Remember Remember, Fledglings Fly through November

DidEinsteinsMum · 28/10/2010 23:58

Welcome to the November Fledgling Flying thread.

From the 1st of the month we shall be decluttering and taming the chaos using baby steps, missions and zones. A great big thank you to MrsDinky who looked after us last month.

We are not strict followers of the fat fairy and take some of the babysteps wearing shoes indoors with a pinch of salt. Also advise against signing up for the fairy's emails.

All are welcome, jump on board for one of our three methods of chaos attack:

  1. Baby steps
  2. Baby steps and 15mins decluttering in current zone
  3. Re-inforce the baby steps and daily mission

This month the fat fairy is gearing up for the feastive period. So I shall also post the christmas mission for those who wish are brave enough to look.

In here the motto is:

*"No perfection! Do what you can, but be realistic about what you can do."

Happy flying.

Grin Lovely round-up, Mrs D

Night all.

MrsDinky · 29/11/2010 21:34

x-posted with PMPY - oh dear, poor DD, poor you, I should think that was the last thing you needed to hear.

ToffeeChristmascake · 29/11/2010 21:39

Pushme - no, that's not very helpful of your mum, is it? Maybe you should suggest she makes up the difference in finances if you didn't work?! If it's any comfort, my MIL pointed out today that my children being ill was proof that women shouldn't work Hmm. I made a pathetic noise in protest, but don't want to stir things up - particularly on her birthday - and, anyway, she is very set in her ways. But it is really annoying and doesn't help. MIL only approves of me so long as I am a stay-at-home mum (which she was, of course). Hope yr DD is on the mend very soon. It's such a worry when these things drag on, isn't it?

MrsD - thanks for the round up.

So, how did I do on Part II of my list? (apologies for this - very dull)

Wrap MIL's second present (in Xmas cupboard, which is behind where DS2 sleeps)done
Lunch done
Put tumbledrier on done
Put washing away from y'day done
Make shepherd's pie done
Order DS1's present from RSPB
Dinner done
Give BD cake and presents to MIL when everyone is home done
Load d/w delegate to DH
Tidy kitchen
Bedtime routine
Lay out clothes
Write some Xmas cards
Go to bed and read new book
Early night

Didn't tackle the hotspots today, but have covered the basics. Have had enough now. Fed up with housework and duties. Throwing boys into bed, then off to bed myself. Dunno what lies ahead with ds2 though. Hope he sleeps through tonight or I will be a wreck tomorrow.

swanriver · 29/11/2010 22:12

Oh, I'm very sorry about your father Toffee that must seem like yesterday Sad
and xx to your ds1, perhaps he'll suddenly decide he likes school again after a short break. Anything to just get out sometimes.
linzer I'm full of admiration, and I've often read things which were v.badly translated from German(furniture catalogues can be the worst)so Toffee is probably right there about doing it too well Wink

MrsD we set ourselves the impossible object of selling (presents for grownups)gifts to the children for £2.50 which had been bought for £1. But there is not much you can buy for £1 even at discount outlets. How is your PTA doing it?

My longterm goals for December are getting more and more fuzzy.

GOALS
buy a freezer and find somewhere to put it without dh kicking up fuss
ditto television table/hifi cabinet
draughtproof front door

ohdh approaches

LinzerTorte · 29/11/2010 22:16

I'm exhausted but forcing myself to carry on for a while longer (just taking a quick MN break, although I'm only allowing myself to look at the few threads I'm on). Am tempted to stay up until DH gets back from Paris, but that won't be until around midnight so I'm not sure whether that's such a wise idea after all.

Toffee I'm not surprised you've had enough of housework; you have more than enough on your plate with your MIL and two sick DC. It must be a difficult day for you today, too; I remember you mentioning your father passing away and how it shouldn't have happened. Thinking of you, and hope you get a better night's sleep tonight. (Thanks too for advice re work.)

MrsD Thanks for the links and a great round-up.

pmpy Sorry to hear about your DD and that your mum isn't making the situation any easier. My parents are also quite sceptical about me working; I dread to think what they would have said if they'd have seen me struggling (but generally failing) to work while the DC were around today!

ellie We've only had snow for a day or so, but it's more than long enough for me.

Bob Thanks for the coffee and cake. Grin The funeral must have been very difficult (an understatement, I know), but glad to hear that it went as well as those kinds of things can iyswim.

Deck Hope you were able to have a rest this evening.

