ours at 2.15 so they must be staggered

MyGreyBiscuit · 21/01/2026 10:14

Ours is this morning!! Eek. Hope it goes well for all of us, and those doing interviews this week!

France8857 · 21/01/2026 10:27

we have 2 interviews today -sheffield and exeter! a bit of a cock up as she mistakingly booked them on the same day, luckily at different times.
still do news from bristol or nottingham. To get just one offer would take the pressure off.
luckily mocks are done, with mixed results. i think too much time spent working on interviews, leavig very little for mocks.
such a brutal year for them all.
best of luck to them.

rockstuckhardplace · 21/01/2026 10:31

@France8857presumably not in-person then?

France8857 · 21/01/2026 10:48

sheffield is in person, she is there now. exeter, thankfully is online and we have hired a weworks that she can do it in. it starts at 4.

A long and stressful day but at least all finished then

Good luck to all interviewing today and this week! @France8857 that's quite the effort, 2 interviews in one day. Best of luck!

Just to say, Exeter sent an 'on hold' email to many people today, including those interviewed last week! They've also sent quite a few offers this week..

DD had her Exeter interview yesterday and we haven't received anything. I'm so nervous for her now, whichever decision it is I hope she gets it after Friday (when she has her 2nd interview - Sheffield).

Oh, and we still have not heard from Southampton and UCL! So fed up with waiting for interview invites!

Fairyfeet40 · 21/01/2026 16:16

Southampton done this morning. DD said it was fair questions and group task and the other candidates were ‘lovely’. They said March for offers which feels ages away. Just Liverpool left to do now. It’s a marathon this process!

Itsallstressstressstress · 21/01/2026 16:19

Good news, DS has received a conditional offer from St Andrews! So pleased for him as it was his first choice, and I’m relieved too. This process is hard and I hope all those waiting for interviews get these soon and offers follow.
Might have to spoil myself with a glass of wine tonight.

Somehow we got the impression it was a full selection day at the open day 😵‍💫 So good to know that’s not the case!
Hope everyone got on ok.
@inae Think it might be Friday for next round of Southampton invites? Just guessing! Sick of waiting too, it’s such a distraction for our YP.

Amazing, well done to him!

Thank you, it does make it a little easier, just now need him to get the grades.

inae · 21/01/2026 16:52

@Itsallstressstressstress Congrats to your YP, that's fabulous! 🍷well deserved for you too! :)

@PurryGrowls Oh, you're waiting too? We do hope to get the next batch, as that would mean no clash with mock dates.

Great news. Love St Andrews. I grew up not far from there

It is lovely and I feel it’s a great choice for him, fingers crossed he gets the grades.
Now just looking at the accommodation options as too far for him to go there and live at home. He said even if it was just down the road he would be wanting to go to halls rather than be at home! 🤣

no, it’s about 1.5 hours although DS finished early! Think the format is an interview and then the group task.

We were this morning too! DS wouldn’t let me near the building so I ended up in the student’s union… I’m feeling FOMO now knowing parents were there! He’s not said anything about the questions except he thought they were ok and he was happy.

Of course, the offer is based on him getting BBB in his advanced highers.

Wow that’s great! I know nothing about how that equates to A levels but hopefully it’s all achievable! There’s so much pressure on them from now till June!

Itsallstressstressstress · 21/01/2026 19:07

Yes, he’s managed to get A’s in his Highers and predicted A’s for the Advanced Highers but just allows for a small margin of error if things don’t quite as well as hoped.
I wasn’t sure how it compared either but ChatGPT said the following (obviously may not be 100% accurate)!

Scottish Advanced Highers at
BBB generally compare to roughly ABB to AAB at A-Level in terms of UCAS tariff points and university entry requirements, though they are often considered more academically rigorous or closer to first-year university level.
Here is a detailed breakdown based on UCAS points and university admissions:

  1. UCAS Tariff Points Comparison
Advanced Highers are valued higher per grade than A-Levels because they are generally studied for one year after Highers, focusing on depth.
  • Advanced Higher BBB = 144 UCAS Points (A=56, B=48, B=40).
  • A-Level AAB = 136 UCAS Points (A=48, A=48, B=40).
  • A-Level ABB = 128 UCAS Points (A=48, B=40, B=40).
Therefore, BBB in Advanced Highers is actually higher in UCAS points than AAB/ABB at A-Level.
  1. University Admissions Equivalence
While the points are higher, universities often equate them differently in their entry requirements:
  • Medicine/Competitive Courses: Universities often ask for one grade lower in Advanced Highers compared to A-Levels. For example, if the requirement is AAA at A-Level, the Advanced Higher requirement might be BBB.

Congratulations to your DS and his support team @Itsallstressstressstress - loving see some early offers coming in and the palpable relief which follows.

It feels like it's peak interview time at the moment. I'll be pleased when this part of the journey is over as so much second guessing for our YP of their answers and also themselves, the confidence swings and hopeful waiting. It really is quite the rollercoaster.

DD has Exeter interview last week and comparatively (after Brighton self proclaimed disaster) felt it went quite well. She was put on hold today so time will tell. Last interview next Thursday for Glasgow and then that's a wrap for us.

Good luck to all those still waiting for interview invites and interviews. Nearly there.

@Peanuts79 thank you. I think it’s the opaqueness of the whole process that makes it harder for them (and us). Some higher emphasis on UCAT, some on grades or PS, different timelines for comms and interviews and then the different approaches to interviews, MMI, group and individual interviews. Finally, the different timelines to communicate outcomes.
fingers crossed she hears soon and good luck for Glasgow. My son found Glasgow interview ok, 2 interviewers and they sort of took half of the interview each.

bluefineliner · 22/01/2026 06:48

Congratulations to your DS on the St A offer @Itsallstressstressstress what a relief that must be for you both.

@MyGreyBiscuit glad Southampton went well for your DS, It always makes me smile when others YP keep a nice brief reply as to how it was. I am always treated to hours of analysing every part of the process when DD has an interview (or any situation in life actually! 😂) it makes me more stressed too when she offloads, but she's always been the same and luckily I am used to it.

Hope you hear from Southampton soon @inae and @PurryGrowls .

@Fairyfeet40 we too have Liverpool still to do (and Lancaster), I can't wait for them all to be done. It honestly feels like time is standing still atm waiting for January to be out of the way!

everydirection · 22/01/2026 08:26

lovely to hear of offers coming in. Southampton interview very different experience to Imperial. Much more relaxed and preferred the questions. One more to go with Bristol next week
