I have just changed my lounge grey carpet for a lovely oak floor but something just doesn’t look right . My sofas are mid charcoal leather and silver grey chenille curtains. Any suggestions/ help needed.

Burnt orange looks good.
I think anything with autumnal colours will look good.

Does anyone think maybe a burnt orange plain rug would go ? Similar to the grey one I have but similar colour to the new cushions??

I think you run the risk of the room looking a bit matchy rather than things just complimenting each other. A patterned rug that has some burnt orange in would look better, or else a neutral one.

In the first picture the PP posted below see how the cushions are different shapes and textures...this looks good.

Holmfirthrita · 28/01/2023 11:26

yes they look great. do you think a burnt orange rug would go as well plain or stick to a neutral? i am def getting some floor length curtains . Dunelm do a door curtain that will be the right length without altering so a win there but limited to colour as patterns wont match. They do cream, silver which i have or charcoal grey. which would you go for? They are the luxury chenille .
thank you to all for your great suggestions. You know how you get in your comfort zone sometimes that is what i have done with those damn yellow cushions!!!!! Aaah be gone. Burnt orange from now on.

yes think you are right with the rug will look for a neutral or patterned with orange in. Curtains more of a problem due to the 3 windows

Cream curtains definitely, stay away from anything silver or grey.

DaVariance · 28/01/2023 11:30

You need splashes of colour on the walls like pictures, photos etc to break it up a bit

Vase with flowers, more colourful cushions and a colourful blanket over the sofa, or lampshade etc

So many little things you can do without too much change or expense

DaVariance · 28/01/2023 11:30

You definitely need a coffee table to break the room up

coralgeo · 28/01/2023 11:33

I thought the same about needing a coffee table. It doesn't need to be big

coralgeo · 28/01/2023 11:35

I'd get a small round one as the room already has awkward angles

Holmfirthrita · 28/01/2023 12:04

Yes see what you mean. Had one a got rid as the dog struggled to get on the sofa!!!! with it > maybe should have kept it . food for thought though as one may look nice. all these ideas are great giving me so much to think about. Just changing the cushions at the moment has made a big difference. Keep the ideas coming thx

Can you take a photo from the doorway so we can see the rest of the room?

Holmfirthrita · 28/01/2023 13:01

It is L shaped with fireplace at an angle and 3 bay windows the last one is with the old yellow cushions so you can compare and just see which is best thx

Can anyone suggest a suitable rug with burnt orange tones

Check Argos op, there's usually good selection and reasonable priced.;)

LibertyLily · 28/01/2023 17:30

There are loads out there - a Google image search delivers dozens. An idea of your budget would help - we bought a 4 x 3m rug for £400+ on irugs during the pandemic and equally have spent as little as £50 on a fleamarket rug and as much as £2k on antique rugs.

As I said before irugs (and I'm sure they're not alone in this) have a great visualiser so you can 'try before you buy' (kind of!).

I do wonder with your angled chimney breast and L-shaped room if a circular or oval rug might work better.

Holmfirthrita · 28/01/2023 17:43

Will try your suggestions thx. Does room look better with these orange cushions? Rather than yellow xx

Definitely prefer the burnt orange to the yellow! Much warmer looking. Think you still need more warmth/texture/pattern though - don't worry about clashing, you don't want it too matchy, imho.

I'm currently playing with cushions in our living room and am struggling to get the right balance as we have at least seven different colours going on in the space 😂

I'm trying to include a mix of sizes and shapes too....

Princesspollyyy · 28/01/2023 19:46

Wow OP!

Those burnt orange cushions make such a difference!!! It looks amazing now. All you need is a different rug x

Holmfirthrita · 28/01/2023 19:59

Thank you that’s so good to hear xxx eyes peeled for my rug . Plain or patterned. I like the burnt orange and wouldn’t mind a plain orange rug but if I could see a nice patterned one . Xxxxx

You need a larger lighter coloured rug….those curtains need to go …..the sofas just don’t go with the floor

kitcat15 · 28/01/2023 20:07

The orange is better than the yellow

Holmfirthrita · 28/01/2023 20:51

Thx getting some floor length curtains and looking for a rug xx would the light natural colour in next go do you think x
