It's August - can the Fledglings keep FLYing with children underfoot?!

BlueEyeshadow · 29/07/2011 14:32

Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome to August's edition of the Fledgling Flyers,
Meine Damen, Mesdames, Ladies! (although any Herren, Messieurs and Gentlemen would be very welcome too, I'm sure, and apologies for the show tunes now lodged in everyone's heads ...)

If you're trying to keep out of CHAOS over the summer holidays, with the dear children creating havoc all around, then pull up a chair, roll up your sleeves and join in the fun.

Fly Lady's website is here, but we don't recommend signing up for the emails unless you want an ironically cluttered inbox. I'll post the links to the information for every day this month and try to keep up with all the chat.

There are babysteps to get you started on forming a routine, and missions to do once each room is decluttered and, as the Fat Fairy says, it's amazing what you can do in fifteen minutes. We'll be starting August in the entrance, front porch and dining room, and sifting the sense from the cutesy language. :)

I notice from the archive that it's the thread's second birthday so I'm sure there'll be cake as well as plenty of Brew, Biscuit and Wine - virtual, so no calories - along the way. Finally, a big thank you to CHB and Swan for leading us heroically through a hectic July! Grin

Keep going Ellie (I like the mission statement!)

Wow - what a magnificent round-up Blue (and thanks for recipes ideas!!) Impressively organised of you to be making mincemeat in August!

You are on a roll today Toffee! Take care of that knee though ...

Sorry to hear that your dh is away again for so long MissJ but welcome back to the thread

Swan thank you for Franzen recommendation. I've been hesitating over it - but will definitely purchase now.

I do lots of arts and crafts with dd (selfish motivation because I love it) but it's always a bit of a nightmare scenario when friends come to play because they really enjoy it (and ask to do it) but dd is bored because she has done so much - cue me pleading with her to be sociable and stay at the table and not stomp off!!

Hope all goes well at hosp.

Swan and Ellie Agree with you about the more gruesome bits of history btw - but just wish people would study history more (used to copy-edit history books in a former life). I'm convinced that the war in Afghanistan would not have gone ahead if people had looked at what had happened before - history just repeats itself over and over again. Same with Greek non-payment of debts (no offense intended to any Greeks who may be lurking!).

[Hands paracetemol over to Silvery]

Huge waves to Fuzzled (lovely post this morning - don't worry about personals)

Waves to PA and anyone else I've missed

Bit of a frustrating morning. It has now been decided that we will go on holiday on Monday but seeing doc this afternoon first (cardiologist and regular gp both away on holiday though).

Also, spent entire week doing laundry in anticipation of visit of fortnightly ironing lady and, owing to a stupid mis-communication which was entirely my fault, realised that she isn't coming! Will just have to buckle down to it myself.

Ta da
Entire ground floor tidied, hoovered, mopped, and dusted.
Dyed barnet fayre

To do
Clean bathroom
Tidy and clean boudoir
6 paniers of ironing!!!

Stillchuckingit · 19/08/2011 12:46

Oops, I namechanged back by mistake.

Stillchuckingit · 19/08/2011 12:48

Oh dear

I think that should have been "offence" not "offense" (copy-editor - moi?)

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 19/08/2011 12:52

No time to chat today, but it has just occurred to me that the thread has been going for two years now, congratulations Thread! What a lovely place it has turned out to be [loved up emoticon].

DancingIceDragons · 19/08/2011 12:53

Morning.

There are always spare cushions, blankets duvets etc in the naughty corner. all are welcom including those who are succeeding.

Right I guess now that i am awake I suppose i should move. stupidly tired and didnt want to get up when the alarm went though.

Ankle is feeling better enough for me want to consider going training. which my head says would be stupid but my heart says just do it.

List for today:
get to point of functioning
Don't do anything too stupid
laundry
early night.

Fuzzled · 19/08/2011 13:00

Ooooh part-ay!!!! Grin

Just don't ask me to do balloons.... I can almost pass out inflating them! Blush

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 19/08/2011 13:19

Party Party Party!

Toffeefudgecake · 19/08/2011 13:30

I like the party idea, Dancing Smile. It could be a party for the thread's two-year anniversary (thanks for that, WhoKnows).

Still - was going to get my red pen out for 'offense' but you beat me to it Wink.

Ellie - Envy that your house is no longer a pigsty. Mine is. But the kitchen is beautiful!

Fuzzled - I'll bring a pump for the balloons, don't worry.

