Omg that's amazing and bonkers about the excessive woad growing! Can you imagine how pissed off you'd be if you had just made plans for a massive woad farm and then that proclamation arrived?

UptoapointLordCopper · 04/03/2015 19:43

I went to an exhibition at the National Gallery about colours so know all about ultramarine and shit. Grin The cheapskates who use cheaper substitutes of ultramarine now have their paintings all faded. That's why some of these pictures have odd colour skies ...

And DC and I went to a workshop there too - almost all the children know about lapis lazuli, I suspect from minecraft rather than from the national curriculum.

When they synthesize purple (or was it mauve) Queen Victoria was so taken with it she dressed her entire family in purple.

That must have been a sight.

BOFster · 04/03/2015 20:17

I think it was purple (IIRC, it was discovered while experimenting with iodine to create synthetic quinine), but coining "mauve" sort of branded it.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 04/03/2015 20:55

Tracy Chevalier is right, BoF is a brilliant editor. She fixed something crucial in my book but I won't say what as you would laugh.
Anyway, Wolf Hall.

BOFster · 04/03/2015 20:59

I am getting justifiably grumpy as 9pm approaches in my Wolf Hall-less life. I may have to go to bed early Angry...

UptoapointLordCopper · 04/03/2015 21:32

I'm watching Castle instead. Will he or won't he?

Trills · 04/03/2015 22:41

Mmm, quinine.

Tiredemma · 05/03/2015 17:38

I was really pissed oof at 9pm last night. Especially when they only TV offerings seemed to be crap./

AKnickerfulOfMenace · 05/03/2015 21:14

Watching the making of now.

diddl · 06/03/2015 08:26

I haven't started Wolf Hall yet & I already have the next one.

DandyHighwayman · 06/03/2015 08:40

Honestly this thread is so so interesting, thank you all.

Folk who grumble aboot Mn gorn to the dogs blah blah need to give their heids a wobble!

I watched the finale again this week and was struck anew by the speed of Anne's downfall.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 06/03/2015 09:05

Uptoapoint, you could read the Amazon preview of the next one while you wait.

I bought my Kindle specifically for reading Wolf Hall. Someone had given me the hardback which was totally flipping impossible for me to hold (with my tiny delicate fingers) but then it turned out you could buy both for Kindle at a knock-down rate.

UptoapointLordCopper · 06/03/2015 09:23

If I can't get a copy from the library I'll buy a paperback, even though there is no space on the book shelves. May have to get rid of some parenting books. Grin Our priorities are changing!

AKnickerfulOfMenace · 06/03/2015 09:47

Yy dandy. She miscarried at around 15 weeks - she was executed before what would have been her EDD.

Rewatching after reading a bit more background, I do think the second pregnancy wasn't well covered - it wasn't clear to me that she was 6-7 months along with that one as one minute ".the queen had missed her courses" and the next there was blood on the floor. Could've done with a quick establishing scene of the season changing and a pregnant Anne.

If you have the Kindle edition, you can get the audiobook from Audible for £3.49 instead of £23.99. Over 24 hours-worth, though sadly not read by MR!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 06/03/2015 10:19

Oh, can you IMAGINE if it was read by MR? Grin

GlaceCherries · 06/03/2015 11:23

Countess my knees are trembling at the very thought of that....

UptoapointLordCopper · 06/03/2015 11:52

So does TC's family hate him? Gregory seems to imply that. I thought they like him.

(Sorry, I'm reading the book and everyone must therefore be terribly interested in where I got to and what I thought about it. Blush)

AKnickerfulOfMenace · 06/03/2015 11:55

And do you know who Gregory Cromwell ended up marrying, LordC?

OP posts:
UptoapointLordCopper · 06/03/2015 12:03

Not yet ...

UptoapointLordCopper · 06/03/2015 12:03

SHould I google?

AKnickerfulOfMenace · 06/03/2015 14:04

I don't know if it's a "spoiler" or not! I assume it's well post the events of the books...

Becles · 06/03/2015 16:11

Just to lower the tone or spoil the ambiance, Mark Rylance is to play the role of the big friendly giant (The BFG) in the upcoming Steven Spielberg film. I'm rather looking forward to that.Grin

RustyBear · 06/03/2015 16:14

It will presumably be in the last book - if it ever gets written!
