Remember Remember, Fledglings Fly through November

DidEinsteinsMum · 28/10/2010 23:58

Welcome to the November Fledgling Flying thread.

From the 1st of the month we shall be decluttering and taming the chaos using baby steps, missions and zones. A great big thank you to MrsDinky who looked after us last month.

We are not strict followers of the fat fairy and take some of the babysteps wearing shoes indoors with a pinch of salt. Also advise against signing up for the fairy's emails.

All are welcome, jump on board for one of our three methods of chaos attack:

  1. Baby steps
  2. Baby steps and 15mins decluttering in current zone
  3. Re-inforce the baby steps and daily mission

This month the fat fairy is gearing up for the feastive period. So I shall also post the christmas mission for those who wish are brave enough to look.

In here the motto is:

*"No perfection! Do what you can, but be realistic about what you can do."

Happy flying.

Thank you all for your kindness and welcome.

I am going to try and do the mission today as it is just what I need particularly the pile of shoes by the front door!

My list also includes:

Dwasher - done
Water bottles - done
Hob clean
Living room hoover
15 minutes de clutter study (my vile headache of a room full of papers but desk looks better already thanks to yesterday)

Hope everyone has a good day. :)

DancingIceDragons · 02/11/2010 09:56

geekygiraffe The trick is to start with a list of absolutely must do and add to it as you find you can get other stuff done. Grin

Not started the day well, ds was up and down and i just didnt sleep well. Havent got enough voice to make phone calls so will have to take a trip down to the doctors to make appointment when i get my balance back. Am going to be a bad thread leader, not follow my own links and crawl back into bed.

Hope you are all as productive as you wish or need to be.

MrsDinky · 02/11/2010 10:29

DID you take care, I'm quite happy to pick up the roundups again for a few days if it would help.

Sylvia that's what I do with the missions, pick up the ones that suit and miss the ones that don't. I also carry them over and sometimes do several at once later in the month.

Geeky are you studying or working at uni? My lists rarely make it to the screen, takes too long, but do try and make them in notebook.

Nettie is that an iPhone app?

See you all later.

highlighterpen · 02/11/2010 10:45

Hi all, I haven't really had time to catch up properly; just got back yesterday from a week away with the kids. DH had hoovered but the rest of the house was as much of a mess as when I went away and I was Angry.

Both Dts have gone down with a vomiting bug, DT2 also has croup.

Nevertheless, I have
shined my sink
Washed up (dishwasher's broken)
Dried up, put away
Done the 27 thing fling
Cleaned the kitchen
Load of washing on, one load dried and folded

House looks so much better already than when we got back yesterday.

More soon!

SylviaPankhurst · 02/11/2010 11:22

highlighter trying to remember 27 fling thing! Please is there a link?

swanriver · 02/11/2010 11:27

done
actually caught up with some long lost friends rather than add them to my Xmas card list Grin
wrestled with dcs this morning - chaos of PE kits, homework, lost watsits, lateness, printng out some Jonas brother song, tantrums and returned dh Grin
it has taken me hours to recover from this - I can't even think straight...Anyway that's why I come here, to GATHER MY WITS.

Bob that is a delicious sounding list, I hope dd is alright after the seizures. Is it something you have to deal with every day ? - I hope you can look after yourself too.
Toffee glad there is an answer to MIL's terrible pain and it can be solved.

WITSGATHERING
lemsip
coffee
make beds
hoover upstairs (rescued yest at bedtime Smile
dates on calendar (seriously overdue)
ring hosp to check ds IS having leg op on 8th.
ring babysitter to see if she can do this eve if dh can't make it home as need to go to PTA

to violin shop to get grade 2 book
piano practice

highlighterpen · 02/11/2010 11:27

Erm.... I don't know

Basically as far as I can remember, you just walk round the house trying to find 27 things to throw away (I cheated and recycled the paper things)! I was proud of my haul this morning - a car wheel lock that hasn't been used for 4 years (lost key) from the porch, 2 ancient mouldy handbags from the coat pegs, loads of old work folders etc etc.

Will try to find a link.

swanriver · 02/11/2010 11:29

oh yes, house looks tidier, but washing everywhere (we have no drier so cannot follow flylady's strictures on that)
need to put it all away before 3.30pm..and then perhaps I'll find lost PE top.

highlighterpen · 02/11/2010 11:31

Got it! (It was well hidden!)
27 fling

Toffeefudgecake · 02/11/2010 11:45

Nettie - you have written some Xmas cards?! Envy. I thought I was doing so well just buying some. Right, had better get started then [competitive emoticon].

