Remember Remember, Fledglings Fly through November

Welcome to the November Fledgling Flying thread.

From the 1st of the month we shall be decluttering and taming the chaos using baby steps, missions and zones. A great big thank you to MrsDinky who looked after us last month.

We are not strict followers of the fat fairy and take some of the babysteps wearing shoes indoors with a pinch of salt. Also advise against signing up for the fairy's emails.

All are welcome, jump on board for one of our three methods of chaos attack:

  1. Baby steps
  2. Baby steps and 15mins decluttering in current zone
  3. Re-inforce the baby steps and daily mission

This month the fat fairy is gearing up for the feastive period. So I shall also post the christmas mission for those who wish are brave enough to look.

In here the motto is:

*"No perfection! Do what you can, but be realistic about what you can do."

Happy flying.

Ellie I ended up Sky+ ing it too so we could watch it tomorrow with fast forwarding of adverts. There is a good thread going about it in TV addicts. I never watch stuff like that normally but DH and reading about it on MN persuaded me.

Have developed another stinking cold, I think Imust be spending too much time in school, that's the 4 th this term I reckon.

Got to go and get DCs ready for swimming lessons, back later.

NettieSnowBalls · 20/11/2010 10:26

I have managed to get ds to write 2 of his chrstmas cards. As i refuse to write them for him, at a rate or two or three a day he should get them finished in time.

swanriver · 20/11/2010 11:08

ellie can't remember my Dad ever shopping in his life, have a lovely day enjoy the family, xmas market.

v.slow morning. dd very much worse for her late night at party, we've already had two hysterical outbursts. The price of being too popular Grin And another sleepover this eve Shock
Now I'm meant to be preparing lunch whilst everyone is at music school Hmm

wash on
made two beds
dressed dcs who were in most disorgansed state lying festooned with match attack cards/cats/odd socks

everything else...will get round to remembering what everything else is..after another cup of coffee

Toffeefudgecake · 20/11/2010 12:46

Thought I might catch up on sleep last night, but DS2 woke up at 6am after wetting the bed, so I ended up with even less sleep than usual. DH had his Sat lie in, but I did go back to bed at 10 and had another 1 1/2 hrs. Still feeling shattered though.

No chance of Family Fun Day here today. More of a Getting Through the Day Without Losing It Day, I think. DH is out all day and I can't leave MIL alone for long, so we will be housebound most of the time. Fortunately, DS2 has lots of new toys to play with, thanks to his birthday.

Oh, and computer lead has broken, so can't use our computer and have to ask DS1's permission to use his little computer instead Shock. Tiny keyboard though, so finding it hard to type.

did - agree with you about the decluttering. I am not going to do anymore missions until I have managed to get rid of more clutter. Am actually finding it quite addictive.

ellie - i hope the anniversary goes OK. It's the anniversary of my dad's death in just over a week's time. Always brings it back, doesn't it? Sad

mrsdinky - i like yr basic routines. gd idea.

pa - hope you are resting

bob - you too. you must be exhausted. are you home yet?

linzer - glad the dermatologist is keeping a close eye on you. sorry you are feeling low. sounds like you need to do something for yrself for a change.

sorry, but have to go now. ds2 is crying and duties call. waves to all.

highlighterpen · 20/11/2010 14:15

Hi all,
Been a busy few days here and busy today too! We have In-laws visiting with their 2 DCs so I did a big bathroom clear before they arrived and have just mostly been keeping up with washing, drying and washing up since!

Today we took our 2 and the visiting DCs swimming and then to a cafe for lunch. Swings later.

DEM you are doing a brilliant job and you are definitely helping me! No perfection is a good motto too Smile

DancingIceReindeer · 20/11/2010 17:42

Little flying done here today.

ds write 2 christmas cards done
car to garage forgot first thing but mechanic fab and was still done
ds' bedding washed done
ds' room tidied up better then was and box of toys sorted from downstairs. Best bit plastic tatt drawer sorted!

Early night in order tonight.

