Remember Remember, Fledglings Fly through November

DidEinsteinsMum · 28/10/2010 23:58

Welcome to the November Fledgling Flying thread.

From the 1st of the month we shall be decluttering and taming the chaos using baby steps, missions and zones. A great big thank you to MrsDinky who looked after us last month.

We are not strict followers of the fat fairy and take some of the babysteps wearing shoes indoors with a pinch of salt. Also advise against signing up for the fairy's emails.

All are welcome, jump on board for one of our three methods of chaos attack:

  1. Baby steps
  2. Baby steps and 15mins decluttering in current zone
  3. Re-inforce the baby steps and daily mission

This month the fat fairy is gearing up for the feastive period. So I shall also post the christmas mission for those who wish are brave enough to look.

In here the motto is:

*"No perfection! Do what you can, but be realistic about what you can do."

Happy flying.

Hello! Can I join? I have just weaned myself off the Flylady emails after realising I've been getting them since 1999 and am still nowhere near getting rid of CHAOS Blush, I was reading them instead of actually doing anything. Desperately want to live in the sort of house where I don't have to give instructions over the phone of which carrier bag amidst all the crap in the living room might have my son's coat hidden in so he can actually leave the house ... Went to someone else's house for a party yesterday and it was so HOMEY! that's what I want.

So. Will give this thread a go, if that's OK. But I warn you: I am very, very bad at this ....

Toffeefudgecake · 01/11/2010 17:07

Hello to Systems and other newbies. And hello to all the usual Flyladies.

Just popping in to visit new thread. Not doing very well at Flying at the moment. Back from my mum's yesterday and had a long list to get through today and only managed about a quarter of it. Blush I'm not going to embarrass myself by listing it here. Hopefully will do better tomorrow.

Had a phone call last night to say that MIL had been taken into A&E. So have been on the phone to various relatives and neighbours, trying to find out what is going on. We think she has gall stones, but will find out more later today, hopefully. Trying to be supportive to DH, who is very worried, obviously.

Going to cook a sausage casserole now and have a quick tidy up. Think a crisis clean is in order ....

Hi Ladies, fell of again!

Three pages and it is only the first on Nov! How do you do it?!

Hope you all had a good half term.

I've had a couple of weeks of my hip not working very well so childcare and flying have gone out of the window a bit and I've been hopelessly loitering on the pregnancy and childbirth threads!

All better now though.

I have been making lots of meals, cakes and biscuits for the freezer though so feeling quite pleased about that.

Thanks MrsD for looking after us last month and DEM for taking on the challenge!

Welcome to all the newbies - there seem to be quite a few, fab!

Well, DH is cooking dinner right now and my list for this evening is as follows:

  • tidy downstairs
  • clean kitchen after dinner
  • hang out washing and put away any dry washing
  • sort a few more things out for storage

List for tomorrow:

  • tidy upstairs
  • washing in/on/out
  • swish and swipe
  • reflexology
  • doctor (at least make appointment)
  • swim
  • make dinner
  • ironing
  • online shop

Have a good evening x

MiniMarmite · 01/11/2010 17:41

I can't believe we are on Christmas missions again - only seems like yesterday that I was ignoring reading last year's!

MrsDinky · 01/11/2010 18:46

Freezer de-iced - didn't take long
Try and sort out router completely -failed, leave to DH

Clean up paddling pool and put away for the winter
Half an hour of dead stuff clearance in the garden

Errands in town
Take DS to Beavers

Systemsaddict welcome, we all know just how you feel.

DancingIceDragons · 01/11/2010 19:15

I have just done the unheard of and canceled my lesson and training tomo. :(
I am now feeling utterly miserable and fed up.

However, list update:
Check links and fix the problems if possible done
School morning routine done
Trip to blackpool with blades done
post letters and cards done those that didnt need the post office Having post office issues atm.
Shine sink
school night routine
Speak to ds' doc done
leave message for pead done
speak to allergy nurse done ds has just failed his milk reintroduction which sucks. But it is back to completely milk free before the new plan of action is put into place.
DW run and emptied and being refilled
Tv, phone and internet repair man been, got new settop box, we now know why the phone doesnt work (in theory) and internet has been in theory reset over the weekend
Cancel tomorrows much looked forward to lesson and training. Havent been in over a week :( :( done

I am now in bed and have given up on flying. The sink is not shiney but I just dont have the energy for it. Ds is tired and has new books so he wont be convinced to even look at his school reading so no point in picking that battle. It will wait.

