Royal Mail has lost my passport sent for renewal, please help!

Hi, I sent my child’s expired passport by tracked signed for guaranteed next day delivery on Monday. It should have been delivered Tuesday. Royal Mail tracking service just says it is in transit. I am kind of assuming it is lost as no update since Tuesday.
I had made an application to renew my child’s passport online and was sending the expired old passport as directed.
Please can anyone advise what I need to do now ?

I wouldnt worry too much. This happened with mine too.. Passport office dont sign for it or something. I expect you'll have it all back within a week or so. When are you travelling? Suggest you check your passport account, it might show "uodate" or "apprived" or "printing" or somesuch to indicate old passporthas arrived. It probably isnt lost.

I had the same situation. I had paid for Fast Track but couldn't get hold of anyone by phone or email when it did not arrive. In the end, I sent messages by Twitter, received my passport very quickly and got reimbursed for the Fast Track fees

I paid for signed for when I sent my expired passport this week - the post office said if it is lost in transit they will refund the cost of the application and you start again applying for a lost passport instead. However I would wait at least another week or so before assuming this is what’s happened (if you can!)

Thank you. I rang Royal Mail, the man said he was certain that it had been delivered, just not updated on Royal Mail system.
I paid £6.85 for tracked, signed for, next day delivery. But man I spoke to was so certain that I will leave it a few days x

Just wondered what the outcome was with the passport renewal, how long did it take? The same thing has just happened to me I sent my sons passport of over a week ago and the tracking hasn't changed to say they have received it.

I sent a coat back to Brand Alley just after Christmas, it is still in transit.

In the real world, the money is back in my account, I think when the Royal Mail were hit hard by Covid in January the fine tuning went by the board.

I also filled in the forms to receive my pension payments, that letter is still allegedly in transit but the money is dropping into my account.

My passport was the same and I thought mine was lost too. Then I got an email saying they had received it. Then another saying it was being printed and then one today saying it was despatched.

My 'passport received' email was on February 9th and hopefully I should be getting the new one in the next few days,

Sent on the February 9th
Received by them on February 21st
Sent back to me today, haven't got it today, just the email to say it was despatched today.

Mine was at Liverpool.

I sent one that way too, they did receive it the next day or the one after that but it took ages to be updated on Royal Mail. I think I got the new passport before receiving the info that the old one had been received.

@GloriaSilver did you ever get this resolved?
I sent my sons to the Bootle office tracked and signed for and they only received an empty envelope - so someone had obviously had it out. Wondered if similar happened to you?
It’s taken them a month and 6 requests to cancel his passport too before I can change application type. Right headache!!!

The same has happened to me, this week. Posted on 1st and it updated as received yesterday on passport tracking but it still doesnt say as delivered on the RM website

My passport was sent to Liverpool on 28th Feb, received according to royal mail tracked recorded delivery the next day and was approved and sent back on 8th.

Sadly my ds went to Glasgow same date and received at the same time, still showing on the passport tracker as awaiting the old passport. Trying not to worry as they say its on average 8 working days from receiving old passport to updating the tracker!!!

I sent my daughters old passport back last Friday on a guaranteed next day special delivery service. It’s not arrived as expected I know some of you said the tracking didn’t update. I just wondered at what point it stopped updating? Did it get to out for delivery? Mine seems to be stuck waiting to go to another sorting office?? I’m super stressed!

There's an issue with the tracker being updated due to the passport office being very busy, and it's taking a while to show up that documents are received. If your documents were tracked it should be signed for by hmpo, which you can check with Royal Mail. If its been over 8 working days you can phone the helpline and they will put out a search for it.

Mine took 3.5 weeks for the passport office to show as having received it-I actually didn’t track using Rm check. I received the new one a week later.

I had this issue with corby apparently they dont sign for it. It will have been delivered

This is where I’m upto. Does this look right? It doesn’t look like it’s made it to Corby delivery office. Do they not get scanned it at the delivery office? Sorry for all the questions.

I sent my old passport and My valid [birth country] one on the 24th February 2022.
I tracked it a week later, only for it to show that it has been accepted at the post office I went too.
I went to the post office and spoke to the man there who said they send those tracked and signed on the same day.
Almost 3 weeks and still no update or moved on the Royal Mail system.
Had to put in a claim with Royal Mail, I have tried to call HM Passport Office only to get through to customer service and then be put through to yet another customer service department??? Huh??Confused

Reported the expired British one as lost earlier today and got sent an email back about it being cancelled within 20 minutes. I have to call my country’s embassy to report my [birth country] passport lost.
It’s a nightmare.

The office has a general helpline for basic enquiries and some separate departments for more complex problems to do with individual cases.

It's actually helpful to hear it's not just us! I posted two passports on 8th March (had to as a dual national) 1st class signed for, neither PostOffice or passport office have a record of delivery as of yesterday, I checked online and spoke with both twice. Super stressed.

Hi did yours ever arrive, exactly the same thing is happening to me now. We sent my sons over a week ago tracked next day and signed and it’s still showing in transit to Corby.
