Hi, thought I would start a thread. My Son is studying Economics. It’s exciting but nerve wrecking. He’s very independent luckily, but going to really miss him. We find out about his accommodation on the 27th

I’m so glad I found this thread. DS is going in September, doing Maths. Just waiting, like everyone else, for the accommodation email on Wednesday. DS doesn’t know anyone else who is going though.

Hi, sorry only just saw has. He needed two A’s and a B, one of the As had to be in Maths. He did Maths, Economics, Geography and an EPQ. Best of luck to your Son

Accommodation offer came through, DD got her first choice so she’s very happy. Hope you all get good news too!

Coldilocks · 27/08/2025 08:52

DS got his 7th choice! But having looked at it I think it could be great fun for him.

HappynLife · 27/08/2025 13:56

Have any of your DC who put Bath as their insurance receive any new re accommodation today?

DS is insisting there is no point calling or checking because they will email him at some point. I wish I could check in his behalf! He is so laid back! 😫

NigellaAwesome · 27/08/2025 17:04

DS got his accommodation offer through. It wasn’t even on his 7 choices and I think he is quite disappointed. His 2 must haves were a small double bed and an en suite. He got neither. It does
make me wonder why we bothered researching and putting choices down.

@NigellaAwesome if your DS didn’t get any of his choices, I really don’t know what will happen to my DS who had Bath as his insurance.

is it worth starting to look around at private accommodation or shall I wait? (Clutching for positive accommodation stories!!)

Flowersandthorns · 27/08/2025 18:48

My son got his first choice - he has gone for a shared bathroom in the city so maybe a more unpopular choice?

fannieadams · 27/08/2025 21:09

My son got Brendon Court- apparently a social dorm. No ensuite but comes with food/drinks credits. All good.

John Wood Court by any chance? Dd was there last year. Definitely far from her first choice but it was absolutely fine. Small flats -4 or 5 people so it wasn’t overwhelming. She loved it.

jennygeddes · 27/08/2025 22:07

My DD got what we think might have been her first choice, but can't remember the order she put things in. She did have medical reasons for choices though.

pistachioicecream · 27/08/2025 22:20

My DD didn’t get any of her 7 choices either and has ended up with one of the options she really didn’t want. There were tears this morning. Agree @NigellaAwesome made us wonder why on earth we’d spent so long choosing options. Would have been better if they’d just said it was random at the outset. It’s not even as if she’d chosen all ensuite or all on campus. She’d selected a mix of options but didn’t get any of them.

It will be fine and she’ll make the best of it, just a bit of disappointment today.

Wronginformation · 28/08/2025 06:17

DD is going into 2nd year. Campus accommodation are all close together. So from location point of view doesn't matter which one you get.
She got her first choice last year, as it wasn't a very competitive choice with no ensuite. Advantage of this is that you don't have to clean it yourself...(And it's cheaper).
Last year she wouldn't have liked to get a city one but in all fairness, she can't wait to move into her accommodation this year which is city based.

catsareace · 28/08/2025 07:05

Honestly they will be fine. DD was in a corridor of about 30, tiny room, shared bathroom but she survived, in fact she made life long friends! Once they they quickly get over the 'need' for an ensuite and a double bed.

EmeraldJeanie · 28/08/2025 07:25

My ds got Eastwood for his first year and loved it. Out in city this year with flat mates. 12 in Eastwood flat and they are moving into 2 houses in 2nd year near each other. City accommodation is expensive and they went through Bath university based agency to find accommodation.

EmeraldJeanie · 28/08/2025 07:26

In Eastwood they seemed to do a lot of socialising in the kitchen area...

HappynLife · 28/08/2025 13:59

DS just received his accommodation allocation! So relieved! 😊

jennygeddes · 28/08/2025 17:26

@HappynLife that's good, hope he's happy with it.

Coldilocks · 30/08/2025 21:51

Oh that’s good @HappynLife is it on campus?

All you parents sound lovely. I wish there was a way we could introduce our DCs together in real life!

Hi @Coldilocks , it’s not in campus which I think is fair enough as Bath was his insurance.
He’s happy with it though and I know he’ll make the most of it. He’s that sort of person.

Octopus45 · 31/08/2025 17:25

My Son got Westwood Quarry. Have done quite a lot of the shopping

This happened to my daughter last year, she was in Thornbank Gardens which was never on her list. BUT she settled well, like the location and met her one of her Y2 housemates. It will be fine, just annoying to start with.

PottersClay · 18/09/2025 06:50

How is everyone doing? We’ll be setting off today, staying in a hotel tonight for move in slot on Friday morning.
Feels a little surreal after a year of planning and hoping. I just hope we have enough room in the car!

InfiniteTeas · 18/09/2025 07:30

This popped up on active threads. I don't have a child starting at Bath but I do live here. One bit of advice to those students living in the Oldfield Park area - they need to get to the bus stop far earlier than they think they should, particularly early in the term. I drive past three uni bus stops on the school run and the queue is regularly all the way down the road, round the corner and almost to the next stop. And don't bother waiting at the stop outside Hayesfield Girls' School - the bus is always full by the time it gets there because everyone walks round the corner to the stop on Lower Bristol Road. If they have to join the standard morning queue, they are probably looking at at least two buses before they can get on. I regularly see stressed looking students in the early weeks of term, who clearly have no chance of getting to morning lectures on time. It doesn't look quite as bad at the city centre stops which are only a ten minute walk further on, so it's probably worth aiming for those.

We're off crack of dawn tomorrow (three hour drive) for our 9-11am slot. The landing is full of bedding, clothes and trainers. DS is very excited. I'm excited for him but desperately hoping I won't cry.
