Remember Remember, Fledglings Fly through November

DidEinsteinsMum · 28/10/2010 23:58

Welcome to the November Fledgling Flying thread.

From the 1st of the month we shall be decluttering and taming the chaos using baby steps, missions and zones. A great big thank you to MrsDinky who looked after us last month.

We are not strict followers of the fat fairy and take some of the babysteps wearing shoes indoors with a pinch of salt. Also advise against signing up for the fairy's emails.

All are welcome, jump on board for one of our three methods of chaos attack:

  1. Baby steps
  2. Baby steps and 15mins decluttering in current zone
  3. Re-inforce the baby steps and daily mission

This month the fat fairy is gearing up for the feastive period. So I shall also post the christmas mission for those who wish are brave enough to look.

In here the motto is:

*"No perfection! Do what you can, but be realistic about what you can do."

Happy flying.

Linzer - my DH has started saying, "If you spent less time on MN you'd get more done...." Can't imagine what he means Wink.

Ooo - Christmas card list. Haven't done that yet, although I have bought the cards [competitive emoticon].

Scout - we can take phone books to the dump for recycling here, so the answer is 'yes'.

Hi Geeky. It works if you do it!

Have managed to get through the main things on my list today, but have done absolutely no housework. Still haven't put Hallowe'en stuff away yet either and was going to do that yesterday. How come I have finally reached the stage when both boys are at school and I still don't seem to have enough hours in the day? Confused

swanriver · 02/11/2010 18:10

Piano practice done
supervised homework and music practice x 2 done
cooked supper done
errand to pick up violin music done
bought food for the week except bread milk etc done

NOW
clear Halloween pile
wash up first instalment of supper

out tonight to PTA so a bit of incentive to get cracking..

MiniMarmite · 02/11/2010 21:25

Happy birthday for yesterday PMPY and hope you are feeling better DID.

I think I got a reasonable amount done today, dinner was a bit of disaster but lovely DS and DH still sat there saying 'yum', bless them!

x

DidEinsteinsMum · 02/11/2010 22:10

Evening. right i have been trying to find the wonderful daily reminders that MrsD linked for us. In the process I have found some usefull crap that might be of interest to a few:
flying when pregnant
flying with a newborn
flying with a preschooler
there are more but i think these might be the ones that are most useful ignored feel free to ignore Grin

Now getting back to the main focus. Tomorrow's babystep is doing what we have done So basically tomo you are expected to shine your sink and get fully dressed for the day straight away.

We are still in the hall, porch and dining room so either decluttering in here or Wednesday's mission

The christmas missions are starting to gather pace. But as a friend reminded me Thanks giving is no long away and the preparations for christmas and thanks giving are getting under full swing. Wednesday's christmas mission here

Wednesday is antiprocrastination day. So put on that music and boogy whilst you declutter or do that mission!

BAck in a mo with round up.

MrsDinky · 02/11/2010 23:09

Wednesday Reminders

DID I found the easiest thing was to save 4 Flylady pages as Favourites, the babysteps front page, mission, reminders and sneak peak ones. The reminders you need to change the last digit in the URL every day, ie 1 for Monday, 2 for Tuesday etc.

DidEinsteinsMum · 02/11/2010 23:16

Scout returned from her journies and is a lover of the 27 fling boogie, but would like to rename it 50 fling boogie.

feetheart beat us all out of bed and was uber productive but is probably suffering from a very long day

Toffee glad that Mil's sudden illness is easily diagnosed. Hopefully she is being well looked after and on the road to recovery.

MrsFromage - Just to echo, do not be overwhelmed by the lists. 1. the same list will often appear 2. I only post a short list and add more to it so it looks like i am being more productive then planed and dont have to feel guilty about not getting as much done as i hoped 3. It is the start of the month and christmas is creeping closer so motivation is fairly high atm.

linzer proved that the early bird catches the worm and got a good deal on winter boots and ice skates.

I managed to confuse bob DidEin and Dancing ice dragons are the same person. Dem or did but the same person Smile. Hope dd has a peaceful night and does try to keep you on your toes tonight. Could we place an order for banana cake for the thread?

Ellie started the day with high hopes of being productive.

Nettie is beginning to scare us all with her christmas preparations. Seriously christmas cards at the beginning of November? What postal deadlines are you working to? Or should that be how many of the bloody cards do you have to write?

Sylvia discovered her desk and did the 27 fling boogie.

geeky has a long list that will take too long to type. Hope you managed to get some of it done. BTW how many weird looks did you get given whilst you was cleaning your front door?

