For those whose DC have submitted their UCAS application without having yet taken the A-level (or equivalent) exams…

How are your DC getting on with hearing back from the universities?

@Llangewydd57 well done to DC on getting the offer. A tough one to turn down though as it's so prestigious.

It is, but DC is very sporty and thought Warwick’s campus facilities were great, swimming pool, gym, climbing walls, tennis and the list goes on. Still waiting on LSE-accommodation is in better locations. Don’t think they’ll accept UCL.

AuntyBulgaria · 05/03/2026 19:21

@Llangewydd57 my son was dazzled by Warwick's sporting facilities so this is his top choice as well. I even got sent a photo of the climbing wall sent to me during the open day!

Same here. He has a few friends there at the moment as he is on a gap year and currently out of the country.
For him it’s perfect and having not got Oxford I thinks it’s the best option. He loves the idea of Imperial but in reality he says he doesn’t think he’d enjoy his four years as much as Warwick.

Well done to your son...still waiting here.
Do the 1st year students have to stay in Acton theñ? Can they not stay in the halls in Kensington?

Most of the Kensington accommodation is for overseas students but they may get lucky and get a room. My DCs has two friends there, both out in Acton and finding year 2 accommodation will be better if they are able to secure private accommodation. So my DC may well reject and go for Warwick.

Llangewydd57 · 05/03/2026 20:33

Meant to add, I have told him that it needs to be where he is going to be happy for the next four years-it’s a long time.

bettyjane · 06/03/2026 06:33

Well done to your DC on the Imperial offer Llangewydd57, it’s great they can now start making some decisions x

Llangewydd57 · 06/03/2026 20:11

@Satsuma55
Not sure where the info about Imperial’s accommodation has gone. I’ll try again.

Someone, somewhere posted a chart which showed home vs International students at each of Imperial accommodations. Was it in here? I’ll see if I can find it!

bettyjane · 07/03/2026 07:24

Information from Imperial showing number of home vs International students at each of the accommodation, up to 23/24.

South Ken halls being Beit, Eastside, Southside
North Acton are Kemp Porter and Woodward.
Wilson House is Paddington.

Not sure if the image is working .. it’s from this link under “proportion of home and overseas students in Imperial halls”

@bettyjane , thanks for posting that. My DC doesn't even have an offer yet, if he doesn't get in he'll go to Warwick. I'm a bit selfish really, because when I visit my kids at uni I would prefer to visit Kensington over Warwick.

bettyjane · 07/03/2026 08:34

No offer here yet either, I just remember seeing this chart previously :)

Llangewydd57 · 07/03/2026 10:12

Thanks for this. I spoke to their accommodation dept on Friday and they confirmed that just over half of students are in Acton and at the moment they are building more accommodation out there. His mates there at the moment hate the commute and although they have found accommodation for year 2 already it still miles out because they can’t afford anything any closer.
My DC is delighted with his offer but not sure they want to take the risk of such a long commute 🙄. Wish we’d looked into this before applying. UCL have much more accommodation close to the uni buildings as does LSE.

Fabfabfab · 08/03/2026 09:11

Congratulations to those with recent offers! We went to the OHD at Warwick yesterday but DC wasn't that impressed. Thought it was too modern and didn't like the course content as much as his other options. I can see his point and why he prefers Durham/Bristol, but thought the main Faculty of Arts building was amazing, as well as the sport facilities, and the students seemed very friendly and happy. They did admit that last year some students were placed outside of campus which really wouldn't be great as it's very much a campus University. Next weekend we have the OHD at Durham and it will be interesting to see if he likes it as much as he thinks he will.@Ventress have you been to Durham yet or is it next weekend?

Long commutes are a real risk at London universities and since Imperial left the University of London there is no longer the option for Imperial students to live in the super central Intercollegiate Halls which are fabulous for social life.

TeenWhisperer · 08/03/2026 09:37

Ds is in his last year at Imperial and has had great accommodation. He was in Wilson at Paddington in Year one. He used to just cycle through Hyde Park to campus (about 15 mins total commute and very eco). It was really handy. For the last two years he’s been sharing a flat with friends in the Hammersmith area, which is still pretty convenient. It’s London, so there will always be some travel but he loves the opportunities around. He didn’t want to apply for Beit (worried about noise) or the central halls as he wanted to have some time away from campus and they are a bit more expensive too.

Llangewydd57 · 08/03/2026 09:44

Thank you for this information @TeenWhisperer. My DC is still unsure. They are off to offer holder days soon and I think this will help them to make up their mind.

lanadelgrey · 09/03/2026 18:54

Why is this process so drawn out?
DS has now got Glasgow, his likely insurance but it would be nice to hear from LSE and King's

Llangewydd57 · 09/03/2026 19:21

LSE is slow don’t know much about the other. Still waiting here too, although lots of their friends have heard back today with offers.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 09/03/2026 22:24

Offers from LSE @Llangewydd57?

That’s the last one that DS is waiting for too. He knew about the other 4 months ago!

What’s his preferred at the moment?
I think LSE is a long shot for my DC.

mumonthehill · 10/03/2026 06:32

Just a reminder to check when dc going to offer holder days if they live in contextual areas and they can then sometimes get their travel covered. We discovered yesterday that we are in one for Reading Uni.
