My ds1 (8) is doing "Africa" as a topic at school this term (and loving it).

His teacher gave him the address of this website which is a webcam at a waterhole in Botswana. He loves watching it and seeing the animals.

PS Don't check just now though as the cameras are offline and not working for some reason! Check later in the day - after school is a good time.

bad pics here too

Zephyrcat · 03/10/2005 10:14

Whats that bird?? Is it an eagle?

Janh · 03/10/2005 10:14

That's not a vulture, is it?

suedonim · 03/10/2005 10:22

Not my pc, then - thanks.

It look as though all the jumbos have come back to look after the poorly one, doesn't it. I think that's an eagle, Jan. There were two earlier, eating something on the ground.

What with this and the eclipse, I'm doing s*d all today and I've loads to do as having people here tonight!

Zephyrcat · 03/10/2005 10:31

Does anyone know how to 'capture' a pic and print it? I've got the eagle on pause for dd to show daddy (his fav bird) but i cant seem to save or print it!!

Janh · 03/10/2005 10:32

SherlockLGJ · 03/10/2005 10:32

Firewall in work will not let me in.

Janh · 03/10/2005 10:43

The ele is all but submerged today. It must be trying to keep cool?

katylou25 · 03/10/2005 10:48

Janh · 03/10/2005 10:50

Janh · 03/10/2005 10:50

Janh · 03/10/2005 10:51

Maybe it's just an adolescent strop - jealous of the baby

Hi Luana ...... we are, for obvious reasons, keeping the camera off the sick ele as much as possible. You are correct in that we try not to interfere in the natural scheme of things and allow sick and injured animals to die naturally, unless we believe that the injury was caused by man, in which case we will interfere, iether by immobilising the animal and administering medication or by euthanasing it to stop its suffering. Ilnesses are more difficult to deal with. Firstly they are seldom caused by man (so we don't interfere) and secondly although the ele in the pond, for example, looks like he is in a lot of discomfort and will not survive, we cannot be sure of this and cannot, therefore, take the decision to shoot him. I.e. while there is life there is hope. It is also difficult to determine what is ailing him and even more difficult to treat, unless we take him into captivity - which we obviously don't want to do.

RTKMonherBroomstick · 03/10/2005 10:55

Janh · 03/10/2005 10:56

Yes - see what I posted at 10.50!

It was much darker because of the water - has moved away now though.

Janh · 03/10/2005 10:56

Mum's going after him again.

RTKMonherBroomstick · 03/10/2005 10:56

Janh · 03/10/2005 10:57

She's saying now just pull yourself together and come home!

Zephyrcat · 03/10/2005 10:57

He definately did get up and out of the pond when the other two came over to him. Not sure where he went though, I'm still trying to figure out a way to print it!!

Janh · 03/10/2005 10:57

He's very thin.
