Hi all, I'm crawling out of the lurking cupboard having followed these threads for quite some time. Thanks to you all for so much useful information and congrats to those with Oxford offers already. Nervously awaiting the outcome from C on Weds here, DD decided quite late in the day to apply after battling herself with quite a lot of imposter syndrome I think. She eventually decided to but hasnt really discussed it at all and really doesnt think she's got a chance. She's the only Oxbridge applicant from her state school whereas there's normally a few that apply and get in each year. All eyes are sort ot on her but likewise not much emphasis is placed on it either hence the lack of those applying I suppose. She's had offers for the 4 other places she applied to and of those there is one she is especially keen on. It will be good to be able to plan properly whatever the outcome. Only one more sleep after this one! Wishing everyone the best of luck and as has been said before, it takes a lot of courage to apply and stick your neck out for such a competitive process and shows guts and determination which will stand them really well in the future.

Hope that link works. It shows how well students thought their interview went compared to if they got an offer or not.

@Ragdollcharlie Thanks for that chart! I’ve often wondered whether anyone had done any research into this, given that, anecdotally, candidates’ assessments of their interviews seems to bear no relation to likelihood of offers!

There’s hope for everyone

Braid2 · 23/01/2024 08:30

Good luck to everyone supporting - whatever the result. Waiting for C decision for DD. She only has one other offer at this stage, with potential interviews for other options, but no news yet. It's a lot this week with mocks exams on-going too. Been through this process for O before but this feels more stressful with the longer wait time and the less favourable odds post interview.

MirandaWest · 23/01/2024 11:30

Hope everyone waiting for Cambridge decisions is holding up Ok. Feels like ages since the Oxford decisions but has only been two weeks…

MirandaWest · 23/01/2024 11:31

I am wondering how DDs friends who’ve applied to Cambridge will get on and how DD will feel about it all too.

timetochangethering · 23/01/2024 13:36

Does anyone know what time the Cambridge decisions come through?

Lightsabre · 23/01/2024 14:14

Popping in to say good luck to all of your dc for tomorrow.

If it isn't the news you were hoping for, we also have a 'redirected from Oxbridge' thread going.

Pleasealexa · 23/01/2024 14:17

@MirandaWest it has felt ages since the interview..not sure why C takes longer to let applicants know.

InvestedButNotOverinvested · 23/01/2024 14:35

Also thinking of all the C applicants and hoping you get good news tomorrow.

Panicmode1 · 23/01/2024 15:33

I think that they interview a higher percentage of applicants than Oxford @Pleasealexa so it takes a bit longer to make decisions?!

Will be thinking of all of the C parents tomorrow - was in your place two years ago now (seems like yesterday). May the gods be kind - and the emails come out early!!

lifeturnsonadime · 23/01/2024 17:20

Good luck to everyone waiting on C tomorrow. As Lightsabre said there is a redirected thread for those who want to join us x

Just spoken to DS about tomorrow - I tried to do the whole "great you have given it a try" etc but he seemed to take it the wrong way and said I shouldn't assume he hasn't got in. Luckily defin not in the "first disappointment" camp as a late bloomer so will hopefully take it on the chin if goes the wrong way. Has only one offer so far (law). He's now decided he's not keen on the offer he has, but hoping the offer holder day will help. We should find out the LNAT results next month, and hoping that will give an indication of which of the other unis might give him an offer. Bristol seems super difficult and trying to manage expectations re there as well.

I don't know why this is so stressful. Didn't go myself but many friends and colleagues who did so aware that it doesn't make that much difference in life. Somehow though once you are on this juggernaut it seems to take you along with it. DD (Year 10) has now said she wants to apply too and I inwardly groaned.

Redhotchillipeppers · 23/01/2024 17:35

My DD in year 10 is considering Oxbridge too. It’s a complete turn around from what she was saying during the summer when DS went to open days.

ShanghaiDiva · 23/01/2024 17:54

Good luck to all the Cambridge hopefuls tomorrow! Dd waiting to hear about Nat Sci.

Pleasealexa · 23/01/2024 17:55

@Panicmode1 valid point!

Good luck everyone for tomorrow.

mushroom3 · 23/01/2024 17:59

Good luck to all the Cambridge applicants on here x

Rollergirl11 · 23/01/2024 17:59

DD has decided she’s not going to go in to college tomorrow. She only has one lesson anyway. At least it means she can read the email/check UCAS as soon as it comes out through. Not sure how much sleep either of us will get tonight!

Redhotchillipeppers · 23/01/2024 18:07

DS has a free period 10-11 so should be able to check then

prettycosmos · 23/01/2024 18:09

checking in here for solidarity! Just home from work and really feleing the nerves now. DD is going into school in the morning. Im collecting her at lunchtime anyway as travelling down for my Dads funeral. She has said she isnt going to check emails till she gets home. I will be a wreck all morning! When ds applied in 2016 they got sent an actuall letter in the post with decision on it. I remember getting home before he got in from school and sitting staring at the envelope till he got in and opened it! It was good news for him but we will wait and see what tomorrow brings.

allquiettonight · 23/01/2024 18:12

@Redhotchillipeppers it must be hard if your older sibling either does/doesn't get in. DD much less stoic so dreading going through this with her.... My DM happily doesn't remember any of this, as she invented me going to an Oxford interview the other day. We had quite a long argument as she insisted I had done - think I would have remembered. She was most put out, as was I.

TenSheds · 23/01/2024 19:20

Wishing all the C parents and DC a peaceful night's sleep, and hope to see a bounty of offers tomorrow morning. 🍀Whoever said upthread that it won't be a productive day for your households is spot on!

Ha ha! I wonder what we will remember from this experience in 20-30 years time.