Highlighter - welcome. You have had a productive morning! Smile

Sylvia - welcome to you too. Another busy newbie! This is going to galvanise me into action.

Swan - hope you find lost PE top. I have lost Ds2's bookbag. Had to give him the money to buy a new one at school this morning. Annoying, because it's bound to turn up when I am de-cluttering.

Managed quite a few jobs before getting children to school, then spent a couple of hours catching up with a friend. Now I have to start on my list of 15 things - although I seem to be on MN again. How did that happen? Confused

systemsaddict · 02/11/2010 11:52

Thanks for the welcome everyone!

I woke at 5!! (bloody clocks going back) but fortunately children didn't, so I got up and did the following things I don't usually manage:

  • SHINED MY SINK!
  • cleared sink windowsill of junk / medicines
  • put clean washing in a basket
  • washed and hung up wool stuff that I've not got round to
  • emptied dishwasher
  • put recycling out
  • put old clothes out for collection today
  • cleared away breakfast dishes from dining table

and managed to get school-phobic small ds to school on time without trauma, dd to nursery and me to work before 9.15. Hurray!

Tonight need to:

  • prep cheque to pay in
  • scoop cat litter
  • put clean washing away
  • tidy up downstairs

Toffee if she needs surgery I think they often do appendixes by keyhole now? Fingers crossed she recovers soon.

DID am intrigued, what do you train in?

DancingIceDragons · 02/11/2010 11:57

Toffee no need to get competitive, I have a deadline of Thursday for a few of my christmas presents. Have to be wrapped and ready by 3pm thursday. only one problem. Havent finished making yet Hmm

highlighter thankyou for linking you just beat me to it. Agreed that the flylady site is not the easiest to negiotiate around.

MrsD Thank you for the offer of rounds ups. I am hoping that rest today will improve the situation. But will let you know if I struggling to cope with it. Are you feeling any better yet?

DancingIceDragons · 02/11/2010 11:59

xpost systems In answer to your question: iceskating.

SylviaPankhurst · 02/11/2010 12:07

Am feeling so much better and can even see my desk! :)

Hope your mil stays comfortable Toffee, DPs grandad is in hospital and last time we visited he was very clearly high, looked younger than he has in years Grin

I seem to be endlessly washing too Nettie Have a lovely meal out.

I like the missions too Sylvia and geeky helps me keep on top of everything, it's much much easier now I've already been over the rooms once.

Oh no DID sorry you're still so poorly, hope you've had some decent rest

Hope you're DTs are better very soon highlighter I'm very impressed you're managing to Fly with poorly children too.

Thanks swan :) she doesn't have big fits every day, just small absences and tonics, just likes to throw in a full tonic clonic every now and again to keep me on my toes Wink

All that before work/school system that's very impressive :)

I just sorted all the recycling too and I hate doing that when it's been raining, ugh.

Sounds like productive days everywhere although I'm now cuddling up with dd for a while and eating warm banana cake :)

sittinghippo · 02/11/2010 12:42

Mmmm warm banana cake... my absolute favourite! Might have to make one myself this afternoon (will give me something fun to do with DD)

DID hope you feel better soon, you do sound rather miserable Sad

I am rather intrigued as to what it is you are making for this Christmas present [nosey emoticon]

As for Flying, beds are made, swished and swiped and kitchen looks clean so for the rest of the day I CBA!!!!

DancingIceDragons · 02/11/2010 12:57

This batch of stuff is christmas angels and table cloth thingy. But as people are getting soft parcels it is the first of many batches. [mad]

pushmepullyou · 02/11/2010 13:07

Happy November everyone Smile

It was my birthday yesterday so no flying done here Blush

Done quite well on initial tidying this morning, but had a whole home blessing planned and have (as usual) been overtaken by paid work. Am going away for a couple of days on Thursday and desperately need to get the house passable again first, so here is my list for 'by Thursday morning'

