@SoTiredNeedHoliday thank you. I’ve realised there are some strange people popping out of the woodwork about medicine. A few who really don’t like anyone disagreeing with them 😂😂

I wonder if one in particular is a reincarnation of a previous poster who was very argumentative??
Just popped by from the 2019 cohort, DS went to UEA first choice, loved it and is just waiting to hear where his core training placement will be. Reading your posts is making me nostalgic but I also remember how stressful it all was. Good luck to you all.

mumsneedwine · 20/03/2025 15:30

@Sluj they are the same person (has been confirmed by someone who knows them). It’s a real shame as they ruin every discussion.

Sluj · 20/03/2025 16:56

I see, wouldn't care to meet them in real life !

HI @mumsneedwine

I remember you talking about your child going to Nottingham. can you recommend which accommodation is good to book? Also we will go to the offer day and I was thinking of somewhere outside the campus , I was told Lenton is a good area , what you think?

mumsneedwine · 20/03/2025 17:55

@Ib1234567all the accommodation at Notts seems nice. Living on the campus means you walk to the medical school across the Meadows, which seems a good chance to chat and make friends. Lots of them live in Lenton from 2nd year, or Dunkirk (which is right next to the hospital). For open day there is a nice hotel in the campus but it books up v fast. Notts is easy to get around due to the trams. Hope that’s helpful.

Congrats re Newcastle offers, great to see!

Still waiting to hear from Bristol and Southampton here. Figure all the time there’s not a ‘no’, there’s still a chance!

MaybeaMedic · 20/03/2025 18:46

Another Newcastle offer received here - also want to echo the thanks for @mumsneedwine - your advice and support has been invaluable. Like others, this was all completely new to us and I feel you have managed to guide so many of us through so THANK YOU 🙏

opoponax · 20/03/2025 19:21

I have two DC at Newcastle and I am happy to answer any questions for those with decisions to make. @Mumsneedwine helped both my DC so much when they were applying. Forever grateful.

mumsneedwine · 20/03/2025 19:25

😍 thanks all. It is an absolute pleasure to help just a little. Being a doctor is an amazing job (even in the current NHS). And they’ll have a fantastic 5/6 years studying it too 😊

Africa2go · 20/03/2025 19:33

@Ib1234567 my DC was in halls at Notts. Happy to PM you with their take on halls.

mumsneedwine · 20/03/2025 19:43

Mine thought the food was awful but the social side made it worth it. And she stocked up at Spa in the Union using the credit on the card thing, Best friends are still the ones she met in halls in the first year.

Niceday203 · 21/03/2025 03:56

If unsure which offer to accept, what is the latest it can be accepted and does this cause major difficulties with accommodation. Seeing the posts about acceptance and halls, is a bit worrying.

WeCantGoOverIt · 21/03/2025 08:08

Latest to firm is 5 June. Accommodation wise you should still be offered accommodation - the problem is choice. Universities often allocate accommodation on a first come first served basis so you are less likely to get your preferred choice of accommodation. Different universities open their accommodation offers on different dates and some won’t have started taking applications yet.

Just read that back - I am sure I could have managed to squeeze the word ‘accommodation’ in a few more times! 😂

mumsneedwine · 21/03/2025 09:05

V few Unis do halls on first come basis thankfully. Notts do, but so many places become available after results day and I’ve yet to meet a student who didn’t get on campus if wanted, even through clearing. Don’t feel forced into a decision until ready. V v few Unis will not have enough accommodation for all their firm first years.

Niceday203 · 21/03/2025 11:15

Thanks everyone for all the advice through a rollercoaster few months. Now “just” A levels to go 😬

Justlikingit · 24/03/2025 21:13

DD finally heard back from Notts today. It’s another waiting list place for her.
just waiting on Liverpool now… which she said was her worst interview

Brilliant to have an offer - hope she gets good news from Liverpool soon

ipredictariot5 · 25/03/2025 18:51

The waiting lists will start throwing up offers soon as people firm. My DD has 2 medicine offers and 1 paramedic offer -
she’s going to decline one medicine offer and insure the unconditional paramedic one - she can’t bear the idea of not going to University again!

Are the two medicine offers the same grade requirement? Totally makes sense to chose the preferred one and then insure the paramedic. Can I ask where the offer is from for the paramedic course? My DD (still only yr11) second choice career is as a paramedic and so I can see her going for that as a 5th choice on her UCAS.

justjuggling · 25/03/2025 20:50

Has anyone heard from Southampton yet?
