I have just changed my lounge grey carpet for a lovely oak floor but something just doesn’t look right . My sofas are mid charcoal leather and silver grey chenille curtains. Any suggestions/ help needed.

I think what you've got in the last few photos looks better with a mix of colours with what you've got

SwedishEdith · 30/01/2023 21:49

What about this rug? www.habitat.co.uk/product/9338254

Krakenes · 30/01/2023 22:47

I think that rug above is too harsh, the sofas are very harsh due to the colour and material. I’d soften it with a faded style rug that’s big enough to go under the sofas, then have more random cushions rather than matching.

Krakenes · 30/01/2023 22:50

If you’re feeling more fun and want to pick out some cushion covers, this will cover all basis. ruggable.co.uk/products/iris-apfel-jingle-jungle-rug?size=150x215

Plum and yellow is this what you mean ?

I like this much better. You don't need the extra grey on the sofas

Holmfirthrita · 31/01/2023 08:06

That’s a colour I hadn’t thought of for sure.
I already have yellow plum and orange was wondering more which out of those st moment put with one grey check as previous photos thx I will consider teal in the future xx

A rug like this would lighten the room and tie it all together.

You're fixating too much on the cushions. In all honesty if you are going to have 2 identical cushions in one colour and 2 identical in another it will never look amazing, no matter the colour combination. The best rooms look like they've evolved organically over time with some variety in pattern, size and texture.

Your best bet is to focus on finding a rug that you love, and then use the colours on that as a starting point for the rest of the room.

ApolloandDaphne · 31/01/2023 09:06

Just literally sling all the cushions on in any random way. I agree it needs to look less 'done'.

beachcitygirl · 31/01/2023 09:09

Your lovely new floor is warm and the Grey too cold. Rug too small. What about introducing some warm accessories? Rust perhaps?

Did the mustard cushions look too cold and needing something warmer like the burnt orange

You need to lift, not darken. The fireplace looks really out of place, and it's why your sofas look strange against the floor.

The rug is terrible, cheapens the room and makes it look small. You need a large cream/pale beige rug.

You need some black in the room to ground it, I would recommend some cream and black cushions, berber style.

The curtains are also not great. They're too short and totally the wrong colour, again, I'd go beige.

It really depends on the look you're going for. I think black, dark grey and neutrals e.g. beige/cream give a sophisticated, modern look, but you need hard elements to ground it. Not everyone's cup of tea.

sevenbyseven · 31/01/2023 09:45

I think it looks lovely with the burnt orange cushions in the most recent photo. I agree with the previous poster, forget about the cushions now and add some other interest / personal touches to the room such as artwork.

Happygone · 31/01/2023 10:00

The cushions won't make much difference. It's the rug and curtains you need to look at.

Holmfirthrita · 31/01/2023 10:05

do you think a nice cream chenille ( which I like) colour would go with my room instead of the silver which I gave and have floor length?

I think you need a patterned rug in warm colours.

Holmfirthrita · 31/01/2023 10:47

No I meant curtains cream floor length I can then look for patterned rug or did you mean my curtain colour in silver is fine with a patterned rug?sorry should have explained better x

The problem is as well where the fireplace is at an angle and now I have this wood floor it highlights it more as the rug looks odd against the fireplace . When I had carpet I didn’t need a rug hence my issue 😢 x