DancingIceReindeer · 20/11/2010 17:47

cant not can go Blush

systemsaddict · 20/11/2010 17:52

Hi guys sorry I dropped off for a bit, suddenly things are seeming harder. But, I did a Christmas babystep today hurray! and have been doing more small-attack tidying sessions, and more laundry, as I write all of this it seems I have been more on top of things than I felt. But haven't been doing them as routines so there is the constant sense of emergency/overwhelm underlying which is eventually what I'd like to use Flying to get rid of. Quick hello to all and DEM your encouragement and round-ups have kept me going.

Plan for tonight:

  • clear dinner
  • tidy
  • journal
  • ASDA order and simples meal plan
  • wrap present for a birthday party tomorrow
Stillconfounded · 20/11/2010 20:54

Hi all

Well I didn't get back on here as promised this morning and didn't knock the house back in to shape as intended either (although washing pile is slightly diminished and house is no worse I suppose). I did make veg soup and a Thai chicken curry though.

Dh has stinking cold, dd is stroppy and uncooperative and everything is a bit bleuh tbh!! (Sympathies Linzer I feel the same as you atm and don't know quite why!)

So like Toffee it's been a "get through the day" sort of day here. At least the sun shone for a few hours this morning which was lovely (and the gps had a run out on the lawn so they are happy)

And - most important of all - Bob has positive news of her dd on the other thread which is BRILLIANT!! Well done Bob!

DID you shouldn't be apologising - you are keeping us all going - it's a v. v. long thread with loads of different posters - you are doing brilliantly.

(I had the weeping thing with the "officially old" realisation a while back btw - bet I beat you in terms of years by a decade or two Wink!!)

*Ellie - thinking of you today - hope you have a comforting day with your family

PA hope you are resting

Mini hope you are managing to find time to eat!!

I hope all of you suffering with various viruses are on the way to recovery and those of you who are feeling overwhelmed with housework (I include myself in this!!) can develop tunnel vision and keep focusing on chipping away at the chores, 15-min by 15 min step. It's proving to be quite a hard month isn't it? I think that's partly down to winter/dark nights setting in, combined with pre-Christmas stress (much easier when Christmas season actually under way but run up always hellish)

Nettie you sound very chipper and on top things and MrsD - I really like the sound of your routine which sounds eminently do-able - so I will try and take inspiration from you both now and do something useful for rest of evening ...

Sylvia hope you hear good news on Monday ...

Waves to Optimistic Pushme Swan Highlighter Loosinas Systems* MissBennett Ihate Darts PurpleW SittingH and everyone else ...

pushmepullyou · 20/11/2010 21:32

Just wrote a huge thoughtful post and the computer's eaten it Angry

So to sum up. Yey for Bob's DD Grin. Hope PA is on the mend and ellie is feeling as OK as possible.

Commiserations with those who CBA, including Linzer, SC and DEM (who is a fab leader!). I also CBA and am with MrsD on the 'flyinglite' routine for those lazy weeks!

Big wave to everyone else including Nettie, Toffee, Highlighter, Sylvia, System, Optomistic, Swan and everyone I've forgotten!

Tomorrow I really need to -

Change beds
Wash bath mat
Mop kitchen floor
Bleach shower curtain
Bleach cat bowls

DancingIceReindeer · 20/11/2010 22:24

Right. Having planned to be in bed an hour ago and had to deal with a ton of stuff re ds which means it is later then I intended. Sc it is entirely possible that you may beat me in years. However, i suspect it is the only 3 hours sleep that has been the problem. Damm it was almost worth it. And if ds had slept to 6:30 or later it would have been worth it. Grin

Will try to remember name change and post links. However tomorrows list is:

ds to write at least 2 more christmas cards
Finish tidying ds' room
clean ds' room
fold washing
put ds' washing away
burn paperwork in need of destruction
Hopefully wash car.
Wash ds' bedding as necessary.
ds' reading
ds' spellings
thread round up!
early night.

systemsaddict · 20/11/2010 22:25

Plan for tonight:

  • clear dinner done
  • tidy notmuch
  • journal done which is a big healthy thing for me to have fitted in
  • ASDA order and simples meal plan done
  • wrap present for a birthday party tomorrow toocold! it's in the car and I'm not going out there given the draught round my feet it's below freezing, will do it first thing.

Night All!

