Remember Remember, Fledglings Fly through November

DidEinsteinsMum · 28/10/2010 23:58

Welcome to the November Fledgling Flying thread.

From the 1st of the month we shall be decluttering and taming the chaos using baby steps, missions and zones. A great big thank you to MrsDinky who looked after us last month.

We are not strict followers of the fat fairy and take some of the babysteps wearing shoes indoors with a pinch of salt. Also advise against signing up for the fairy's emails.

All are welcome, jump on board for one of our three methods of chaos attack:

  1. Baby steps
  2. Baby steps and 15mins decluttering in current zone
  3. Re-inforce the baby steps and daily mission

This month the fat fairy is gearing up for the feastive period. So I shall also post the christmas mission for those who wish are brave enough to look.

In here the motto is:

*"No perfection! Do what you can, but be realistic about what you can do."

Happy flying.

systems I am of course talking about his TV which I clearly omitted to mention Blush.

systemsaddict · 06/11/2010 08:31

elliepac we can co-ordinate efforts, I need to kill dcs too, who were up too late watching fireworks out the window and are very grumpy today.

We have people here this evening to watch the local major fireworks extravaganza from the back garden so today needs to be very organised! Plan is:

  • get kids dressed
  • shower and dress to shoes
  • make chilli x 2 and parkin
  • tidy downstairs
  • vacuum everywhere
  • toys in baskets in kids' rooms
  • clean bathroom and toilet, and clean towels
  • remove leaves from back garden
  • prep salad, jacket potatoes, nibbly bits
  • drink!

actually that looks less scary than I imagined. Dd is insisting on watching Boris Johnson (she is obsessed with the mumsnet interview on the home page Confused) so will check back in later

BobLoblaw · 06/11/2010 08:51

Morning :) dp let me sleep in with dd and just delivered tea and toast, so a nice start to the day.

Question for OM DS is a little fed up of ORT books, he spent the last week reading autosport magazine! I'm trying to encourage him to read his school books but he'd much rather read The Secret Seven or Swallows and Amazons, is that ok? I;m erring on the side of just being happy he's reading something.

Thanks for the links DeM , dd can't do fireworks either, I feel your pain.

Ooh MM such an exciting time, I've never seen a cook, looks yummy.

Well today will be mainly devoid of flying, about to do my morning routine, then we're going out. Have a nice day everyone :)

Hope you're ok

Mmm systems chilli and parkin Envy

highlighterpen · 06/11/2010 09:09

Apologies for short message - on my phone. Poor DT2 has been admitted to hospital with pneumonia so I am with him and will have to resume flying when we are safely home. He is on IV antibiotics and oxygen. Bit scary but he is in the right place. Please send positive thoughts his way.
(am keeping his hospital room clutter-free and clean though so with you in spirit)

BobLoblaw · 06/11/2010 09:17

Oh no highlighter :( , how scary, lots of positive thoughts on their way to you.

elliepac · 06/11/2010 09:26

My morning hasnt exactly started to plan. Someone very kindly gave me a cup of coffee to help wake me up. Which i promtly knocked over. I havent moved so fast to get out of bed in a long while.

So far this morning:

LinzerTorte · 06/11/2010 09:48

Oh highlighter, how horrible for you - lots of positive thoughts winging their way from here too. Like you say, at least he's in the best place; I hope he starts to improve very soon.

Minimal flying going on here; DH has taken the DC out so I can work. Am hoping to go out for a walk with friends this afternoon depending on how much I manage to get done now, so had better get back to it... Waves to all.

CakeCuresAll · 06/11/2010 09:50

Morning everyone :)

I am new to flying and was thrilled to find a MN team too!

I am restarting today after a blip but very determined to make a go of it!

So, baby steps here I come.

todays list:

get dressed to shoes.
get dc washed and dressed.
washing 1 on - 3 to go.
tidy and clean kitchen.
tidy and clean front room.
decluter hallway.
drop by the charity clothing bin - DD loves putting things in that bin!

Looking forward to getting tips and motivation from you all :)

Highlighter - hope dt2 recovers quickly.

Hope everyone has a productive day.

