This is funny! My SIL is much more "stand and fight" with MIL and they have a very turbulent relationship. If MIL swoops in with SIL, SIL always says "butt out". I can be irritated by the swooping, but TBH, in the grand scheme, I'd rather pick my fights when they really matter rather than all the time. As a result, SIL and MIL are constantly at loggerheads, I rarely am, but I have to bite my tongue regularly, which can leave me feeling a bit wimpy, but I just cannot bear confrontation!! I'd rather be a silent wimp, in this particular instance, than "at war" like SIL/MIL generally are.

Hey ho. Right, just waiting for a call, then off to late pick up from school and running around half of Essex doing this that and the other!

Anon - i think my SIL makes it harder for herself as she backs away from MIL, who then tries to get closer to her, etc etc - i have sat and watched the pair of them physically move across the room, it's v funny!
I tend to approach her differently, eg when i get to her house i hand over baby and let her get on with it (within reason), SIL tends to cling onto her babies and not 'offer' cuddles with them.

Morning! JKS - that is one of the major bones of contention between MIL and SIL - direct access to SIL's DC, almost literally as you describe. She did all attachment parenting thing which meant that a) she was not prepared to let go ever of either of her children in the early years and b) they did not want to leave her even for a split second, even to their father. MIL thought this was a load of old clap trap, tried the direct approach (ie. go in and grab "don't worry they'll soon get used to it") which meant that SIL and MIL would immediate start rowing, and the children would immediately start crying and it was always a complete disaster. AND they are both very stubborn so didn't budge half an inch! For me, life is just too short! but each to their own of course.

Morning :) Still in bed here with a Brew

JKS - good idea to get the nanny involved a bit more in that week - will DH be around more after that? I wouldn't want my MIL here if there was the prospect of me going into labour and wanting to birth at home either!! Grin

Anon - see I think that gives APs a bad name in lots of ways. One of my friends does AP, and their Dad is just as involved as she is, and the DCs are very well socialised and confident - which is I believe the whole point of doing it! Sounds more like control-freakery from your SIL WinkGrin

The jury's out with me on AP, but I have very limited experience, so I don't write it off at all. Put it this way. My niece (nearly 4) has never ever spoken to me. I'd take it personally, if it weren't for the fact that she doesn't actually speak to anyone other than her mum.

Though, mini breakthrough just this week. For the first time ever (and I see them a lot!) she actually approached my DC of her own free will and looked really pleased to see them.

The key difference? SIL wasn't there, so DN was a free agent! She nearly spoke to me, opened her mouth, but then thought, oo, no, I don't do that! And promptly shut it again. Never mind. One day. She has now spoken to MIL a few times, so maybe my turn is approaching.

Wink on the control freakery

She goes to pre school a couple of mornings a week and I know to start with it was a complete nightmare, but think it is ok now, not sure really TBH, I stay well out of it, though suspect MIL has something to say on the subject! Things are clearly improving, as MIL was allowed to pick up DN from pre school yesterday, hence us seeing DN on her own. But still getting the silent treatment!

Anyway, quite relieved that DH is safely on his nice comfortable BA flight OUT of the middle east for the last time. Not his territory any more! Smile

Only doing a little list. BY the end of the week I mainly need Brew.

gardening
washing
ironing
library
playgroup
Do letters with daughter
Sort out change jar
Change her bed
Clean kitchen floor
Hoover

I think that will do.

I had to stop for Brew & cake halfway through jobs!

Anon/re AP - i know nothing about AP, but i do know i want to have confident, independent children. And i get all twitchy when other people's kids are all clingy & whiny.
SIL i doubt follows any kind of plan with her DC but her eldest was v clingy & i've never warmed to him. He also made my DS1 & their 2nd (a DD) look terribly wild & naughty as they are both 'independent spirits' Grin

Feeling aggravated after MW appt - had to see the younger one of the pair (and i didn't warm to her months ago when i first saw her) - she started going on about taking weekly bloods if i want an HBAC Hmm & extra 'deviation from protocol' paperwork double Hmm.
The nicer older one never mentioned any of this crap.
I have declined the blood-sucking as she couldn't give me a decent reason for it!
And i was fairly assertive about only wanting supportive MWs in my house when it comes to it, so think she knows where i stand, lol!

Ali - i know re the census, have filled in what i can for now and hope baby isn't here by the 27th!
Hmm, it turns out the friend is a smoker. Now she has been very good and gone outside to smoke every time without even having to be told or anything. I suspect from DH's silence on the topic that he knew this.

Meanwhile DH has taken one of the cats to the vets - appeared with an injury 2 days ago but has been v wary of coming near me, i thought he was fine as he has been happier last night/this morning, but DH thinks the injury looks v bad.

Totally drawn to the tv coverage about Japan, it's awful but can't turn it off.

Ooh I would hate that! Stinky smokey person in my house, yuck! I am paranoid about chemical remains on clothes etc etc. My BIL smokes but he never smokes when they are here because he knows me feelings on it. Grin

MIL and S-FIL due here for lunch shortly. I've had a lazy morning, DH has done a few little DIY jobs and put the hoover round.
We are going to have an afternoon in front of the rugby once PILs are gone - I soooo want to have several a beer!
