Will try to add old threads, maybe good for us to give an update of where our DCs are at

What would your advice be for my son? He applied to Sheffield, Birmingham, Belfast, Norwich (his order of preference) and now has offers from Birmingham and Norwich. Wait listed for Sheffield and it sounds like waitlisted for QUB (he got an email saying he isn’t in the first tranche of offers but not rejected either). Should he just firm Birmingham and insurance Norwich (both AAA offers)? If he does get QUB the offer is likely to be A star AA with no wriggle room so no good as insurance.
Am I correct that he can’t firm one and remain on a waitlist?

mumsneedwine · 15/03/2025 17:41

@Miloarmadillo2you can’t stay on waitlists if hold any offers. However no decisions need to be made until May so can wait a bit longer to see what happens. No rush.

Miloarmadillo2 · 16/03/2025 08:20

@mumsneedwine thank you.

First offers out for QUB - daughter didn't get one. Bit demotivating but knows there's still hope. Anyone any joy there?

@Optimum19 my DD also didn't get an early offer. Fingers crossed for April when the majority come out. DD was a bit demotivated too, its such a difficult process.

SoTiredNeedHoliday · 16/03/2025 16:24

@Africa2go
I see on the QUB page where it says 300 offers have been issued. but it also says
The final ranking for offers cannot be made until all interviews are completed. Normally a number of offers are given before the last interview date and this year the early offers were released on Friday 14 March 2025. However, the majority of decisions will not be made available until mid April 2025. At that stage we will make some further offers and process our unsuccessful decisions. We may also delay decisions on some applications so that we can monitor applicant replies and assess whether we are able to make some further offers before the UCAS decision deadline on 14 May 2025. Please see table below for the number of offers made in the 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 (To Date) UCAS Application Cycles.

I wonder if the 300 is a typo - or are they offering a whole lot more this year than previous? As they still have 1 candidate interview round to go as well.

WeCantGoOverIt · 16/03/2025 16:54

Previous years stats for offers made by QUB here:

Unfortunately don't think 300 is a typo is a mistake. Think there'll only be another 130-150. Think it's the majority of decisions, of which most will be rejections and some waitlisted. I'm not too optimistic.

Optimum19 · 16/03/2025 18:17

*Sorry - not a typo or a mistake

Africa2go · 16/03/2025 21:53

@SoTiredNeedHoliday no, as above, 300 isn't a typo, it's not too dissimilar from previous years. Agree more offers will come.

WeCantGoOverIt · 18/03/2025 11:06

A decision has been made here; firm and insurance. DC was going to go to offer holder’s day but was worried about accommodation waiting until then. At least that will be more days they can focus on revision; a couple of days off wouldn’t necessarily have been a bad thing but very close to exams and the travel itself would have been tiring.

Optimum19 · 18/03/2025 16:17

Congratulations @WeCantGoOverIt. So good to final decisions. Where did he pick?

WeCantGoOverIt · 18/03/2025 16:33

Edinburgh.

Edinburgh.

My daughter is considering Edinburgh too, what was it that your DC preferred there?

I’m not sure! He had been preferring another uni. I think when he looked more closely at the course he decided he preferred Edinburgh. Some intercalated options appealed too. Maybe Edinburgh sold itself more at interview/open day? The offer was a little lower from Edinburgh too.

maybemedmum · 20/03/2025 10:59

Newcastle offer just in here. And they treat the IB slightly differently to the other places she's applied, so in a way it's a lower offer than the others. So she's now ready to submit her firm (Oxford) and insurance (Newcastle) choices, withdraw from the others and turn fully for the next hurdle of getting the grades.
DD's definitely had an easier ride through the last few months than most due to a very good UCAT, but it's still felt like a long and tough process. I have so much respect for our kids for putting themselves through it, and I really hope that those who are still waiting get some good news soon.

mumsneedwine · 20/03/2025 11:25

@maybemedmumhuge congratulations.

Lurea · 20/03/2025 11:25

mumsneedwine · 20/03/2025 13:34

@SoTiredNeedHoliday thank you. I’ve realised there are some strange people popping out of the woodwork about medicine. A few who really don’t like anyone disagreeing with them 😂😂