Right, must get back to it (it's my own fault Toffee - I accepted the deadline...). Am trying to think of the money and telling myself it will all be over this time next week!

swanriver · 29/11/2010 22:29

Linzer - go to bed! you'll feel better tomorrow for it.
dh has gone to bed in a rage - so I'd better follow

I'll think of some more goals in the more morning Wink
getting v. bogged down by day to day muddle! School is also shortened to 1.15 every day this week which may concentrate the mind wonderfully Hmm
today I have done
Romans homework
Cubs pickup
so more xmas shopping/PTA shopping for tombola
washed uniform for tomorrow!

dh has tidied kitchen and living room, not that well, but that was nice of him, so I shouldn't complain

sleep tight all

LinzerTorte · 29/11/2010 22:39

I know, I know - I'm off now. DH got back slightly earlier than expected and is, I think, already in bed. Hope the rage wasn't directed at you, swan. DH tends to get annoyed if I potter around for too long after he's gone to bed.
I can only dream of school until 1.15 pm. It's at times like these (when I'm ridiculously busy at work) that I long for British school hours.

NettiesElfnPie · 29/11/2010 22:49

toffee hope ds is feeling better. good on you turning your phone off. being busy sometimes best but take care of you too.

Good morning, thank you all for your thoughts, I hope we will all be able to move on now and I'm so pleased his family got to see just how loved he was. Still no blooming snow here but it's freeezing. I've got a really busy day tomorrow so I need to get lots of bits and pieces done today.

Today
-Morning routine
-Wash our bedding
-Make dinner for today
-Make soup for tomorrow
-Make banana bread
-Dust lounge and dining room
-Hoover through
-Hotspots in hall/lounge/kitchen
-15 minutes declutter in lounge
-Evening routine

Impressive afternoon Nettie well done.

What are your school hours Linzer ?

Wow swan that does sound like a challenge did you find anything?

I'm sorry Toffee yesterday must have been really hard, especially with so little space to yourself.

DeckTheIceWithDragonsAndHolly · 30/11/2010 07:55

morning. thank you ever so much for posting the links MrsD I crashed at 8:30pm I feel more human this morning but could have slept til lunch. However, i was woken by the very excited chants of "School is cancelled" from ds at 7:30am. He had lookd out of the window and seen snow. School is not cancelled according to the website and he has now a dilema. If he thinks he is not well enough for school there are no swimming lessons or playing in the snow later.

the round up is fabulous MrsD sorry to have been omiss with it recently.

PMPY sorry to hear you mum is being less then tactful. try to ignore her.

I am either supposed to be training or discovering the lounge today. need to find out what the roads are like around here. they can be very good with gritting. but they havent done our road further then the firestation so they are obviously predicting a harsh winter and grit shortage.

LinzerTorte · 30/11/2010 08:18

Morning all,

I'm feeling surprisingly awake so far today despite going to bed a good two hours later than normal. Am not sure I can get away with a later bedtime tonight, however; I'll have to make sure I'm as productive as possible this morning.

Nettie How was the meet-up? Was your headache in any way related? Grin

Bob DD1 has school from 8 am to 12.45 pm and DD2 from 8 am to 11.50 am. They'll probably be at school longer when they start secondary school, but it will be a while yet (6 years) before they're all there.

DEM I'm so glad that school isn't cancelled when it snows here - I would be completely stuck this week as it would be impossible to work with all three of them around.

Must get on; still a good 50 pages to go...

NettiesElfnPie · 30/11/2010 08:57

Good morning everyone.

My headache on Sunday was definitely related to Meet up. It was very nice and for me I managed to speak to quite a lot of people. Made me realise I don't have a lot of opinions these days Blush everyone was lovely and no real antics just a good time. Mind you the flashing penis earrings were quite something! Grin maybe next time I can't be a bit more outgoing!

Today so far
Dw
Dd 2 emptied Wm and filled td Grin
set up snowman countdown to Christmas only 25 sleeps to
Go. In fact 24 days 15hrs 11m and 20 sec Grin
dc dressed

Still to do
Dh to drop ds off at Montessori [too scared emotion]
tidy house again Hmm
jo jingles with Dd
Opticians with Dd
Then home for lunch
More tidying
Painting
Bed

dem Aw poor ds I remember those wishing school was closed days so I could play in the snow.
linzer good luck with rest of pages.
pmpy Defo ignore ignore ignore! They all lived in a different time so should remember that when spouting forth!!

Right better get washed and moving. Have good day Grin

SylviaPankhurst · 30/11/2010 09:18

Hello everyone

Have a child off for an exam this morning then flying out to a business lunch and working until 9 pm.

