Will try to add old threads, maybe good for us to give an update of where our DCs are at

Oh @Lurea, sorry to hear that. It's one of the (many) hard things about medicine that on the known Oxford/Cambridge decision days you don't have any other offers yet. (My niece was rejected by Cambridge last year and was quickly able to console herself with what a great time she'd have in Manchester - which is exactly how it's turned out.)

Hope she, and everyone else on here, gets some good news very soon.

Rejection from Cambridge for my DD. She is very deflated. I hope she will get an offer soon to boost her spirit

Same here, DS wasn’t expecting an offer but was obviously hopeful and is now sad. No offers yet but hopefully he’ll hear from Leeds this week, an offer would boost him no end.
Whats unis are you waiting on?

Lurea · 30/01/2025 10:58

she has interviewed at Manchester, Newcastle and UEA

Thanks for the nice words. Is your niece studying medicine?

maybemedmum · 30/01/2025 11:12

@Lurea No! Luckily I think DD is the only prospective medic in the family.

Not sure what your dd's UCAT was but when my dd was applying with a top decile UCAT we calculated based on some previous FOI requests that students with a top decile UCAT had an over 90% chance of an offer at UEA even if the interview went badly. Dd was given an offer but decided to go elsewhere. People we know there however have been really happy.

CopingHagen · 30/01/2025 12:37

Sorry for the Cambridge bad news - we went through this with older DC (not medicine) who also wasn't holding any other offers at time. It's a tough, tough process and so hard to keep the faith.

DC has heard via friend that Nottingham have confirmed to interviewees that they'll confirm all offers by the end of June - this seems unbelievably late?! Confused

Lurea · 30/01/2025 12:42

yes UEA seems a safe choice. She got 2890 UCAT

WeCantGoOverIt · 30/01/2025 14:00

In other words by the UCAS deadline. They can’t be any later without it being in clearing. Normally they have to give offers for applicants received before 29th January by 14th May with only Extra after that (and before clearing).

Keepkondoing · 30/01/2025 14:40

Question for the more experienced - what happens to all the places not taken up, for example if someone gets 4 offers, they can only accept one. Do the places then get offered out again?

Africa2go · 30/01/2025 15:02

@Keepkondoing normally, unis have an algorithm that predicts the likely uptake of offers - so they know how many offers they can make to fill their places, knowing that a % of their offers will be turned down. So there isn't another round of offers, but some unis will contact students who haven't been offered originally to ask if they want to go on a "wait list" and then will offer from the waitlist if places become available.

CopingHagen · 30/01/2025 15:13

Thanks @WeCantGoOverIt

I think (I know!) I am just getting grumpy with the waiting, but it seemed like an odd and rather redundant deadline - they may as well say they'd tell everyone if they'd been successful or not by the start of the new academic year.

Ah that makes sense, I wondered how they managed to make it all work!

Unexpecteddrivinginstructor · 30/01/2025 16:09

Also many applicants are not strategic so may only get a few interviews/offers or only one. Once the students with multiple offers start to release the places they don't want there will be a trickle down. That is why some places don't accept/ reject until much later, or offer in batches.

CycleQueen · 30/01/2025 16:44

Not sure if it's better to wait and not know or have the certainty of knowing you need to go to plan B!!
So, we are slowly narrowing it down, with not a lot of options - accepting that this is the most competitive application process!! We now have 2x pre interview rejections (yes we did apply strategically but the conversion from BMAT to UCAT was not in our favour) and one waiting list place. Fingers crossed for the other interview to come good - as @mumsneedwine says, you only need one place!! Good luck to everyone with the next stages of the process.

Justlikingit · 30/01/2025 18:18

So sorry to hear about the redirections from Cambridge. My older DC went through the same a few years ago, he was devastated, but now he really couldn’t be happier. That’s bring very honest.
Non-medic. He went to the university that has created lots of opportunities for him and he has contributed a lot too. Absolutely no regrets at all.

Surely Notts must send offers out by May, or am I being Naive???

Rejected also for DS from Cambridge. Pooled, but still a no. Exeter interview went okay today. so now we wait.

mumsneedwine · 30/01/2025 18:27

Notts will start offering soon. They just say they'll be all done by May (like everyone as it's ucas deadline).

Hang in there, all be over soon. It's Cambridges loss and somewhere else's gain.

My daughter is 1st year Exeter and absolutely loving it. I like your username btw. Are you Australian?

Justlikingit · 31/01/2025 11:21

Notts interview done now, one more to go next week. Then it will be 2nd set of mocks after the half term break.

CopingHagen · 31/01/2025 12:45

TSR seems to think Leeds offers are coming out. Good luck to all waiting (not sure if DC will even check emails today as straight from
college to work!)

maybemedmum · 31/01/2025 13:10

DD waitlisted at Leeds. Not the 18th birthday news she wanted, but not a full rejection...

ItsYourMoneyRalf · 31/01/2025 13:28

@W0W0tnow - yes, hence use name revealing both country and age in one foul swoop lol. Hoping we get an Exeter or QMUL offer. Fingers crossed. Or else we need a plan B.

Optimum19 · 31/01/2025 14:26

Rejection for DD from Leeds. Hope others get better news.

maybemedmum · 31/01/2025 14:31

Sorry to hear that, @Optimum19 . Hope she's OK. On to the next one...

Think there are a couple more with Leeds on here. Hope someone has good news!