MrsD made a lovely offer to do the roundups and given very good advice for looking after the thread. Thank you!!

Top flyer goes to highlighter, who has two poorly dc and still has managed to fly. And been doing the 27 fling boogie with flourish.

Swan has had a lot of music practice going on and will be glad to be shot of the halloween decorations and tatt.

Systemsaddict was another early riser and has very enthusiastically tackled flying, making good progress.

Sittinghippo started the flylady way and has done the babysteps plus swish and swipe. No burn out for her!

PMPY made an appearance and has been flying, although is currently being overtaken by paid work. Hope you had a lovely day yesterday!

MM has a fabulous family who loved her cooking disaster.

Waves to anyone she has missed, also sending kind thoughts in PA's direction.

Evening everyone else,

Today I have managed the following

Morning routine
Hoover upstairs and down
Make crumpets - delicious
Spend afternoon helping at school
Attend meeting at school
Take DCs to tennis and ballet
Feed everyone
Watch Final of Masterchef - the best chef won IMO.
Catch up wth a few admin bits and bobs
Ignore mission - oops
Put some stuff in the loft and get a few other things down, including winter duvet
Lots of time reading with DCs
Polish all the school shoes, which are trashed again after only two days, how do they do that?

DID - thank you, I am feeling much better now, hope you are recovering too

MiniM - it's usually the other way round in our house, I make a lovely dinner and they all sit there saying "yuck".

Swan/Toffee - I keep finding plastic skeletons etc all over the house too.

Scout - wher I live we have recently been told we can now put our phone books in the paper recycling bin but I guess it varies from area to area.

Geekygiraffe - lovely, another baby on the way, this thread has a lot of bumps in it at the moment!

Sylvia - great list, well done!

Going to stop there as I have just noticed how late it is, waves microfibre cloth at everyone else, night night.

systemsaddict · 02/11/2010 23:42

Paid for my early start by crashing out on the sofa after the usual screaming battle of wills to get dd to stay in her cot [bleary eyed emoticon]

  • prep cheque to pay in sort of - found cheque and paying in slips to take to work tomorrow
  • scoop cat litter done
  • put clean washing away haven't but did fold another load so now I have 2 baskets of clean
  • tidy up downstairs didn't do too knackered!

but I did load the dishwasher, my sole nod to an unshakeable before-bed routine. Ooh and wiped the dining room table - this is actually a result as I always forget this (out of sight out of mind) and poor kids often eat breakfast surrounded by detritus of dinner. Oops.

So tomorrow morning: need to

  • tidy up downstairs
  • put clean washing away
  • do one thing towards Christmas
swanriver · 03/11/2010 00:15

stillhaven't managed to hoover the bedrooms Blush just thought I'd mention that if anyone is feeling depressed and neglectful...no need Grin

booked tickets to Eire for Xmas though, cue massive fight with dh, who eventually booked them for me after consulting train timetable Hmm

Attended various meetings locally

but otherwise house is as it was at 6.00pm [sigh]

Have found lost PE kit (it belongs to school, special stuff, so that's lucky Blush it was hanging up on the airer in the second bathroom, always a mistake to have too many loads of washing and too many bathrooms Hmm

elliepac · 03/11/2010 06:51

Well, as our venerable leader said, i had high hopes of being productive but sod all happened apart from putting a washload in. Today will be better !

NettieSnowBalls · 03/11/2010 07:09

systems love dining table scenario sounds just like our house
mrsd wow crumpets sound delicious! It's not an app it's just a mobile phone version. Should work on iPad too.

Waving madly at everyone as must list post.

Avoid shouting and Loosing rag at dc too lateBlush ds been running round house since 5.30 Angry
Ship them to nursery
Me work
Christmas cards
Laundry x infinity!
Put clothes away
Wrap birthday presents ready for posting or party
Send belated birthday cards
Make bread rolls

Hope you all have brill day. propable too busy so bbl Gonna sneak back on in workGrin

LinzerTorte · 03/11/2010 09:25

The four-day weekend is finally over and I wish I could say I'd been rushing round the house like a madwoman bringing order to chaos, but a sore throat and the gloomy weather have left me feeling distinctly uninspired! I have been plodding on through my list though, and have amazingly finished my morning routine with a few hours to spare.

Nettie Are you actually sending Christmas cards? I think we need a thread competition for the first card sent/received! I'm actually about to start writing to a friend on Christmas stationery (although I know it's unlikely I'll finish the letter before the end of November), have located at least some of our Christmas cards and have printed out my list, so am feeling much more organised than usual!