Washing all clean and dry
All clean washing put away
Washing up finished
Vacuuming all done
Fridge cleaned out
All bins out
Mop kitchen floor
Clean ktichen sides
Bathroom clean
Packing

pushmepullyou · 02/11/2010 13:08

sorry posted without a single friendly message Blush. Need to catch up with the thread first though. Hopefully back later for a chat!

feetheart · 02/11/2010 13:11

Bob - cuddling and warm banana cake sound lovely, just what you need.
I will happily share felafel recipe (and requested banana and choc cake recipe from October) Just let me get a few more jobs done first as I think I'm on a roll :)

Nettie - I wasn't sure about roasting pumpkin but one of them was quite fat. I just sliced it up, brushed it with veg oil and roasted it. Tastes bland but not smoky. Hoping pie recipe makes it yummy (never made one), will let you know.

So far I have:

  • Got all up, dressed, fed and out (preferably without shouting) - done
  • Pay dinner money x 2 - worked it out and written cheque, need to hand it in
  • Meet up with Family worker - done
  • Post parcel - done
  • Morning routine - done
  • Take elderly next-door neighbour for her flu jab and offer sympathy and comfort - done
  • Work - no, am avoiding Hmm
  • Will soggy sofa to dry (may have to put heating on) - seems to be working
  • Make Pineapple sorbet - done

Now need to:

  • Hoover living room, hall and stairs
  • Missions - what's she on about Living
room!!
  • 15mins in DD's hellhole room again
  • Email School Assoc people
  • Get DS's hair cut - easy as she comes here
  • Dinner - 2nd round of fish pie from Sunday :)
  • DD to Brownies
  • bit more of Tax thingie
  • Evening routine
  • Bed between 10-10.30pm

Right, break over, more Flying.

highlighterpen · 02/11/2010 14:16

Wow, we all sound like we are on a roll today! Smile

Poor DID, hope you are feeling better soon.

Made lunch
Cleared up after DT2 (again), poor boy
Cleared up
Washed up
More washing on

Boblob I am jealous of your banana cake!

Going well with the FLYing so far - love her website, it is all so encouraging. Maybe even our house can be clutter-free!

LinzerTorte · 02/11/2010 14:58

I'm not sure I'm on a roll, highlighter. Blush A four-day weekend is not conducive to a tidy house, or indeed to getting much done at all.

However, I have managed to get the DC kitted out with ice skates (also bought a pair for DD1 to grow into which would fit me - I wonder whether I could get away with wearing children's skates...) and buy the rest of the food to send in to kindergarten tomorrow. I now have an hour or so of child-free (and DH-free!) time to rush around the house in an attempt to get it looking slightly more presentable, but just need to finish my coffee first (not that I'm procrastinating or anything Grin).

feetheart I love falafel but have never made them myself; a recipe would be great.

pmpy A belated happy birthday for yesterday!

Bob Looks like you've been busy in the kitchen today; banana cake is one of my favourites too.

systems Sympathies wrt your early start - and there was I feeling sorry for myself for having been woken at 7 (which would admittedly be very late on a normal, i.e. school day).

Toffee Nothing like a bit of competition to get me motivated! Have added "print out Christmas card list" to my list; now just need to locate the Christmas cards, which are hiding somewhere in the cellar. (I always stock up in the UK as cards are ridiculously overpriced and generally sold individually - or in packs of 10 at most - here.)

swan I find this thread excellent for wit gathering purposes. DH doesn't understand, however; he doesn't think I can complain about having too much to do if my first port of call is MN.

DID Hope you manage to have a rest and are feeling better soon.

Coffee finished so must get a move on...

SylviaPankhurst · 02/11/2010 15:25

My roll call for today was:

done

Both missions
Hob cleaned
15 minutes de clutter study, bedroom and living room
Hoovering upstairs and living room
Washing and drying x1
Dishwasher
swish and swipe
sink shined

Now all the remains is

Floor mopped kitchen and bathroom
Filing ++++++++

Am thinking of starting christmas cards Hmm

geekygiraffe · 02/11/2010 15:48

Just bookmarking to see if it works! (bookmarking that is, not general domestic goddess-ness). In a fit of either nesting (am 26+4) or madness, just cleaned front door! A lifetime first...

Scout19075 · 02/11/2010 15:54

I love the 27 Thing Fling! I usually end up on a roll and chuck at least 50. That's if you include envelopes, things into the shred bag, etc. Today, I think, it has been more.

Does anyone know -- are phone books recycleable?