MiniMarmite · 06/11/2010 09:55

highlighter thinking of you xxx

sittinghippo · 06/11/2010 10:25

Highlighter positive thoughts your way.

DID what a waste of a coffee! I really hope it hasnt spoiled your Xmas present creation.

Welcome cakecuresall great name! Great motto.

Not posted for a couple of days again (where does the time go?). Have been pretty good and kept up with my baby steps so miraculously my house isnt looking too bad on the whole.
Just some of the real basics make a huge difference, the daily wash load, therefore 15 minutes of ironing, making beds and swish and swiping.

DD was poorly yesterday, with this vomiting bug that seems to be going round. So that put paid to her sleepover at her aunts, and the fireworks display at.the school. A very sad little girl, but thankfully she seems back to normal today.

Waves to all.

Not going to go mad today, just a quick flick round and a 15 minute declutter ready for next weeks zone.... ooh where's it gonna be?! Grin

swanriver · 06/11/2010 10:31

Highlighter very best thoughts - it's like being pulled in two when one twin is poorly. How old are your twins, I am presuming they are under one?

Well, my twins have just bopped each other over the head, dt1 (dd) has flounced off to choir in a screaming frenzy, and dt2 (ds2) is howling at the top of the stairs although we are meant to be going to football.
Ds1 wisely left the house a hour ago to go to music.
Dh has been a semi-irritable mood but picked some flowers from the garden and that has cheered him up Grin(except when he couldn't find a vase the right size - every now and then he discovers I have decluttered something which he only uses every four years)

done
dusted living room
(still not swept up ash Blush)
found dd's music folder under a pile of anoraks
dw on
white wash on
rescued hall
wiped table
dressed by 9am

swanriver · 06/11/2010 10:34

DID what were you thinking re: alchohol? I drank only one glass of rose the whole party Grin too much and I go up in sparks. Anyway there were quite enough tipsy people around me...

Toffeefudgecake · 06/11/2010 11:50

Highlighter - so sorry to hear your news. Hope DT2 gets better very soon. Look after yourself too.

Big declutter here today as we are preparing DS2's bedroom for MIL's convalescence. It is actually very good to have a deadline as it is kickstarting us into action. DH was astonished when I agreed to him taking DS1's games table to the dump (he's lost most of the games and the table takes up too much space in his bedroom). I have been meaning to sell it for ages, but never got round to it. Just want to be shot of it now.

Taking boys out to do errands in town now, leaving DH to start putting up the new bed. He is under strict instructions not to throw away ANYTHING unless I've checked it first (otherwise he always throws away stuff I want - like all my most important documents one time, including birth certificate Angry).

Have a good day all (and hope your day gets better, Highlighter).

SylviaPankhurst · 06/11/2010 12:22

Highlighter sorry to hear your news.

I had a blip yesterday and did no flying at all. Bonfire night party tonight for my DD who is 15 and has invited 16 friends for a sleepover and promises it will be ok!

So today I have

come back here!
washing x1
Dishwasher
Quick kitchen tidy

To do

More washing
Drying
Putting away
Swish and swipe
Hoover living room
stairs!!!

optimisticmumma · 06/11/2010 12:24

Highlighter - thinking of you and hoping DT2 gets better very soon...look after yourself, won't you?

Bob - don't worry about asking me stuff I really don't mind. I'm not surprised your DS is fed up with ORT. There's nothing magical about any school scheme imo. Breadth of reading is v. important and it's everything and anything particularly with boys who can become v reluctant readers. My class are obssessed with the Horrible History/Science magazines which they are allowed to read in class as they are Enid Blyton!!Shock Main thing is that he chooses to read so keep encouraging it!

Anyway, flying....
Up, showered, dressed to the fitflops (it is a beautiful day here as I keep telling my DC who are still in their pjs
DS1 gone to rugby match (watching, he's captain, due to aforementioned black/cut eye)
DH gone to Twickenham to watch rugby Envy
DD gone and back from tap and completed physics test (urgh)
Full English x5 cooked and eaten
laundry rebooted
town for errands todo
Strip beds todo
swish and swipe todo

Quick question: does anyone know how to 'force' hyacinths for xmas? My first attempt has seen them go mouldy so I need to start again. Getting a bit 'kirsty's Homemade Christmas' round here!!!!