DidEinsteinsMum · 01/11/2010 19:38

Just in case I forget to come back I shall post the links now. The babystep is already there but the fly lady doesnt update her missions this early so you will have to be patient and try again later/tomo if tomorrow's arent there yet.

the first babystep is to shine your sink, we all agree this is a very important part of the rountines. However, the second babystep is to put on your lace up shoes. This step has been discussed on this thread. Some of us find it really useful to wear shoes, some where slippers and some really dont see the point. However, the main point of the step is not the shoes it is to get up and dressed for the day in one go straight away ie instead of crawling out of bed and slobbing about the house for a bit before getting dressed; get dressed straight away and you will find you are more motivated just to load the dishwasher/put a load of washing on before you leave the house.
babystep 2:lace up shoes

This week's zone is the hall, pourch and dining room. those of us who are in the decluttering stage the fat one has instructions for decluutering

For those of us who have done the decluttering here is the mission for Tuesday

christmas mission can be found here

I am hoping that i will be back later to do the round up. However, if i fall asleep putting ds to bed, I shall do the round up tomo morning post school run.

DidEinsteinsMum · 01/11/2010 21:35

welcome to systemsaddict and welcome back itshappendagain who have joined us for november.

Sylvia gets useful tip of the day:
"Put on lively music to hepp energise you for your 15mins decluttering"

Nettie is very excited about christmas and managed to scare a few with how few sleeps there were til christmas (54 if you are wondering or 7wks and 6days)

Sittinghippo has had a brilliant start and managed to do all of her list.

Bob has also had a productive day. Have they managed to sort out the support worker for dd in school yet?

Swan had a productive day and got her list done although thinks that the quickest way to junk the house is to have the kids home. goodness knows what will happen in the summer when they had 6ish weeks to enjoy the house. Holiday club Wink

Toffee is having a worrying time as her MIL has been taken into hospital ill.

Sylvia has been brave and remove clutter and made some money in doing so.

minimarmite has been productively nesting and has a freezer full despite her hip

MrsD has found the right place to hit her router and got her internet working enough to be able to join us.

PA - hope you havent burnt yourself out going mad with the house work with dh out of the way.

dragon is finally going to have to admit she needs to see the doctor and book an appointment. it is serious when the training gets canceled.

OP posts:
DancingIceDragons · 01/11/2010 21:39

sleep tight fledglings

Scout19075 · 01/11/2010 21:54

Hi all!

Went away to the in-laws for the weekend to celebrate BabyScout's first birthday with the family. Got back late this afternoon/dinner time. Even though the house is still chaotic, I didn't feel nearly as depressed coming home as I used to. The last week or two have done wonders for my house and my mood.

Despite getting home so late and then having to spend an hour collecting MrScout, I still managed to 30 minutes a Hot Spot and get rid of 75 things. Took a HUGE bag of recycling to the bin on the way to the car and it felt wonderful to have accomplished so much in a short period of time.

Back to proper list making for tomorrow!

feetheart · 01/11/2010 22:25

Welcome to Systems, geeky, MrsFromage and welcome back itshappenedagain. You are all definitely in the right place - don't be put off by the lists, if you follow things for a few days you will see how often things reoccur on most people's lists, ie we are often all chat and little action Grin

Case in point - I have NOT managed to do today's Mission in spite of being SO determined to do everything properly this month Hmm - ran out of time during day and when we got back from school it was DARK Shock

However I have done:

  • Work - monthly invoices - done and sent
  • Finished Morning routine
  • Got Felafels out of freezer, made mint/yoghurt dip for dinner and eaten
  • Major 'put-everything-back-where-it-belongs-after-half-term' stint. Did at least 15mins x 2
  • 15mins in DD's hellhole room

I have also:

  • Roasted Halloween pumpkin and divided into portions to freeze to make Pumpkin Pie for Bonfire Night Party
  • Made pastry for above and frozen
  • Juiced pineapple and added sugar syrup ready to make pineapple sorbet tomorrow
  • Mopped kitchen floor which was HORRIBLE
  • Visited poorly elderly neighbours

I am now going to finish my Evening routine and go to bed. Hopefully time for personal messages tomorrow.

Night all :)

Toffeefudgecake · 01/11/2010 22:41

MIL has appendicitis. Phew. That's nasty, but treatable, isn't it? Anyone else had appendicitis here? I didn't know elderly people got it, actually. Thought it was usually children and young people.

Not a very productive day today, although I did manage to buy some Xmas cards and another Xmas present. Apologies to all those who have not even thought about Xmas yet, but I am really hoping to avoid being up till 3am wrapping presents this year, which is why I am starting so early.

Aiming to have an early night tonight, then a productive 'Flylady' day tomorrow.

Thanks for the links, Did. Off to shine my sink right now. Smile

MiniMarmite · 01/11/2010 22:46

Oh dear Toffee that must be a worry. I think you can get appendicitis at any age. I'm waiting for DH to get it as he has been told his appendix is full of gunk.

