Royal Mail has lost my passport sent for renewal, please help!

Hi, I sent my child’s expired passport by tracked signed for guaranteed next day delivery on Monday. It should have been delivered Tuesday. Royal Mail tracking service just says it is in transit. I am kind of assuming it is lost as no update since Tuesday.
I had made an application to renew my child’s passport online and was sending the expired old passport as directed.
Please can anyone advise what I need to do now ?

Final update from me!
Application for child renewal submitted on 10th March, passport posted 11th via special delivery, it took until 22nd March for passport office to acknowledge receipt of the old passport and to this day the tracking on Royal Mail still says it’s not yet been delivered.
Passport was printed on Friday 25th March and was physically in my hand at 9am this morning. It’s taken 25 days from start to finish. This was Corby passport office. Hope everyone gets their passports back in time.

Phew that’s good similar timeframes to me then.

There are people on another thread waiting 10+ weeks but for most people it would appear about a month or so is accurate

@cazi77 thank you for your update. Mine is also at Corby but they still say they haven't received my passport which I sent to them on 15th. Fingers crossed I hear this week. So pleased you have yours xx

I am concerned about passport renewals. Sent mum’s passport to Glasgow PO on 18 Mar via 1st Class sign for - doesn’t show via RM as being delivered and PO tracker is still saying send your old passport.

Sent my renewal to Corby PO on 25 Mar 1st Class sign for - showed as delivered in the RM tracker on 29 Mar, rec’d a text today - 04 Apr from PO saying my old passport has been rec’d

I filled a query form on the PO website for my Mum’s passport as this is very concerning.

Should I report the passport lost and reapply?
Or is this a Glasgow Post Office issue?

@Westend when do you travel. Mighy be worth leaving it a little longer if you can afford the time. I sent mine to Corby via RM signed for on 15th March and it took until 31st for the tracking to update. I've still not heard anything from passport office confirming receipt but they have assured me I should hear this week. I've also booked a fast track appointment for 14th just in case it does turn out to be lost.

We sent 5 passport renewal 29th March
All but 2 weee to separate offices. All sent guaranteed next day by 1pm

Here is where we are up to with them all

Mine- sent 29th March- email today 8th April approved and sent for printing

DS1- sent 29th March- douments received text from HMPO 1st April. Been processing since 2nd April

DS2- sent 29th March. Royal Mail website says on transit and HMPO says send documents (stressed!!!!!)

DS3 and DD1- sent to same office 29th March. Delivered by Royal Mail next day. Updated as documents received 6th April however not changed to processing

Booked to travel end of may and stressed that we won’t have them all back on time- especially if DS 2 application has gone walkies in the post 😩😩😩

Reassured you hear others have had similar- will keep checking in and see how others get on

Which office are the ones that are still in transit according to Royal Mail? If it’s corby you don’t need to worry.

Sent mine to Durham 2 weeks ago and just received a text to say they have not received it. Have bloody lost the Royal Mail receipt so have no idea if it made it to Durham or not. We go on holiday in 5 weeks so really anxious!

Is it still possible to turn up in person and get one done the same day? Weighing up options here...

When I phones a Royal Mail about mine they said it’s not the passport office Is it hang on hang on. Oh yes it’s the passport office! They said most of the passport offices are receiving 3 x the amount of mail at the moment and at some of them the mail isn’t being scanned in due to the sheer volume. I wasn’t best pleased as I’d paid for a service to confirm delivery. It took just under 2 weeks to up date to say they had got it. I was very twitchy and was looking at dates to go down in person to sort. Just hang fire doing it tho and give it into next week. Chances are they have it. That part of the process was by far the slowest and I got my daughters new passport 25days after initial application. Most of that was waiting for it to change to documents received.

I knew my tracking number off by heart! To this day it still shows as awaiting delivered. New passport is in my house!!!

Update from me, my passport was sent to Corby on 15th March. Updated on Royal mail 31st. Receive text to confirm receipt on 6th April and ive just had a text to say its been approved . Agree with everyone else that the slowest part is waiting for them to acknowledge receipt of the old passport x

Also in the same boat. Posted 3 passports to Durham (for renewal) signed for on 28th - no update on tracking except for having received my letter at the local post office, not delivered yet. No update on passport service tracking - still says send your passport! This thread is giving me hope tho! Good luck everyone 👍

I think they should say tracking your old passport delivery will send you slowly mad & it’s best just to stick a second class stamp on it & be done with it 🤣

DS2 passport application has now changed to documents received even though the Royal Mail tracking hasn't changed 😂

We are having the same issues. Sent DS2’s passport off for child renewal and DS1 for child to adult passport on 24th March. They went to 2 different addresses. DS2’s application all ok, passport approved and processed. DS1’s just says waiting to be delivered. I called HMPO yesterday and they said to assume it’s lost but to give until next Friday and then start a lost passport application. We were hoping to go away May half term but not looking likely at the moment.

Which office did you send them to? It's such a stress isn't it!!
Have you checked the passport applications also for updates?

Durham. I have checked the applications for updates and nothing - just says send your passport. Argh! It is such a stress indeed. Trying not to but if nothing by the end of this week I think they might be lost…

Yes I agree :-( give until end of week and then report as lost I would say. When are you due to travel?

My DS1 was received first and has been 'processing' since the 1st April- 3 other passports that I have sent have been processed and approved since then! Makes absolutely no sense how they manage it all 😩 considering the cost to get them done, the service isn't the best is it! Lol
