Remember Remember, Fledglings Fly through November

DidEinsteinsMum · 28/10/2010 23:58

Welcome to the November Fledgling Flying thread.

From the 1st of the month we shall be decluttering and taming the chaos using baby steps, missions and zones. A great big thank you to MrsDinky who looked after us last month.

We are not strict followers of the fat fairy and take some of the babysteps wearing shoes indoors with a pinch of salt. Also advise against signing up for the fairy's emails.

All are welcome, jump on board for one of our three methods of chaos attack:

  1. Baby steps
  2. Baby steps and 15mins decluttering in current zone
  3. Re-inforce the baby steps and daily mission

This month the fat fairy is gearing up for the feastive period. So I shall also post the christmas mission for those who wish are brave enough to look.

In here the motto is:

*"No perfection! Do what you can, but be realistic about what you can do."

Happy flying.

Blush typos and spelling mistakes are awful Blush

DidEinsteinsMum · 07/11/2010 00:53

We have two thread newbies today CakeCuresAll and Dolanette. Welcome to the thread.

MM has been on toddler duty, dreaming of food from cook and counting down the 3 weeks until she has a lovely snuggling baby to cuddle.

Ellie had high hopes of being productive but opted for some lovely family time instead, having survived shopping hell. Quite right to. Children are only children once, the house will always need cleaning.

OM is getting very organised and is predicting a 'Kirsty's homemade christmas'

*Highlighter is having a tough time with DT2 in hospital. We all wish him a speedy recovery.

Systems how was the firework display?

Bob had a lovely lie in curtiousy of dp, and then went out for the day.

Sitting has been keeping up with her routines whilst looking after dd with a dreaded vomiting bug.

Swan precisely, the medicinal amount is enough to take the stress away, whilst hopefully leaving you functional. Sounds lively in the Swan household. Did the twins make up after their head bopping incident?

Toffee has been doing a major decluttering of ds2's room so that they can look after MIL after her appendicitis hospitalisation.

Sylvia is a very brave woman and has 16 of dd's friends for a sleep over tonight. I hope they let you get some sleep

MrsD has enjoyed taking her dc to their first firework display, but was let down by technology. Thank goodness for iplayer as a backup.

nettie snuck in whilst i was typing the round up, and is someone else who is forgetting the bedtime baby step. Grin She has been baking and cooking today.

Grin

Night all!

elliepac · 07/11/2010 08:30

Morning everyone!

Another beautiful day here today. Am going to list post today but a far more realistic one than yesterday Grin.

Tidy downstairs
washing up
WM on
drier on
Cook Sunday Lunch
Bake cakes with DC's

IF i get chance, I may venture upstairs to clean but no-one sees it so am not going to allow myself to get stressed about it.

Welcome to dolanette, i hope you enjoy the madness Grin.

Back later to catch up with everyone!

DancingIceDragons · 07/11/2010 09:38

morning.

ds let me lie in [bliss] so i am just about to get up. He otoh has been up since 6am. Which is slowly getting better.

Today's list
ds' reading
ds' spellings
ds' homework (check he wants to do as it is optional)
put away clothes
finish the washing
iron last few bits
fold last few bits
finish finding lounge floor
hoover lounge floor.

Anything else that grabs my attention.

Might get the child to make a cake. Will have to see if he has been experimenting in the kitchen this morning first. Hmm

Have a good day!!!!

BobLoblaw · 07/11/2010 11:59

Morning

We've all been very lazy this morning Blush but ds is off for a birthday day out in a bit and dp is at band practise so I will be more productive this afternoon.

Today
-Make beds done
-Deep clean bathroom done
-Washing 2 loads done 2 to go
-Iron unifom
-Pack school bags
-Hoover throughout
-Clean mirrors
-Make dinner
-Wash dc bedding

I'd better go and get on with it I suppose. Hope everyone has a lovely day :)

elliepac · 07/11/2010 12:21

Spectacularly unproductive this morning. Have baked cakes with DC's, started SUnday lunch and that's about it!

We have, however, found out why DS's Wii wasn't working. We thought the disc drive was knackered. Turns out DD had 5!!! discs in there! DS now thinks his dad is the cleverest person in the universe because he has fixed it.....he'll soon learn WinkGrin.

Dolanette · 07/11/2010 12:25

Thank you for the lovely Welcome

Today is Sunday so family day, not too much flying!

Little list
Hoover Stairs
S&S Kitchen
Declutter/S&S Living room table
Sort out pile of laundry on ironing board

Hope everyone has lovely day Smile

Toffeefudgecake · 07/11/2010 12:26

Am really enjoying this decluttering lark. DH was astonished at how ruthless I'm being (have been reading that decluttering book you recommended, Linzer). DH took another load down to the dump this morning and I have sorted out bagfuls of old clothes to pass on to another mum and to school (for fund-raising). The children have been watching far too much telly though Blush.

