University offers coming in?

Just for nosiness and due to excitement about DS’s application going in, wondered if we could have a thread with people sharing offers as they are received, during this early phase.

Has anyone had an offer yet? Who will be first?

And totally realise that most won’t have applied yet and won’t do so for months and that’s absolutely fine and more normal.

Dd has received an offer from Exeter for natural sciences.

First offer I have heard from Exeter - well done to your daughter.

Unfortunately I will now be checking far to regularly to see if my son gets an offer too even though I know this will be foolish given it is a totally different department 🙄.

Rollergirl11 · 23/10/2023 11:35

@Jaxx same here! It’s crazy isn’t it? Having to actively stop myself asking DD to check her email which is ridiculous. 😆

Jaxx · 23/10/2023 11:42

@Rollergirl11 Sod asking my son - I have his UCAS log in details 😈

lifeturnsonadime · 23/10/2023 11:54

Ah it's such a stressful time isn't it? My DS has 2 offers now but they are his 4th and 5th choice.

I know UCL won't give early offers, Oxford is what it is, so just wondering about KCL.

If he got an offer from KCL then that would be a definite relief because it's actually somewhere he really wants to go. I am hoping he hears before he hears the whether he's been short listed for Oxford or not!

We had a bit of excitement over KCL a couple of weeks ago when they asked for mitigating circumstances, but as they related to gcse results they said they weren't relevant 'as they don't consider GCSE grades in their decision making', since then nothing!

This is going to be a long few weeks/ months....

Rollergirl11 · 23/10/2023 13:39

@jaxx hahaha. Now I’m trying to work out how I can get DD’s UCAS log-in without asking her! 🤭

@lifeturnsonadime yep the waiting is not fun!

We are waiting for the same 3 you are, I think DD will need an interview at UCL for her course but I don't know when they conduct them for English. She's said if she doesn't get an Oxford place she's fine with any of the London uni's as she did a summer school at UCL and loved it and we visited Kings last weekend (now both tested positive with covid lol) and she really liked it there as well. Leeds is literally her back ups of back ups and she doesn't care much about Warwick lol.

Dixiechickonhols · 23/10/2023 17:07

Mine has received her first offer today from Queens Belfast for law with politics AAA. Her other choices are all lnat required so I assume will take longer to hear as lnat results were only released to universities 21/10.

TooOldForThisNonsense · 23/10/2023 17:09

Mine hasn’t applied yet, school imposed deadline is end of November. We are in Scotland so he’s applying with grades in hand (5 As at higher) so hoping he hears quickly when he does.

Frazzledmum239 · 23/10/2023 19:12

My son has received an offer from Exeter for History today.

Rollergirl11 · 23/10/2023 19:52

@Frazzledmum239 congratulations to your DS. Here’s hoping DD hears from Exeter soon. 🤞

Frazzledmum239 · 23/10/2023 19:12

My son has received an offer from Exeter for History today.

That’s good news. Glad to hear the offers have started. Had he applied with predicted grades or having already got his A Levels/qualifications?

So nice to have some offers in the bag. Congratulations to him.

@WombatChocolate, its great he has one in the bag, the offer was based on predicted grades.

tiggerandpoohtoo · 23/10/2023 21:57

Has anyone had any chemistry offers yet? DD has only had the one for York. We are waiting for Warwick and Nottingham

Lightsabre · 23/10/2023 22:00

@tiggerandpoohtoo, ds hasn't had any chemistry offers yet.

Norma27 · 24/10/2023 05:07

My daughter received an offer from York yesterday, so just over one week after sending in UCAS form. It’s for History and French and they specified A for History and B for French.
She has also applied to Oxford, Durham, Leeds and Nottingham.

catmomof3 · 24/10/2023 09:21

@Norma27

Congrats to your daughter! My daughter was going to apply for English at York but switched it last minute to Warwick.

Rollergirl11 · 24/10/2023 09:25

@catmomof3 same here. It was a toss up for DD’s final choice between Warwick and York for English Lit and she went with Warwick.

Does your DD have any offers yet?

Norma27 · 24/10/2023 09:42

I think Warwick was too close to home to consider!
She loved Birmingham which is where I went but then decided she wanted to move away.
Funnily enough she is now wondering if Durham and York are too far away 🤣
Good luck to everyone!

catmomof3 · 24/10/2023 09:46

@Rollergirl11 She got an offer from Leeds for English and Sociology. They sent her two offers, AAB the standard and BBB contextual if she makes them her firm (unlikely lol). She really loved last years comparative lit course at Leeds but they changed all the modules so she chose double honours instead.

Rollergirl11 · 24/10/2023 10:03

@Norma27 yes DD has applied for Durham and I’m kind of hoping she doesn’t go there as it’s 275 miles away from us!! 😬

@catmomof3 ahhh DD was toying with Leeds at one point for potential insurance but ended up going with Lancaster which is also AAB.

TheOnlyMrsW · 24/10/2023 10:50

So nice to hear about all the offers coming in, we've got everything crossed that DD's will be in next week after they go back from half-term. @catmomof3 do you mind if I ask a question about the Leeds contextual offer - did your DD submit the access to Leeds form at the same time as her UCAS application? I've tried to ask the question of admissions but had no response yet.........I'm worried if we have to do the form at the same time as it needs school input and they're being useless!

My daughter didn't apply to access to leeds it flagged her up, she received a standard offer one week then the next week got an email from access to leeds saying if she accepts their contextual offer she has to firm them and do their little course.

stoneysongs · 24/10/2023 11:02

Wow, do Leeds only give contextual offers if you firm? So someone with contextual flags who has Leeds as insurance gets the standard offer? That doesn't seem in the spirit of widening participation 🤯

To be honest I'm not sure how A2L works if you apply before getting an offer. It might be different and you get a contextual offer first.

TheOnlyMrsW · 24/10/2023 13:30

From what I've seen from Dd's choices most contextual offers are for firm only........that's Cardiff, Leeds, Manchester, Leicester and Birmingham, it's quite common I think
