I live in sunny sunny Perth Western Australia

I am a Pom but feel thoroughly Australian now as we bought our first Barbie today and fired up the little ripper all afternoon

Beauty, Mate.

Only just found this thread, I live in Kazakhstan, Central Asia, and I'm very curious about Lapochka. Where do you live?

We live near Bordeaux, in a town called Langoiran to be exact, South East of the city. It's very rural which I prefer for the kids, but all the work is in the city!
I found a job teaching English in a private school, they are quite desperate for native English speakers to teach over here, and I didn't have any qualifications or relevant experience either! But I only have 5 hours in one school in Bordeaux, and 3 hours in a primary school a bit closer. Not much!

Dh found it hardest to find work, he was a JCB driver in the UK, but his qualifications mean nothing over here. After a year of looking he finally found work for an agency. It's good but it's only temporary which means it can finish at any time.

They are very work-orientated, mothers tend to leave their children with childminders. Childcare is very cheap. There are also local crechés you can sign up for that are even cheaper, but you have to book in advance. I find it hard to leave ds for the hours whilst I work, I never did it with dd, but here it is the norm and indeed the only way he can mix with other children as there are no toddler groups!

CAT me if you need any further info. Where were you thinking of living and what job do you hope to do?

Rhubarbm out of nosiness... where in France are you, and what work did you eventually find?

So true, Rhubard. My boys have been at French school now for 3 years and speak beautiful french now, but the first few months were the hardest.....for me and them. France is a wonderful country and there are lots of positives, but my, my there are loads of negatives too!!!!!

Schools are better in France. But my advice would be to get tough, because starting life here is going to be different and difficult. We had huge problems with finding work, getting onto the system, finding somewhere to live, and dd starting school with no friends and not a word of French. It was all worth it in the end, but be prepared for heartache and pressure until things pan out.

Kids are fast learners, but even so dd has been here for a year now, going to the local school, but her French is still only basic. The best thing we did for her was to befriend neighbours whose son was going to the same school, we would encourage her to play with him, we'd invite him to our house, and this made a huge difference both with her confidence and her language skills.

Hope it works out for you!

Hej Albert. Thanks for wishing me well. That all sounds fantastic! Am a bit scared as D-day gets closer, because birth of DD was not straightforward. But thinking positively and looking forward to trying accupuncture.

Hej Danishmummy, I was in Denmark for 7 years and had DS there, in Hellerup/Copenhagen. I had acupressure, acupuncture and aromotherapy whilst in labour, all given by the wonderful hospital staff - it is a great country to give birth in. Good luck.

sansouci -- I understand now, what you meant. I am so sorry, you had to go through that.

You made me laugh through tears, though! What a cute, funny misunderstanding of words. Of course no fun for you at the time... lets hope ex-hub and I can do better for our children.

Goodnight -- off to bed with my heartburn!!