I guess they will need to operate, hope she makes a speedy recovery.

MrsFromage · 01/11/2010 23:00

I've been out all day at parents so only got back late but have made time to clean the sink and it is now very pleasingly shiny! I skipped cleaning the sink last time I tried flying so hoping I'm off to a more promising start this time.

I'm very impressed by the amount everyone else has been doing!

LinzerTorte · 02/11/2010 06:16

Good morning and welcome to all the new fledglings,

I was woken just before 7 this morning by a friend phoning to ask whether there's school today (there isn't), but by some miracle the DC are in bed (although I did have to go in to see DD2 as she'd wet the bed and she asked who was on the phone). Still, at least it got me up - I want to be at the supermarket at 8 am as they have winter boots and ice skates on offer starting today, and you need to be there as early as possible to get the sizes you want. I also need to get a few more bits and pieces for the "healthy snack" at kindergarten, which has just reminded me that I need to go to the baker's too.

Have had a busy few days here with DH away (he got back last night), visiting and being visited by various friends, meeting another MNer, a Halloween party, and finally a "campfire" (basically burning wood in a barbecue) at the neighbours' last night, which involved slightly too much wine Blush, but I hope to get back on track soon. I did shine my sink and do 15 minutes of decluttering yesterday. Smile

Anyway, must get on - I already had a machine full of washing to do even before DD2's accident, and I doubt the DC will be in bed much longer. Sorry for lack of personal messages, but hope everyone has a good day. Smile

feetheart · 02/11/2010 06:50

Morning Linzer

Well I was in bed by 10.35pm last night but woke at 3.30am with brain fully switched on.
Got up, wrote an email to discourage a member of School Assoc from resigning and started stuff for Inland Revenue (I've been selected to have my Self-assessment checked - lucky me Hmm) By the time I had finished it was too late to go back to bed so it could be a looooong day. Will just have to keep busy and eat chocolate :)

Need a list:

  • All up, dressed, fed and out (preferably without shouting)
  • Pay dinner money x 2
  • Meet up with Family worker
  • Post parcel
  • Morning routine
  • Take elderly next-door neighbour for her flu jab and offer sympathy and comfort
  • Work
  • Will soggy sofa to dry (may have to put heating on)
  • Make Pineapple sorbet
  • Hoover living room, hall and stairs
  • Missions

That will do for now, will see how I get on.

Bob - we got a leaflet through the door offering reduced price sofa cleaning. Think they are a national company with franchises. Can give you the number if you want. Charged £24 to clean it (apparantly its usually £80Hmm) and another £20ish to Scotchguard it again. Was worth it as it was embarrasingly filthy - poor bloke built up quite a sweat whilst cleaning it Blush Just wish it was dry now.

BobLoblaw · 02/11/2010 07:14

Good morning, dd had a couple of seizures overnight so I'm feeling exhausted but she's fine now and we have a few hours with the respite lady this morning so I need to be productive.

Today
-Make beds
-Load of washing or 2
-15 mins declutter in dining room and hall
-Make vegetable chilli
-Make vegetable soup
-Make calzones
-Make banana cake
-Deepclean bathroom
-Thorough dust in dining room
-Evening routine

Well done Sylvia this thread has made me feel so much more in control it's lovely.

Welcome back Marmite glad your hip is on the mend.

Hope you feel better soon DID

Thanks for the links DEM :) Embarrassingly dd is at a special school and the staff ratio is perfectly fine, I just have huge issues about leaving her Blush

Sounds very FlyLady scout well done.

I was shocked by how quickly it got dark too feet and your dinner sounds yum, do you fancy sharing your felafel recipe? Grin

DP had appendicitis toffee he said it was horrible for a week largely as he couldn't eat (but he was in Switzerland, I'm sure my friend was eating when I visited her after she had it) but there were no lasting ill effects.

Congratulations on your shiny sink MrsF if I do nothing else I feel better having a shiny sink :)

Morning Linzer sounds like a lovely weekend, have a nice day x

elliepac · 02/11/2010 07:34

Morning all. First day equals massive fail for me. All mouth no action Grin. Today might will be better!

Toffeefudgecake · 02/11/2010 07:37

Thanks for info on apendicitis, Feet. MIL isn't allowed to eat or drink at the moment, but the pain is under control, so at least she's more comfortable than she was. It was incredibly painful before. DH is going to visit her today.

Bob - Sorry to hear you had a difficult night. Can you catch up on sleep when respite lady visits?

Linzer - DS2 is suddenly having accidents too - he has wet the bed two nights running now. Am a bit fed up with having to wash his sheets all over again.

Incredibly long list to get through - 15 items at last count. Starting with clearing up the kitchen this morning as I didn't get round to doing it last night Blush.
