It's August - can the Fledglings keep FLYing with children underfoot?!

BlueEyeshadow · 29/07/2011 14:32

Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome to August's edition of the Fledgling Flyers,
Meine Damen, Mesdames, Ladies! (although any Herren, Messieurs and Gentlemen would be very welcome too, I'm sure, and apologies for the show tunes now lodged in everyone's heads ...)

If you're trying to keep out of CHAOS over the summer holidays, with the dear children creating havoc all around, then pull up a chair, roll up your sleeves and join in the fun.

Fly Lady's website is here, but we don't recommend signing up for the emails unless you want an ironically cluttered inbox. I'll post the links to the information for every day this month and try to keep up with all the chat.

There are babysteps to get you started on forming a routine, and missions to do once each room is decluttered and, as the Fat Fairy says, it's amazing what you can do in fifteen minutes. We'll be starting August in the entrance, front porch and dining room, and sifting the sense from the cutesy language. :)

I notice from the archive that it's the thread's second birthday so I'm sure there'll be cake as well as plenty of Brew, Biscuit and Wine - virtual, so no calories - along the way. Finally, a big thank you to CHB and Swan for leading us heroically through a hectic July! Grin

I see. I started the whole FLY thing about 2 years ago. I was on a thread with swan under my old posting name which was littleboyblue.

missjulie · 19/08/2011 19:46

Happy birthday feet, and happy anniversary to all!
So, done list - tidied spare room, 2 bathroom, DD's room, stairs, hall, our bedroom, sun lounge, living room, and various cupboards. Cleaned 2 bathrooms (minus floors), dusted living room, played lots etc with DD, fed, watered, cleaned out fireplace, re-stocked fire ready for next use (DH had it on last night!), caught up on-line with long overdue to do list.

still do to list - tidy utility room, kitchen, then 'do' all floors, water plants, put away about 5 loads of washing, and do another load of washing! Not sure if will get much of that done tonight, if not it be tomorrow!
Hope everyone is ok. Shall have a brief attempt of reading some posts later on!

LinzerTorte · 19/08/2011 20:04

Thanks, Toffee; I've missed chatting to you all over the last few weeks. I've been lurking but haven't had much time to post, as DH's arrival put paid to me MNing in the evenings.

Have finally finished packing, so off for a Brew now. No Wine in the house (DH and I bought my parents a bottle a couple of days ago out of desperation but it's all gone now), so I shall definitely be back for a virtual glass or three later. Grin

Canistaysane · 19/08/2011 20:21

Can I gatecrash?..... Have brought some Wine and nibbles!
Happy birthday Feetheart and happy anniversary all.Grin

Canistaysane · 19/08/2011 20:23

I have done almost nothing(housework) today.
although have been for a family day out so I suppose that's a good excuse!

Fuzzled · 19/08/2011 20:23

yawn

Busy day, but all my to-do list ta-da'd Smile plus my bed changed too (normally a weekend job, but one day early won't hurt? Confused)

Will join you in a virtual Wine - cheeky little merlot please! Would do a real one, but hubby is on call (IT not medicine) tonight and thus isn't drinking, and for some reason we only have really good bottles of wine, so I can't really justify opening one as it doesn't taste as nice 2nd day and I'd therefore have drink it all myself... not a good idea as since DS arrived, I'm a bit of a light-weight Blush

Anyways, nice to see you all and have a lovely evening! Smile

Fuzzled · 19/08/2011 20:25

Blast!

Forgot to add - happy birthday Feet and happy anniversary all! Grin

swanriver · 19/08/2011 20:42

Eeyore here.
very exhaustiing tiring day, only bright spot was watching Ds1's imitation of Jacob saying "Bella" after his Twilight watching and today New Moon..
have been hospitalising, bussing, cleaning, packing, glowering for ages..and still got loads to do.
Hopefully I can just close my eyes and fast forward to the fact that inevitably come dust or dervish I WILL BE ON THE PLANE TOMORROW AND caN'T DO ANYMORE HOUSEWORK.

bye.