DidEinsteinsMum · 20/11/2010 22:31

Links for sunday:

babystep is to include laundry into your routine

According to the fat fairy the aim of today is:
minimal routines
Fun with the family

Just remember you can only do what you can do. Be realistic with what you want to achieve and accept that you have only managed what you could. Anything is progress in the right dirrection!!!!!

Have a good day all!

OP posts:
elliepac · 21/11/2010 07:46

Morning everyone! Dd has been up since half five and I am therefore rather grumpy this morning Grin. Not quite sure what I am going to do today. There are several things I need to do :-

Tesco
Washing and drying
Tidy downstairs
Schoolwork

Apart from that I have no plans. Might go to the park, ds finally learned to ride his bike last weekend so is itching to get out on it. We shall just see where the day takes us I think.

Thank you for all your kind thoughts yesterday I had a lovely few hours with mum and sis. Where we remembered dad by having wine and pudding, his two favourite things

Back later.

NettieSnowBalls · 21/11/2010 11:35

Morning everyone!

Have done swimming lessons and was just about to go Xmas shopping!
Instead I now have an emergency dentist app with dentist I don't even know Shock after pulling a crown straight out eating a maynards wine gum!!!!! Shock Angry Grr
I want false teeth all them them!! Most of them are false or partly false anyway!! Grr

Sorry for ranting!

Hope you all have a lovely day Smile

Ihatecobwebs · 21/11/2010 12:34

Hi all

House is full of colds, DH is in bed still, DS is watching Scrap Heap Challenge, and I'm looking at the washing up on the side and wondering if I've got enough energy to get through it all Sad

Done
Breakfasts
Made mincemeat - has to sit for 24 hours now before adding brandy and putting in jars
Chicken in oven

To Do
Washing up
S/s
Make beds (have to wait for DH to get out of ours Grin
Washing on airer
Washing in machine
Wipe around kitchen
Finish lavender bags

Everything else will have to wait, and hopefully everyone will feel better tomorrow.

DidEinsteinsMum · 21/11/2010 13:39

Done so far.

Oversleep
ds to write more christmas cards.
I have also started mine Shock
Have goal posts moved
Have a complete hissy fit re ds' behaviour. I am in need of chocolate and he is banished to his bedroom having been told that i wont be helping anymore and if it doesnt get done he wont get christmas decorations, including advent calander.

However, despite several attempts to get dressed I havent managed it yet.
I am very cross and grumpy and very tired as my early night was ruined by a phone call.
I am sulking. No idea how on earth i am going to get stuff done today because all i want to do is sleep oh and tell the world to do something very rude whilst leaving me alone.

I suspect a touch of pmt.

DeckTheIceWithDragonsAndHolly · 21/11/2010 14:01

Right, i now have clothes on and ds is doing his reading with mum.

In a vague attempt to get a grip.

Overview list:
Bathroom decluttering done x2
Hall decluttering done
Lounge - sort all paperwork and stuff, Laundry A
Dining room - decluttering A
utility room - decluttering A
Wash carpets
christmas baking
christmas cards
christmas presents
Burn paperwork N
Clean car N

Breathes and repeats: "It IS doable" "It is doable" "It IS"...

Hmm
systemsaddict · 21/11/2010 18:06

Today has alternated between productive and resentful! I have tidied seemingly constantly - feels like I got nowhere but some progress has surely been made. Hoovered downstairs, laundry put away, washed and hung up, dw run, asda put away, everyone fed, rubbish and recycling out, birthday party attended. The prospect of a chilled-out Sunday with minimal routines is a long way off in this house, it's catch-up day here still!

So tonight need to:

  • get clothes ready for tomorrow
  • bath kids
  • empty dw and reload with dinner stuff
  • journal
  • some more tidying
  • find sheets for kids' beds
  • get ds' school bag ready

Hope everyone's day improved, that nettie's tooth has been fixed, that DID got chocolate and made headway on impressive list (what do the A and N letter codes mean?), that ellie got a nap, that people are getting better chez cobwebs, and that everyone else has had a lovely day.

DeckTheIceWithDragonsAndHolly · 21/11/2010 18:09

N = need to do
A = achievable

Grin

That list is what needs to get done before the end of the month, with exception of cards and presents

Dolanette · 21/11/2010 18:37

Hello all