Done so far today:
Taken snack for whole class into Kindergarten
Bought Kindergarten lunch tickets
Posted letters
Prepared English lesson
Morning routine

Still to do:
15 min decluttering x2
Christmas missions x2
English lesson
Afternoon and evening routines
Travel insurance
Pay holiday deposit

Am also waiting for some work, which is due to arrive today and needs to be finished by Friday. As usual, I expect it will arrive around midday so I have no chance of starting it until this evening. So frustrating to think I could have spent four hours this morning working on it. Oh well, I suppose I ought to be grateful that I have paid work at all as the last few weeks (if not months) have been so quiet work-wise.

optimisticmumma · 03/11/2010 09:31

Am I OK to come back to the fold, albeit three days late?????

Real life has got in the way in the Optimistic household since the summer so no flying for me! I really, really need to get my act together now things have settled down a bit. I have taken a big step back from work, DS1s UCAS form is in and we think we've found DD a new school for 6th form so all good! Luckily DH and DS2 are just trotting along nicely!!

Today:

Take DS1 in to school with neurofen and accompanying letter to take TSA exam (he managed to get a nasty eye injury during rugby on Monday resulting in a trip to minor injuries and 'glue'!!) done
Get DD up who is still on half term and take to shopping centre justabouttodo
Tackle Mount Ironmore
Get some food in for supper!
Do online Tesco shop

There's no point in adding any more as the ironing is going to take at least three hours - yikes!!!
Hope you all have a lovely day - sunny here so that's always a good start...

SylviaPankhurst · 03/11/2010 09:49

Thanks for the round up DID it makes it much easier as by the time I come to write I have forgotten.

Today

Mop kitchen and bathroom floors
Rubbish ready for collection including cat tray
Tidy
15 minutes de clutter study

I may not get any more time as I also have

Interview at job centre re being self employed
See mum and take books back to library
Cello lesson chauffeur
Parents evening at 4.30
Child friend coming for dinner
Children do a half day on Wednesday as well

feetheart · 03/11/2010 11:02

Thankfully not such an early start this morning.
Luckily I didn't flag too much yesterday and was quite productive. Discovered that if I have lunch early-ish then afternoon seems much longer and I get more done Hmm

DEM - thanks for round up and links inspite of feeling poorly

MrsD - thanks for no Masterchef spoiler. Caught up with Monday's last night and looking forward to seeing final tonight! DH and I will miss it when it finishes - think 'ordinary' one starts about Jan time.
Is it the first time you have made crumpets? Think we saw it on Hairy Bikers and DC were very keen to have a go. Bought rings but haven't used them yet - you reminded me.

Systems - I like the 'do one thing towards Christmas' idea, think I could cope with that. Todays will be 'Book the bl**dy flights' which I should have done ages ago and will now pay through the nose for Angry

Today's list so far:

  • Morning routine - done
  • Work - done a bit but can't get onto Sage, think network is playing up and that's DH's area (he is the IT consultant after all)
  • Tax car once DH has brought it back with its MOT - both overdue Blush
  • Make quiche for dinner
  • Put sofa back together - finally dry due to heating and gas fire on last night - cats thought they had died and gone to heaven Grin
  • Hoover living room
  • 15mins paperwork sorting as need to find Bookers card
  • Book flights

See how far I get with that.

DidEinsteinsMum · 03/11/2010 11:15

Welcome back OM!!!
Am feeling slightly better today, have had my hair cut and have stocked up on caffine and chocolate.

As for first christmas card. Hah I win that already I had my first for the year in august! admittly it was because the sender had forgotten to sent both it and the birthday cards and thought fuck bought and written I am sending them anyway. :) this is why we get on so well. We are as disorganised as each other.

Hoping you all have productive days!

OP posts:
geekygiraffe · 03/11/2010 12:11

haha, me and one of my friends give each other bday and xmas presents as and when - we never make the official dates! maybe I'll start applying that to cards too - although a simpler approach would be not to send any!

elliepac · 03/11/2010 13:31

OM GrinGrin. How blardy lovely to see you!

systemsaddict · 03/11/2010 13:35

Slightly better morning this morning, awake at 6.10 which is a bit more civilized - and kids slept till after 7 again oh joy! so:

  • put clean laundry away done
  • tidied up downstairs done! although I hated every second of doing it and dragged around moaning inwardly, but it does look miles better. Tidying is my hardest thing. Also:
  • emptied dishwasher
  • put a load of laundry on and delegated hanging it up to dp

Tonight:

  • do one Christmas thing
  • tidy up one child's bedroom