DancingIceDragons · 06/11/2010 13:45

MiniMarmite · 06/11/2010 14:46

OM never used Cook before TBH but had something from there at a friend's house once (just after they had their first child) so thought it seemed like a good idea.

Do you happen to know if the portion sizes tend to be reasonable? I was thinking of ordering 2 portion meals but they would need to go between 3 of us (including DS who is 2 but has a pretty good appetite). I didn't want to waste 4 portion meals and I guess you can't reheat as they are frozen (if you choose the home delivery option).

elliepac · 06/11/2010 18:52

Evening all! Well I got no further than earlier really. Did tesco and then everything came to a grinding halt! However, instead we managed a family trip to the local country park for duck feeding, leaf kicking and tree climbing on a lovely autumnal afternoon. Just what the doctor ordered Smile. Came back, cooked dinner watched a film all together and have just despatched very tired dc's to bed early. This now leaves me free to enjoy strictly and x-factor in peace and quiet with a small glass of wine.

A massive fledgling welcome to cakescureall and big waves to everyone else! Going to enjoy some time to myself!

Toffeefudgecake · 06/11/2010 18:56

Very productive day today. Took boys into town this morning to do errands and give DH time to take loads of stuff down to the dump. Bought DS2 some new school shoes (he was very chuffed - they had a little man and car hidden in the soles, which he's been playing with ever since) and ordered new glasses for DS1 (yet another smashed pair - he says it was another accident Hmm).

Have spent the afternoon decluttering DS2's bedroom so that DH could set up the new single bed ready for MIL when she comes to convalesce (we only had a cotbed in there). It was wonderful to throw so much away - felt really liberating. DH has now assembled the new bed.

Stopping for a glass of wine now before getting DS2 to bed. More decluttering tomorrow Smile.

DancingIceDragons · 06/11/2010 20:41

will do links in a mo.

Dolanette · 06/11/2010 21:04

Hello all, can I fly with you!! Have been living in Chaos for a while Shock. Am def not a domestic goddess but in the last few days, I've starting flying!! Shined my sink, decluttered, did loads of brushing, mopping, wiping today! V proud of myself. Looking forward to reading your routines/stories/etc. Smile

MrsDinky · 06/11/2010 21:50

Hello and welcome to cakecuresall and Dolanette.

Highlighter sorry to hear about DT, thinking of you all.

OM- you really need to start hyacinths for Christmas in September.... you need special forcing ones, plant them and keep them in a cool dark place for a couple of months, when the stalk is about 5cm high bring them into the house to a shady spot for a few days then to a windowsill, they will flower after 2-3 weeks.

DID wow you have been busy.

We have just got back from taking the DCs to their first ever firework display, they though it was very noisy but very pretty. It was about a mile away in a neighbouring village, it was nice walking through all the crunchy leaves by torchlight with the neighbours. Minimal Flying but never mind. Was annoyed to find Sky+ had neglected to record Strictly, so I'm stuck with Iplayer on the Ipad, which is a bit small for this sort of programme but never mind.

Night all.

optimisticmumma · 06/11/2010 22:42

MM - I will make a special visit for you to Cook on Monday to check out the portion sizes!
I'm afraid I always use them for birthday cake(choc fudge), and puds - banoffee pie(yum), choc roulade, cheesecake they are all absolutely delicious!! Can also vouch for shepherd's pie, thai chicken curry and beef bourgignon . luckily I have a friend who works in the shop and gets me a discount!! Had a very funny occasion once when my DC were at primary school and we went round to a mum's house for Boxing Day football and lunch. As she produced a wonderful choice of food I told her I was in awe of her organisation and cooking skills having had her family for Christmas dinner the day before. She smiled serenely and said it was nothing... Only later did I find out it was all reheated from 'Cook'!!! Really odd for me as I would be the first to say 'well I got it all from Cook'....people are odd!!
Mrs D thanks for tips. I hope to salvage my bulbs but think I overwatered them somewhat. They are special forced ones and I did them a couple of weeks ago. Presumably they are not supposed to be watered to start with??

BIg wave to everyone else. Talk tomorrow...

DidEinsteinsMum · 06/11/2010 23:54