Finishing the bedroom today, then taking 4-yr-old DS2 to birthday party this afternoon. DS1 will have to tag along, which he'll hate, but DH is off visiting his mum, so DS doesn't have a choice.

Welcome to Cakecuresall and Dolanette. Can honestly say Flying has made a difference to me Smile.

Highlighter - thinking of you. Hope your DT2 is on the mend.

geekygiraffe · 07/11/2010 12:52

We're doing the house up at the moment, which is fantastic as we have to empty each room as we go. All ornaments/general housey crap in boxes so we'll have to choose which we unpack. Getting rid of lots of books and clothes too.
Sadly a lot is going in the attic (compromise place - I'm a ruthless declutterer. DH isn't), but at least I can't see it there, and at 27wks pregnant won't fit thru' opening either!
Not doing much housework today, just keeping on top of things. The missions are easier to achieve than the babysteps - don't bother with the post-its or affirmation notes tbh. Or even getting dressed today ; 0

Stillconfounded · 07/11/2010 17:42

Hello! I'm back! (with a slight name variation but remain SC)

Lots and lots of activity on here as usual and loads to catch up on. I can see DEM/DID has been keeping you on your toes.

For the moment though, a very warm welcome to all newcomers and Highlighter sorry to hear about your dt2 - hope he is OK - sending lots of positive thoughts. And hope Sitting's dd feeling better now too.

Returned late last night. Blighty was great in terms of catching up with family and friends but rest of the trip was a bit underwhelming: I didn't feel particularly well for half of it, dh and I were bickering rather a lot at the beginning (because he usually works non-stop it takes us at least a week to get back in to the groove of being together in "holiday mode" by which time we usually have to go back to work!) and dd accidentally broke a rather expensive piece of glass at bil's and he wasn't amused ...

House an absolute tip upon return so will have to get cracking with the Flying properly tomorrow.

Apologies for lack of individual messages ... we've been out to friends for long lunch today and so I now have to track down school uniform and iron it ...

Mahoosive waves to everyone. See you in the morning.

CakeCuresAll · 07/11/2010 18:07

Hi everyone :)

Thanks for the welcomes!

Have been quite productive - for a sunday!

Todays list:

washing x 2
clear out kitchen cupboards
put away clothes
made up snack and breakfast pots for next few days
sorted out nappy box
stripped beds
went out to mums - ended up staying 5 hours! (poor little brother has broken up with his first love, it's carnage!)
made dinner
cleaned kitchen - dd made fruit salad Shock
and I'm about to put ds to bed and clean the bathroom.

Hope everyones do well today!

Tomorrow I'll be working so not much will get done in the house. We leave at 7 am and never get home before 8. I pretty much just chuck the kids in bed and collapse!

LinzerTorte · 07/11/2010 19:18

Evening all,

The DC are in bed, DH is in the bath (apparently he thought I would appreciate some time to myself!), I've finally hung up the washing to time so open the wine. Grin It's been quite a tiring weekend - I worked all Saturday morning (quite stressful) but managed to finish about 15 minutes before we were due to meet up with our friends so managed to get out in the afternoon, and DH and I haven't been getting along particularly well for the last few days either (so I'm hoping the wine this evening will help!).

We did manage to do some decluttering in the playroom however, and even managed to persuade the DC to part with a few games - our church is having a flea market in a couple of weeks, so it seemed like a good opportunity to get rid of a few things (we live in a decent sized town, but it doesn't have a single charity shop). Hope the book is proving useful, Toffee - I find decluttering quite addictive!

Good to see you back SC, but sorry to hear that your trip wasn't an overwhelming success. I often find that trips back to the UK are a bit of an anticlimax - I look forward to them for weeks and the first few days are great, but after a couple of days with my family and getting all my shopping done, start looking forward to coming back home!

Cake Well done on your productive day.

geeky It sounds like we're in a similar situation with our DHs - mine is also a bit of a hoarder (although we have a cellar rather than an attic).

Welcome Dolanette. Smile

ellie Baking cakes and making Sunday lunch sounds very productive to me (more than I usually manage on a Sunday morning!).

Bob Hope you managed your productive afternoon.

DEM DD2 was very excited to receive your DS's card on Friday and has plans to send something back to him. Grin

Right, must try and look productive for when DH comes downstairs - one of his complaints was about how much time I spend on the computer (although it's not half as much as it used to be). Although I think I might have to kill him anyway - he's only gone and bought himself the Lego medieval village that I was planning to get him. Aargh!

