CeeTee · 21/09/2005 17:33

What part of the deep south did you go to, Moondog? Did you have gumbo?

Rhubarb · 21/09/2005 20:46

Which lovely lovely single man GGG??? You know, dh doesn't mind me having a few male friends! Is he French? Perhaps he could give me lessons? Or I could give him lessons? Actually I'm all in favour of open relationships, I just need to convince dh of that!

moondog · 21/09/2005 21:08

CeeTee,have spent six or seven summers working on a children's camp in North Carolina and subsequently travelling and staying with friends in NC,SC,Georgia,Loisiana,Alabama,Arkansas,Mississippi...

Am really into the food, the buildings, the music (did my Clarksdale and Memphis pilgrimage!)the whole way of life.

One of my favourite cookbooks is called 'Cajun Foodways' which,as the blurb goes is a 'study of the relationship between Cajun food and modern Cajun identity'.

Speak French, which adds to my interest.

Are you American? Did you escape the wrath of Katrina?

moondog · 21/09/2005 21:09

Oh and had plenty of gumbo and crawfish!

bobbybob · 22/09/2005 03:37

I've already been done!

MrsEvs · 22/09/2005 03:49

Mandyk · 22/09/2005 08:14

Hi. Since joining Mumsnet I've lived in Bangalore, South India and now we're in Melbourne for 2 years at least. Any others in Melbourne? It's a little lonely here at the moment!

Dimples · 22/09/2005 08:21

I've been living in Sarajevo for 4 years and a total of 6 in Bosnia. Waiting to have third child - don't know where the time goes!

Jellyfish · 22/09/2005 08:40

Brit living in Belgium (there are lots of us and many seem to be in the process of reproducing at a fairly steady rate!).

jambot · 22/09/2005 08:48

I'm in Cape Town, South Africa.

chicca · 22/09/2005 09:13

I too am in Spain. Arcos de la Frontera near Jerez in Andalucia (west).

We have our own dialect here too - it's like cockney really. DS is going to grow immitating Homer Simpson every time he says 2 - doh!

WHIGERS · 22/09/2005 09:25

HI I'm in the Charente in France. Been here for 2.5 years. Very happy. In fact, we are just about to try and organise a home birth here. Not an easy task in a hospital loving culture. Have found a midwife who will, seeing her tomorrw! Apparently there are only 15 practacing home birthing midwifes in the whole country!

danishmummy · 22/09/2005 10:03

Hi. Living in Denmark and actually am Danish. After 5 years in Scotland I am back home -- unfortunately because of a divorce from my scottish husband...

Very sad story, as he is a lovely, kind man but we just cant live together, and I couldnt settle in Scotland. Very sad mostly because there are children involved: DD who is 2 years 9 months, and next baby due end of October... terrified of being a single mum of 2 below 3 years, but 15 mins away from my parents and in a good network. I will manage. I have to. Still convinced, its the right descision.

Excited to give birth in a Danish hospital. They are very big on accupuncture here -- looking forward to trying that!

Tickle · 22/09/2005 10:40

Hi danishmummy - so sorry to hear sad news about your marriage Where are you? I am from England but moved to Samsø with my danish husband, dd1 & ds1 18 mths ago, just before dd2 was born in the local cottage hospital. Expecting no 4 at Christmas..!

sansouci · 22/09/2005 10:44

Moondog, you have a fascinating life. I envy and admire you!

sansouci · 22/09/2005 10:49

Danishmummy, I'm sorry that your marriage can't work. It's a real tragedy, especially for your children. I hope that you and your ex will be able to remain friends and share the children. As a child of divorced parents, I hate to think of any child being torn between their mother and father. But only 2 people really know what goes on in a marriage. Good luck and my sympathy to you.