BlueEyeshadow · 19/08/2011 22:41

Evening all! Better do a quick round-up before joining the party. I?ve already started on the whisky though, so we?ll see how it affects the coherence? Grin

Toffee was worrying that visitors might open the fridge and injured herself while cleaning. :( Hope the knee is OK.

Ellie had a marvellously concise list and achieved it. Well done!

swan was planning things around the hospital appointment ? hope it all went well and bon voyage for tomorrow. :) I like the idea of doing art with the boys so we have tons of material, but dread the practicalities and mess! In the end they did drawing with crayons, cutting and sticking. Managed to veto paint!

MissJ was wondering where to start but seems to have got a lot done.

Fuzzled was planning a little light FLYing and ta-da?d her to-do-list! Don?t worry too much about personals ? ?tis not compulsory and we do rabbit on a bit here!

Silvery was worn out spending money!

feet recommended peppermint creams and has signed up for a half-marathon. Shock Happy Birthday!

SC was having a frustrating morning and wishing people would learn from history. I do hope you finally get your holiday! I was making mincemeat in August partly to let it get really boozy flavoursome and partly to use up a load of cooking apples!

WhoKnows noticed the thread?s anniversary and prompted the party!

Dragons also had an eminently succinct list. Make sure you look after yourself!

Nettie has been blackberrying (me too!) and is off out tonight. Have fun. :)

Linzer is packing again and counting the weeks!

CanIstay crashed the party ? hey, all welcome really! Family day out definitely a good excuse.

We had a pretty good day, on the whole. DS1 very pleased with his new haircut and very good once we got there ? hairdresser also brilliant at distracting him. I did a few hotspots and my mending this morning but this afternoon disappeared. DS2 wouldn?t nap so we popped out to the shops in the hope that he?d sleep in the pushchair. Came back 2 1/4 hours later with him still wide awake! Picked more blackberries on the way home.

My parents are coming up tomorrow so I?m hoping DH will take the boys to the shops so I can blitz the house. Just realised I haven?t even made up the spare bed! Am also hoping that various bits of junk in here will have been taken away by freeglers by then?

Anyway, links:
Babystep: include laundry in your routines.
No mission because it?s the weekend. Enjoy your family fun days.

Now, has anyone got any lovely unhealthy party food to soak up the whisky??

Toffeefudgecake · 19/08/2011 23:10

I have some crisps, Blue - will that do?

I have finally finished un-pigstying the house. This involved removing a lot of clutter upstairs to our bedroom - I hope the visitors don't want a tour of the house.

Have to get up early tomorrow to finish tidying. Decluttering is finished, but I still have to hoover the carpets and polish the front door (looking embarassingly cobwebby today). Might not have time to post tomorrow, so hope you all have a lovely, restful Saturday.

Fuzzled · 20/08/2011 07:01

Morning!

Up early and wishing swan happy flights!

No real flying today as it's the weekend - just keeping on top of the house. May try to do a bit of tidying in the hellhole study come spare room. Trouble is, most of the crap is IT related and thus belongs to DH - so I can't really declutter as 3 years later I get "have you seen the insert obscure technical name here". When pressed for a description I realise with a sinking heart that it's the thing I threw out as it had been gathering dust for years Blush

Also hope to be back using our ensuite this weekend after DH's sealant exploits. I cleaned the shower thoroughly yesterday (and I think forgot to add it to my ta-da list!) so today it's the rest of the room and a good Hoover - I so need to persuade DH into lino Angry. Also, and as a link, I'll probably swish and swipe our bedroom as I have the Hoover in there anyways.

Help! That sounds like a lot when I write it down. And there's there a bit of shopping in our local town and meal preparing...

OMG - I'm a FLYing addict ain't I? Is there a 10 step babysteps programme to get help?! Grin

Have a good day y'all Wink

BlueEyeshadow · 20/08/2011 08:07

Morning all! Thanks for the crisps Toffee - just the thing. :)

Fortunately there isn't too much to tidy this morning but just found myself cleaning utility room windows cos the sunlight was showing up where DH squished flying ants on them Angry [yuk!]

