Hi, thought I would start a thread. My Son is studying Economics. It’s exciting but nerve wrecking. He’s very independent luckily, but going to really miss him. We find out about his accommodation on the 27th

Heated drying rack! What a brilliant idea. We use a drier at home so only have an old one.

DS bought a smallish one to take with him but has said some of his sporty stuff is taking too long to dry so might suggest this.

Coldilocks · 04/10/2025 11:20

The clothes will dry faster with a cover - or persuade them to wash their bedding at the same time so that they can drop the sheet over the drier to keep the heat in. And they do produce a lot of condensation. DS is on the 2nd floor so he can leave the window open all the time but DD was on the ground floor so kept her window shut and I think her windows were dripping with condensation.

Hope everybody has settled in by now. May I please ask if most students have registered with the uni GP? My son hasn’t and we are still wondering if he should… is it just a case of filling in the registration form?

labradorservant · 07/11/2025 08:13

My son registered. Not been yet but easier to manage a temporary Gp here rather than there.

Nearlyhealthy · 07/11/2025 13:18

Mine claims they have 🤷‍♀️

HappynLife · 13/11/2025 20:16

Hello!!
I hope everyone is well and happy? Christmas is around the corner! Can’t believe it.

I’ve read on other threads that some first year students at other unis have already started searching for second year accommodation!

I’m not sure what DS is doing, I’m planning on asking but don’t want to stress him if there’s no need. What are your DC doing about next year’s accommodation? Is it too early to start thinking about it?

Snowstorm18 · 14/11/2025 06:30

I think they start searching for 2nd year accommodation early in Bath…

EmeraldJeanie · 14/11/2025 06:52

My ds started early. In 2nd year at Bath in student house. Think had something in process by Christmas 🎄

Coldilocks · 14/11/2025 07:38

Son and his friends but that’s because I’m nagging him.

Coldilocks · 14/11/2025 07:39

They’re looking already. Don’t know what happened there.

labradorservant · 14/11/2025 10:13

There is a student fair housing thing on at the SU on 27th November. Told ds to go. He said need to be on it earlier. He’s aware so leaving him to it for now.

Thanks for the tip!

DS says houses are released every Wednesday. That sounds weird to me. Anyone else heard that?

No. But DS put in a viewing request over the weekend and he was phoned back by the agent on Wednesday so maybe there’s something in it.

captureitrememberit · 14/11/2025 17:32

In case it helps anyone, my DD is now in second year at Bath in a student house with 3 others. Around this time last year was when they started looking, and officially sorted their house the week they broke up for Christmas. They viewed around 5 different ones in that time. She has said that she knows of friends who did theirs later than that though!

Thank you! That is helpful to know.

Nearlyhealthy · 16/11/2025 09:08

What about the students who have placements for half the year in the second year? Does anybody have any tips on how they manage housing pls?

HappynLife · 13/12/2025 20:57

I thought I’d revive this thread to see how everyone is doing?

DS has come back from Bath this weekend ☺️first time since September!!!! (We did go to visit him a couple of times).

He’s found a place to live for year 2 with 3 other people (relief!!) but hasn’t quite found a steady friendship group I his course, he tends to be the quiet type! But he seems happy so I’m pleased 😀.

How are your DC doing?

Nearlyhealthy · 13/12/2025 21:42

Ok I think, I’m concerned about DC finding housing for next year though.
Glad to hear yours is doing well!

thereare4lights · 14/12/2025 08:26

New username but I've posted on this thread before. Mine's thoroughly enjoyed term 1. Been home once as we're only an hour away and we've been in Bath a couple of times anyway so have seen her as well. House hunting has been hard work, but they finally got accepted for a house on Friday, so can relax for Christmas!

Coldilocks · 14/12/2025 08:42

House hunting has had its dramas but deposit finally paid on Thursday. The house is 20 mins on the bus and another 20 mins walk after that. DS wants to cycle in but having seen the narrow busy roads and that stepper than step hill, I’m not convinced this is a good idea.

Coldilocks · 14/12/2025 08:43

Or indeed steeper than steep.

Thatsanotherfinemess1 · 14/12/2025 08:55

Have you joined the parents of bath uni students Facebook page? There's also one for parents of students at Thornbank Gardens too if your student gets city accommodation (very reassuring as this is the block no-one applies for...).It's a great source of info from other parents, great if there's an emergency (international parents with very poorly student who they needed to contact, parents worried about student mental health etc) and very supportive with everything from recommendations for cheap hotels, nice restaurants, next year's accommodation, how to register with a dentist...

labradorservant · 14/12/2025 09:11

DS home now. Found house. Finally. Does seem a bit of a hike back to uni. Seriously thinking about whether DD should apply too as it seems a hassle! Anyway he’s had a great term made some good friends (one staying with us now before flying home, seems very Harry Potter). And I think they’ve actually had to work. Exams after Xmas.

ShanghaiDiva · 14/12/2025 10:09

meeting dd in Bath today and bringing her and boyfriend home tomorrow. She is in her second year but still on campus due to a chronic health condition. She has a placement in Cambridge for year three so also on the search for accommodation.
