Which courses have a 50% failure to concert? Other than C maths of course, but hitch is designed that way

Just to let everyone know, the invitations to our STEP preparation webinar series for UK State School Cambridge Offer Holders went out a couple of weeks ago.

If your DC attends a UK State School and has an offer from Cambridge which includes STEP then they should have received an email from the Cambridge Admissions Office with details on how to register. If they are eligible but can't find the email then please check spam first, and contact the STEP Support Programme if you can't find it!

We've had lots of registrations already, just want to make sure we pick up as many people as possible!

Edited

My son is really enjoying the STEP Support Programme. Thank you for making it a challenge rather than a chore.

nightowlly · 04/06/2024 01:05

How is it going for STEP mums? DS will be submitting his UCAS choices in the next day or two as well as taking STEP2. He’s at an independent school but the only one taking it in his year.

IThinkIMadeItWorse · 04/06/2024 11:11

Hi @nightowlly he says he's feeling ok about it, he's done loads of past paper questions. This morning he was doing a STEP III mechanics question so hopefully that is probably useful as he has further mechanics on Friday as well this week (and Physics 2 Thursday morning.) He's the only one doing STEP at his college.

What is your DS going to put as his insurance? My DS has Warwick which feels like a bit of a high risk/high reward strategy. He wanted to choose somewhere he would definitely be happy to go and their maths course seems great.

User11010866 · 04/06/2024 14:55

DC was suggested not to touch the mechanics' STEP questions as it's time-consuming.

nightowlly · 04/06/2024 18:05

Hi @IThinkIMadeItWorse, same sorts of discussions here. DS thinking about Imperial or another which is safer and also nice but further away.

great that that have choice

Cremebrulee45 · 07/07/2024 10:56

Very relieved and happy DD here who got her (IB) grades yesterday and made her offer for HSPS at Cambridge. Wishing all the best to those of you waiting on results next month.

IThinkIMadeItWorse · 07/07/2024 11:22

Congratulations @Cremebrulee45 that is brilliant. So pleased for your DD. Trying not to think about it too much here though he thinks the STEP papers went well.

Cremebrulee45 · 07/07/2024 11:49

Thanks @IThinkIMadeItWorse . Must be hard to have to do an additional exam on top of usual ones at this stage. Fingers crossed.

Congratulations! The IB is a demanding course- well done to your dd!

Cremebrulee45 · 07/07/2024 14:09

Thank you @ShanghaiDiva . Yes it was tough and for unknown reasons Cambridge make the offers for IB particularly hard!

nightowlly · 07/07/2024 18:14

Congrats @CremeBrulee45. DS did well met his IB points offer for Cambridge but we still have to wait for the STEP results

Cremebrulee45 · 08/07/2024 09:44

Congrats to your DS @nightowlly ! And good luck with STEP. When do results come out?

nightowlly · 08/07/2024 12:28

Cremebrulee45 · 08/07/2024 09:44

Congrats to your DS @nightowlly ! And good luck with STEP. When do results come out?

15 Aug - same day as A level results

KazzaV · 12/07/2024 20:19

My DD made her IB grade for Oxford - she worked very hard so deserves it I reckon

PettsWoodParadise · 12/07/2024 20:38

Congrats to your DD @KazzaV . On my daughter’s results day last year it was bittersweet as whilst she got her place some of her friends didn’t and they all worked hard.

IThinkIMadeItWorse · 12/07/2024 20:52

Congrats @KazzaV the IB is really hard so well done to your DD!

Well done to @nightowlly DS as well, fingers crossed for the STEP results.

couchparsnip · 14/07/2024 10:15

I've just found this thread so am place marking - I'm sure I'll have many questions in a month when things start to happen! DS needs two further As to get his place at Oxford to do (read?) Physics. I have no experience of going away to uni at all so it's going to be a sharp learning curve for all of us!

KazzaV · 14/07/2024 15:55

Thanks both - they do all work hard I’m sure but I can only be sure for my DD 😊 now got reading list books to buy for her course

lullubell · 08/08/2024 16:40

Hi all. Is there a new thread for parents of kids that have an Oxbridge offer in advance of A level results day next week? Feeling the nerves second hand all over again!!

Panicmode1 · 08/08/2024 17:31

Will be thinking of everyone nervously waiting for results, and really hoping that they've all made it - these last few days before results come out are so nerve-wracking; I remember it well.

Please feel free to come and join us here once you have news...I found it super helpful as a complete Oxbridge ignoramus!

HewasH2O · 08/08/2024 19:50

Although in fairness it's not part 2 as the thread has been going for at least 5 years & probably longer.

Good luck everyone

nightowlly · 08/08/2024 19:59

Panicmode1 I think this is our thread as it's for 2024 entrants and a new thread will be started, or has already been started for those starting uni in 2025. Definite nerves now awaiting the STEP result

lullubell · 08/08/2024 20:04

Thank you all!! Good luck everyone!

Panicmode1 · 08/08/2024 21:12

@nightowlly I know, it's just that link is to the long running Oxbridge attendees thread - so there are parents of graduates, undergrads and and a couple of IB 2024 starters on there and I was just inviting those who'd like to jump on it next Thursday, to join in. I found it really helpful when DS got in as it wasn't a world I was familiar with.