I see what you mean Grin

I don't think I've managed to do all of my saturday jobs on a saturday for a long time. I knew coming back to the thread would get me back in line Grin

Makingchanges · 20/08/2011 15:06

Afternoon all

I am back from my 3 day mini caravan holiday and pleased to be here. Me and caravans really don't mix and I have been a little bad temptered the last few mornings. (Hate not having room to move, all being in one room and having tp put bed away in the morning). DD has loved it though as we have been out on our bikes (Although I broke mine Sad ) and spent an hour in the park yesterday, had fish and chips and a couple of late nights.

Anyway so far I have

  • packed up our belongings from the caravan and unpacked them here
  • cleaned the caravan and unplugged /cleaned out everything to be left
  • Watched two dvds with DD
  • Wrapped birthday present and deposited dd at birthday party (Which is next door which although it is noisy, means a few child free hours for me.

With my child free hours I am going to

  • Tidy kitchen - DH was here and I think is allergic to tidying!!
  • Washing x 3
  • Hoover downstairs
  • Online shopping for a new bike - I have a rusty one at home and a newish one at the caravan but this has dodgy gears, dodgy breaks, a pedal that keeps falling off and is too big for me so I'm going to treat myself to a new bike now we have bought a bike attachment for DDs bike to fit onto ours and hopefully we will get out on them more if I feel like I'm not going to kill myself on one. DH has agreed to help me to pick one up (as I can't lift a bike onto the bike rack on my car) so I'm thinking if I get a good idea of what I want I may get to the sales tomorrow.
  • Parcel up bookclub book that finished reading whilst on holiday and add comments online
  • Sort through DDs uniform and throw away ones that don't fit
  • Print photo for photo frame for DDs room of her and best friend and find a photo to get blown up for own room of our wedding day.

Sorry thats a really long and self-indulgent post. Will try and catch up later. Am off tonight to DH cousins party to celebrate the end to his army training and him being assigned to his battalion. We'll be all partied out.

Back later

missjulie · 20/08/2011 22:04

So, productive day! :) Got everything done that i wished to! Tided utility room and kitchen, washed 2 loads washing then put away 7 loads of dry washing :) :) :), brushed, hoovered, mopped, stuff to garage, tidied car, watered plants. Played lots with DD, helped her climb the stairs (only just started this!!! :) ), fed, watered, DD in bed, sat outside on the trampolene drinking a baileys and watching the beautiful sky! - had a few bounces, but as i had changed into my pjs was not a good idea

Hope everyone has had a good day! :)

Much quieter day today!

Feeling very Grin because my mum commented on how tidy everything was and how she could see how much work I'd been doing on it. Pretty exhausted by the end of the day, especially with the boys being more than a little over-excited!

Silvery - they did manage to borrow some more books after lengthy discussions with the librarian ended up with DS1 getting a new library card! Well done on ticking off the whole list!

Fuzzled - I feel your pain re technical crap. We've got a whole bag of random cables under the desk and old modems etc under the spare bed!

SC name-changed back again and was getting DD organised for school.

MissJ was on a go slow and had a lot to do. Hope you got some energy back!

Nettie was trying to avoid making lunch and going visiting. Hope you enjoy the barn dance - haven't been to one for years.

MC is back from caravanning. Enjoy your new bike and the party!

So, babystep: Check out Ask Flylady. I've never done this. Is it useful??

Tomorrow is "renew your spirit day"... Better be off and back to family!

OP posts:
BlueEyeshadow · 20/08/2011 22:10

X-post - Yay MissJulie! Glad you had such a good day. Yikes re braless trampolining though! Shock

OP posts:
DancingIceDragons · 21/08/2011 01:44

Totally unproductive day.

That babystep is new. it used to be read the bottom of an email or something like that.

However, on a more serious note this med combo is messing me up fairly well so don't expect much flying to be done for the next week or so whilst on it. Hopefully though it is fixing the ankle speedily and will mean a faster recovery. And then I have plans to get sorted. I have plans to tackle the babysteps properally as of september when ds is back in school and a proper routine can be established. Until then I shall be permeantly found in the naughty corner and anything that gets done is a definet bonus.

Have fabulous days tomo. Renew you spirit and family fun for all.

night.