Am being seriously slowed down by this leg business. It's not my knee, after all, it's my calf. Sorry to whinge, but it's irritating. Have taken Ibuprofen but still have to limp everywhere. Anyway, I have managed to put away about half the washing, clean the bathroom and get DS1 to make his bed. Just about to serve lunch (overdone pizza Hmm), then we are going out with friends, which is good because the boys are currently having a very loud playfight (which includes standing on each other) and clearly need to get out. I feel really bad that they have been stuck in all morning, so getting them out will appease my conscience. Plus, I can have a good chat with my friend.

Toffeefudgecake · 19/08/2011 13:34

Doh! The two-year anniversary is why you're throwing a party, isn't it, Dancing? I'm so slow sometimes Blush.

feetheart · 19/08/2011 13:39

Def up for party - its my birthday today :o

Have just done very mad will-hit-a-big-birthday-next-year thing and signed up for Silverstone Half-Marathon in March ShockShock Haven't even done a 10k yet though have one planned in October.
Feeling a little light-headed :)

DS has friend round, DD is at her friend's (usual child-swap scenario) and I am avoiding anything vaguely Flying related. Might potter in garden as DC blowing bubbles.

feetheart · 19/08/2011 13:42

I can bring nibbles.

And pineapple - got Lakeland pineapple corer/slicer for my birthday and need to play practice :)

Toffeefudgecake · 19/08/2011 13:48

Happy Birthday, Feet.

I've hung balloons up in the Naughty Corner. Just off out, but will be back later to join in the party! I'll bring booze.

Smile
WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 19/08/2011 13:58

Ooh, we've got one of those Feet - tis very good. Happy Birthday! I went to Lakeland at the weekend and came back with a bag full of lovely bits and pieces which are going to clutter up my kitchen drawers transform my house.

Fuzzled · 19/08/2011 14:15

The Lakeland catalog should be regarded as porn for your house... Grin

However, their Oven Mate paint on goo is brilliant! (And I don't just go in for their mango flavour liquorice, honest Grin)

DancingIceDragons · 19/08/2011 15:04

Happy Birthday Feet

Right really must start tackling that to do list Blush
Laundry is washing the first load as the trouser i want to wear later were still dry in the washing machine as i forgot to push to on button yesterday Least i have time to get them washed and dry before needing to go out at 5:30pm. Going to be good about training. Ankle is not as good as i initially thought. Better is progress though.

NettieSpaghetti · 19/08/2011 16:14

Happy anniversary all!

(Back after dinner and a bit more Flylady stuff)

SilveryMoon · 19/08/2011 17:37

Cor, look at all this posting you've been doing today! No one got any homes to clean? Wink Grin
Happy birthday feet
Dragons What's the party in aid of? I'm not sure I can come, all partied out Smile
I also read all posts, but don't know what to say, or if I should comment on the more personal stuff, being a newbie to the thread and all.
Spent 5 hours in town today, so now the dc's are in a foul mood, I'm tired, dp's working late, again and I want to eat chocolate and catch up with Grey's Anatomy.

Haven't done much around the flat, might do a 15min potter-about, but won't do much. I'm not even gonna wash up Blush

Toffeefudgecake · 19/08/2011 17:40

You should definitely join the party in the Naughty Corner, Silvery - sounds like you need it. All are invited.

SilveryMoon · 19/08/2011 17:47

Thanks Toffee Think I may just do that. Smile

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 19/08/2011 17:53

Silvery - Party is because the thread (with it's predecessors) is two years old this month (not sure of the exact date) turns out it is also Feetheart's birthday, so a double celebration.

LinzerTorte · 19/08/2011 18:54

Just interrupting my packing (it seems like I'm taking back about ten times as much as I brought over) to say happy birthday to feetheart and, of course, to wish the thread a very happy second birthday. Grin We definitely have an excuse for party tonight!

I hope to be back to FLYing next week, although it may be a little tricky with the DC around. (Seven weeks down, two to go.) At least it's about 15° hotter at home than it is here, so hopefully I'll be able to throw them out into the garden as much as possible. Even if I have to stay outside with them half the time, at least they're not indoors making a mess.

Toffeefudgecake · 19/08/2011 19:22

Welcome back to the thread, Linzer - see you at the party later!

DH is looking after DS2 whilst I tackle the dining room. We are now definitely having visitors tomorrow and the downstairs still looks like a pigsty. Am dealing with it step by step and trying not to panic.

Will need some Wine later.
