Royal Mail has lost my passport sent for renewal, please help!

Hi, I sent my child’s expired passport by tracked signed for guaranteed next day delivery on Monday. It should have been delivered Tuesday. Royal Mail tracking service just says it is in transit. I am kind of assuming it is lost as no update since Tuesday.
I had made an application to renew my child’s passport online and was sending the expired old passport as directed.
Please can anyone advise what I need to do now ?

Not yet - will give it a few more days. Fingers crossed your will come up as delivered soon. I hope they're all stuck in a massive 'to be processed' pile...

Update - managed to speak with passport office, there is a delay in scanning paperwork (over 10 working days) but online status should be updated this week, we sent ours two weeks ago. Fingers crossed!

Update from me. Posted special delivery Friday 11th March. Still showing as on way to Corby but text at lunchtime to say it’s been received at the passport office.

I send mine via royal mail signed for on 14th March but passport office tracking still says waiting for passport. I'm panicking now as we travel in 6 weeks. I'm visiting family and my have to leave my son behind if his passport doesn't arrive 😢

Mine was sent on the 11th and updated 2 days ago so hopefully in the next day or 2 it will update.

The post office still say that my passport hasn't been delivered. However my pass port has been processed and I received it yesterday

I used to work in the same building as a accountants. The amount of signed for post sitting in the entrance to all businesses in the building was ridiculous. Even pre covid signed for to a business very likely meant nothing. I've couriered an old passport to HMPO this year which took 9 days after DHL had delivered to be marked as tracking on the HMPO system then additional documents which have a different address reference and it took 5 days after courier delivery for HMPO to update tracking. I got this number from a post on MN and have been able to get through with varying success in the last month: 03001231973.

Same has happened to me! Posted first class signed for delivery on 8th March, and they are saying they haven't received it (Bootle office). Super stressed.

Has anyone received any more news about their passports? I'm still waiting since 14th and heard nothing about them receing my sons old passport back

My son’s passport never showed up as delivered and I was mega stressed but eventually got a message saying his new passport was ready and they sent the old one back a week later. Took about 6 weeks all together

i'm waiting since 4th and it took nearly 2 weeks for them to formally say they'd received it but then it was approved and printed within about 3 days of that date. Still waiting for it to be actually sent back but that is the last part.

Thank you, its 16 days since I returned the passport. I just hope the confirm receipt of it soon.

In the same boat! Applied for renewal of my passport and my 2 DDs first adult passports. Youngest’s is still showing as not yet delivered by Royal Mail, and passport office haven’t got it. Hers went to Glasgow. Mine and DD1 passports received, and mine approved. What a bloody palava!

We don’t go on holiday until the end of July but hate being at the mercy of faceless, difficult to reach organisations!

@Bunnyfuller it took 2 weeks for my royal mail tracking to update but it finally says that it has been delivered and signed for at HMPO, not sure if this it the fault if royal mail or the passport office but im now expecting it to take a further 2 weeks for them to confirm receipt. We go away in 5 weeks, I'm really not hopeful 😔

Oh @Jenn83 that is concerning. Let’s hope it all speeds up for you. Are you able to speak to Passport Office and highlight the urgency? Did you put your travel dates down?

We had to wait for youngest to turn 16 before applying so she could get an adult passport, I’ve done it miles ahead because I’m a real worrier with this kind of stuff and just don’t trust them! Any of them!

was just thinking given how blindingly expensive it is it really is a shocking service

Update on my passport. Sent special delivery 11th March. Message to say my passport was being printed. It’s taken 3 weeks exactly from posting old passport to printing new one.

@Cazi77 which passport office was this? At any point did the acknowledge that they had received your documents? Thats my main concern that I returned the old passport in 15th but I've heard nothing x

Application online 22/03. Old passports sent 25/03. One to Peterborough, one to Liverpool and one to Glasgow.

Liverpool and Glasgow updated v fast, taken another week for Glasgow.

Really crossing fingers for you, but I think you need to start making some noise

I think you’ll get it back in time but unfortunately it will be cutting it fine.
Pleased it has at least turned up.