However I have sorted sink and kitchen put on dishwasher and am about to iron outfit! Need a day to catch up I think and a rescue mission for the whole house. Hmm

optimisticmumma · 30/11/2010 09:26

Morning all...feeling rubbish today. I've had the same headache since last week and it's making me feel c**p, so am going to doc at lunchtime through the snow that arrived last night...
sylvia - good luck to your DC for the exam - hope it goes well!!

Can I have a proud mummy moment?? It is a biggy?
I will wait for the go ahead.....Smile

MrsDinky · 30/11/2010 09:33

Go on OM .

Snowing here too, but not much, DCs are excited.

I have lots to do and CBA........

optimisticmumma · 30/11/2010 09:41

Oh alright mrsdinky you've twisted my arm!Wink

  • My DS1 has an interview at Oxford!!!!!!Shock Yes..... Oxford!!!!!Shock

(As you can tell he is way out of my academic league!)

MrsDinky · 30/11/2010 09:45

Ooh, well done to your DS! When is it? What subject does he want to read? Wow, impressed (polytechnic graduate here).

optimisticmumma · 30/11/2010 09:51

He is going to read PPE (Politics, Philosophy,Economics)- I just hope he doesn't turn into Dave or Nick (Cameron/Clegg). He has to go on Sunday and stay until Wednesday! It will be a great experience in itself. I think his chances are about 1 in 12 so we're all fairly relaxed about it tbh.
He seems to be reading heavy tomes at the moment in preparation!Grin
BTW I'm a lowly teacher training grad....(it was Bath tho)

LinzerTorte · 30/11/2010 09:55

How exciting OM, tell us more! (I have had enough of lukewarm octopus salad and the like.)

I heard about those earrings Nettie; I'm sure the meet-up was worth it for those alone. Grin

feetheart · 30/11/2010 09:56

Wow, that is a biggy OM. Good on him, its hard enough just to get an interview. He'll have a whole Flylady thread behind him, not sure if that will help or hinder to be honest Grin

Need a quick list to get me going as yesterday was a bit of a wash-out Flying-wise as I did have to go up to the flat and sort out new bedbase! No new tenant now as he has a better offer but do have 2 girls in there and they are on a mission to find a suitable flatmate (had a few unsuitable ones apply so far but we have weeded them out between us)

  • Morning routine
  • Make Christmas cake
  • Transfer money
  • Ring plumber
  • WORK
  • Book Morning coffee in posh 5* hotel for DH and I for Thursday. Haven't had much of a chance to just sit and talk recently due to illness, work, etc so going to take a little time out (and fill up on yummy cakes/pastries :))
  • Fill in diary stuff
  • Make pizza dough for dinner
  • 5 min room rescues x a few
  • Mission or two in living room
  • Hoover living room, hall and stairs
  • Catch up on thread and actually acknowledge other people Blush

That will do for now. Here's hoping I get to the bottom of it Hmm

Happy Flying/working everyone else :)

LinzerTorte · 30/11/2010 09:58

x posts OM - which college is he applying to? Or does he apply to more than one? (I seem to remember you used to apply to three, but that was years ago.)

Ooh, I was at Bath too (at the university); when were you there?

optimisticmumma · 30/11/2010 10:40

Linzer - he has applied to Christ Church and he will be interviewed by them and maybe others too - that's why they stay for 3 nights! He gets to apply for 5 on UCAS but only one Oxford college He has offers from Manchester and York but hasn't heard from Warwick or Durham ( I think they leave it till after closing date in Jan).

Interesting that you were in Bath - I love that city!! But, I am sure our paths can't have crossed as I am very old Grin.I went - wait for it - 1980-1984... and I really, really don't want to find that you were there 10 years later or something!!!!

optimisticmumma · 30/11/2010 10:42

Thanks Feetheart - I'm sure flylady can only help! Hmm Grin

BobLoblaw · 30/11/2010 10:42

Today
-Morning routine done
-Wash our bedding done
-Make dinner for today
-Make soup for tomorrow
-Make banana bread
-Dust lounge and dining room done
-Hoover through
-Hotspots in hall/lounge/kitchen done
-15 minutes declutter in lounge
-Evening routine
-Clean dd's windows done

Need to do some cooking but dd is being demanding Grin

Ooh well done OM's son, you are definitely allowed a proud mummy announcement, hope he gets on ok.

That must make things tricky Linzer I will appreciate DS' school hours more today :)

feetheart · 30/11/2010 11:03

OM - that means you and I are about the same age though I started this child-rearing lark very late. Long, long way to go to UCAS forms in this house Grin

Feeling a bit 'Domestic Goddessy' here as Christmas cake now in oven. Don't even like the stuff but DH loves it. At least it will make the messy house smell nice :)

Still faffing about avoiding work so better get on Hmm
