Me and nerdgirl and skerriesmum and Mhamai live in Ireland.
Pinotgrigia, an optometrist examines eyes and can prescribe spectacles and contact lenses but can also be known as an ophtalmic optician, in Ireland and the UK. We are trying to get everyone to call us optometrists but are having difficulty with this as it is a word bigger than chocolate. In the US there is no confusion because Americans like words bigger than chocolate!
A dispensing optician can dispense spectacles and (sometimes) contact lenses.
Are you sorry you asked?
