Royal Mail has lost my passport sent for renewal, please help!

Hi, I sent my child’s expired passport by tracked signed for guaranteed next day delivery on Monday. It should have been delivered Tuesday. Royal Mail tracking service just says it is in transit. I am kind of assuming it is lost as no update since Tuesday.
I had made an application to renew my child’s passport online and was sending the expired old passport as directed.
Please can anyone advise what I need to do now ?

This is pretty normal from what i hve read from others and from my own experience.
They sign that they are received so the Royal Mail tracking updates but don't log documents onto system for up to two weeks. Once it's all on the system and in processing it's quite quick there on from my experience 👍👍 im sure you will have yours back for beginning July

Hiya both. RM Tracking doesn’t really seem to work for passport deliveries unfortunately. I think they all get delivered by Royal Mail into big bags to the passport offices- and no signed for service happens at that point (if at all). I paid for ‘signed for’ and got all my renewed passports back yesterday, but Royal mail tracking still doesn’t show as delivered. The whole thing took pretty much a month from sending to receiving the new ones back. It took 2 weeks from sending the passports to the passport tracking to update too. I would try not to worry - if you read the whole thread this seems to be the general experience. Good luck ladies! 😊

Did yours get there? A week on and Royal Mail are showing my passport in transit to Corby. Sons went to Liverpool and has been signed for.

Same issues as well, Mine went to Liverpool tracked and was signed for, passport now printed and out for delivery. My sons sent to Corby no tracking info from Royal Mail who did advise not to worry as it has been sent to Corby and to just wait.

Hi, I sent my old passport by tracked signed for guaranteed next day delivery on Saturday 30 of April .still not have received any things plus I rung Royal Mail customer they told me we have sent the old passport but we have wait to update the system

Please can anyone advise what I need to do now ?

My adult renewal went to Corby office signed for guaranteed next day on 28th April. Royal Mail tracker never updated. Had text from Passport office yesterday to say documents had been received.

Just an update from me:

After no further progress on my application, being unable to get through on the phone and with 10 days to go, I bit the bullet and went to Peterborough office yesterday. Spent full day and a half there and walked out an hour ago, Passport in hand! Shaking and crying with relief writing this.

If you've been waiting longer than 8 weeks and are due to travel within 14 days, highly advise going to a passport office in person. Ask to join the enquiry queue and, when you get in front of a person, plead your case for an upgrade appointment. The phone system is in meltdown and a lot of the progress teams are no longer talking phonecalls so there's little to be gained by hanging on the phone.

Also, the frontline staff at Peterborough have been exceptionally professional and have managed at lot of very stressed people. They are genuinely trying to help...

wow, good work @Titsflyingsouth I think this might be me in a few weeks time, or at least I hope it is, although I think I'd prefer to receive it the normal way than spend days in Peterborough. That sounds like quite an achievement. Can I ask, why did you choose Peterborough office? Was that just your closest? Also, what kind of documents did you bring with you, as I guess your old passport was stuck in system, so there's not much you can bring. Did they do it there and then while you waited?

I chose the office because that's where my application was 'hosted' on the system. (Although they shunt digital applications around between offices regularly to try and even space workload, 3 days previous or had been in Durham.)

As it happens Peterborough is not the nearest office to me but was within a 'do-able' distance.....

Hi there, just wondering if you had any updates? Same happened to us - sent birth certificate with RM first class signed & tracked on 3 May. Online tracker still says ‘in transit at Warrington’. I was wondering whether I should resend another original birth certificate or wait a few more days…

Passport office says it’s been sent. Royal Mail says it’s still in Transit.

Hi all I was wondering if anyone has any advice . I used the post office service to renew both my sons passports . My youngest son had to be verified by someone that was done the same day as renewals . My other son didn’t need verified but for some reason I’ve received my youngest sons new and old passport and according to the online checking service and on phone they haven’t received old passport yet but both was sent of same time by same post office . I called today and said they won’t print new until they receive old passport anything I can do to chase this up with post office . They didn’t give tracking for old passports just the PEX number for application. Thanks

If the passport office can't find it, contact Royal mail and if they can't find it they will probably advise you to report the old passport as being lost. Then get the lost passport reference number and call the advice line to have the application changed to a replacement and get the Lost passport reference added to the application.

Hi, I'm in a similar situation where I submitted my passport renewal application on March 28th, it's been accepted and got printed on April 9th.

On royal mail tracking it says they've attempted delivery on 10th April which they hadn't, it's now 25th April and it's been In Transit for over 2 weeks. I've called HM Passport Office and HM Passport Royal Mail and I have a holiday booked for 2nd May...
