the hob is GRIM) and empty the cupboard under the stairs. I don't know when I'm going to get time to do any actual cleaning or tidying!

I want to bake some biscuits with DD1 on friday - any suggestions? She likes to eat the mix, so try to avoid making stuff with egg in!