BobLoblaw · 07/11/2010 19:43

Welcome Cakecuresall and Dolanette

It was productive until the f1 started Linzer then I was sucked in. I quite like decluttering too although I really need to start shifting it out of the garage before dp notices Grin Hope you have a nice evening.

Sorry your trip wasn't upto much SC I need to get on with flying this week too, but dp is off work which seems to throw a spanner in the works usually Confused

We're starting on the house after christmas geeky to say I'm dreading it would be an understatement, will be good to thoroughly sort everything though, sounds like you're doing really well.

Hope you had a nice afternoon Toffee and ds1 wasn't too put out. Which decluttering book are you reading? I'm an ex-hoarder trying to get my head around getting rid of stuff.

Cakes and lunch sounds like a perfect sunday ellie and a genius dh too Grin

Today
-Make beds done
-Deep clean bathroom done
-Washing done
-Iron unifom
-Pack school bags done
-Hoover throughout done
-Clean mirrors done
-Make dinner done
-Wash dc bedding done
So I still need to iron but I did manage a run to the tip and topping up the oil in my car.

At school with dd tomorrow although I am going to leave her for an hour (which I'm completely panicking about) then planning office with dp, so routines and mission will be about it. Which zone are we in next week?

NettieSnowBalls · 07/11/2010 19:45

DancingIceDragons · 07/11/2010 19:54

fuck, just wondered why ds is running amoke and i want to kill shut him out. despite having been given sleep meds, little toad decided not to drink them. Normally really good about doing it Angry
he has been told to tidy his bedroom until the kick in or he gets no tv.

I have discovered the bathroom. There is nothing in the bath - the boxes have been moved done stairs ready for sorting and burning sensitive stuff tomo. Because it was sooo disgusting under the clutter, despite having been cleaned orsoithought. I have:
bleached the floor
cleaned the toilet outside
Soaking the inside in cleaner
Soaking stuff in the bath to disinfect
Soaking stuff in the sink to disinfect
cleaned mirror once.
Thrown old toilet cleaning brush and put new one into service.
Got old toilet brush soaking in bleach.

Which means by the time the child has gone to sleep i can have a lovely soak in the bath, in peace, in a bathroom that is so clean that it sparkles (with the exception of the shower, which I will think about tackling tomo)

As for the list i cant tick anything off as there is a storm brewing and ds has been going bonkers.

BobLoblaw · 07/11/2010 19:57

I meant to say thank you OM for answering my question, I took ds to the book shop yesterday and he chose a couple of books, when I went into his bedroom this morning he was awake in bed reading, and he stayed there for quite a while then wanted to tell me all about it :) Parents evening this week, so will have a chat to his teacher. Secret Agent Jack Stalwart is a lot more interesting than Biff and Chip though Grin

DancingIceDragons · 07/11/2010 20:06

Have you tried the dinosaur cove series Bob? ds loves them. And the old grafield cartoon books.

MiniMarmite · 07/11/2010 20:13

Evening All,

Bless you OM - really no need to do that though x.

Highlighter how is DT2 today? I know you might not be able to reply but just wanted to let you know I'm thinking of you x.

Sorry for lack of more prolific personal messages (as always from me at the moment)!

Hope you are all having a good weekend.

MrsDinky · 07/11/2010 20:17

Evening all,

Bob I agree that any reading is good, Biff and Chip drive me a bit nuts sometimes (DS is enjoying them at the moment but we have had patches when he went right off them).

DID - you'll be well ahead for the bathroom zone when it comes round.

Cake - that's a long working day, you must need a super duper Sunday evening routine for that.

SC - welcome back.

PA - if you're lurking, thinking about you today, less than a week to go now.

Swimming with the DCs this morning, DD has made a lot of progress recently, which is lovely to see as it took her a very long time to get her water confidence up compared to DS.

Home for lunch and then out for a walk round our favourite local NT property, the DCs love playing hide and seek there, the trees in the late afternoon sunshine were stunning.

Going to head off now as need to do lots of bits of jobs before bedtime. See you tomorrow.

highlighterpen · 07/11/2010 20:35

Hello all,
Thank you for all your kind messages. DT2 and I are back home now - he seemed so pleased to be able to settle into his own cot. They were brill at the hospital - made what could have been a very traumatic experience less scary for both of us.

Back to FLYing tomorrow. Sorry I haven't had time to catch up properly with the news on the thread.

LinzerTorte · 07/11/2010 20:38

That's great news, highlighter. Smile

DancingIceDragons · 07/11/2010 20:54

Dont worry about catching up, jump back in as and where you can. Family first.

Brilliant news about DT2 Grin
