University offers coming in?

Just for nosiness and due to excitement about DS’s application going in, wondered if we could have a thread with people sharing offers as they are received, during this early phase.

Has anyone had an offer yet? Who will be first?

And totally realise that most won’t have applied yet and won’t do so for months and that’s absolutely fine and more normal.

Dd school is strict on not going up grades - can go up by 1 max. I know parents so go and ask for higher but on the whole it tends to work out and the students get reasonable places

You have to keep in mind that there's a high degree of self-selection bias in that spreadsheet. The people filling in have a) applied well before the deadline, b) taken to a forum focussed on discussing university entry, and c) gone to the trouble of completing a form to show off their predicted grades and offers. That is why there are very many people in the spreadsheet with very high predicted grades applying to RG universities and no people telling the world of their CCD offer for Teesside (or pretty much any post-92 university).

The other thing that is missing from the spreadsheet is whether the person is a home or international student. Many universities have different pools for international and home students and will start offering earlier to their international pool than to their home pool. There are several courses at my university listed on the spreadsheet where the applicant has to be an international applicant because the number of offers they have made to UK students is 0.

Completely agree.

Reddit is a popular forum among international applicants. It would not hold the same attraction for home applicants.

A lot of the offers on that spreadsheet are also likely to be to Oxbridge applicants who have to send in their UCAS forms early. They will all be predicted As / Astars.

Lightsabre · 14/11/2023 18:51

@PumpkinKnitter, no Oxbridge applicants will have received offers yet.

@PumpkinKnitter, no Oxbridge applicants will have received offers yet.

That wasn't what the poster was saying though - only that it is a very self-selected group with high predicted grades.

stoneysongs · 14/11/2023 19:39

Lots of Oxbridge applicants will have received offers from their other choices, DD has two now.

mondaytosunday · 14/11/2023 21:02

Yea I'd look at that list with mainly A stars and if I was predicted Bs and Cs I'd not be adding myself to that list!

ChnandlerBong · 15/11/2023 07:16

Just re Bath- ds is second year mech eng- the accommodation was a nightmare even if it was your first choice this year. Definitely get application in on time and list ALL options you could accept!

DD currently holding 4 offers and waiting to hear from Cambridge and all she can say is that she wishes she’d applied to Bristol 🙄

Mumski45 · 15/11/2023 07:57

I have looked at the list and it's quite scary. It would be really useful to see the kind of offers being made to students with a range of predictions.

I think this will start to happen over the next few weeks. Lots of places still haven't submitted, so it always skews to A* students at first, the ones who have the early deadline.

My son has received offer from KCL this evening for History. He is over the moon.

spacechimp79 · 15/11/2023 21:39

That is great news @Frazzledmum239 My DS is waiting for UCL so hope he hears soon.

Great stuff, my son also has an offer from KCL for History, also over the moon!

SuccessM · 15/11/2023 22:25

My daughter received an offer from Warwick this evening for BSc Economics. We thank God for this as it has made up for the LSE rejection. Hope it goes well for everyone.

notfeelingcreative · 15/11/2023 22:31

@SuccessM what wonderful news!!! Warwick is brilliant for economics.

SuccessM · 15/11/2023 22:53

@notfeelingcreative Thanks a lot. Yes Warwick is great for Economics. We're very happy with the offer. She has this and Bristol offer now. We'll definitely relax.

Delphigirl · 16/11/2023 00:07

Dd got her first offer today . ABB for Masters in Arabic from Exeter - her first choice. Predicted Astar Astar A so she is delighted.

mondaytosunday · 16/11/2023 10:08

Great these offers are coming in! Just wish Bath would pull its finger out! My DD said if Bath looked like Cambridge she'd be perfectly happy there 🤦🏻‍♀️. She hates glass and steel architecture (and I hate concrete).

ShanghaiDiva · 16/11/2023 10:17

@mondaytosunday
we are also waiting for Bath. It’s DD’s top choice assuming no offer from Cambridge.

QueenMabby · 16/11/2023 10:48

Bath waiting here too. It's DS's top choice and the only one of his five he's not heard from.

SnoopDogisamenace · 16/11/2023 15:20

Waiting on St Andrews and Edinburgh. As we’re RUK think we’ve got a long wait ahead.

catmomof3 · 16/11/2023 17:38

My daughter just got an offer from KCL! Just waiting on Oxford and UCL.

Makingplansfor2029 · 16/11/2023 22:10

Has anyone heard anything from Newcastle?

Rollergirl11 · 17/11/2023 08:06

Just a quick question about offers and EPQ. DD has her EPQ predicted grade of A included on her UCAS application. She has had 3 conditional offers so far and none of them mention her EPQ in their offer so as far as we are concerned her EPQ is irrelevant to the offer. So if she doesn’t get the A in EPQ it has no bearing on her offers? One of her teachers though is saying that the grade in her EPQ is implicit to her application. Surely this is incorrect? They have given a conditional offer and have stated the conditions that are to be met, of which EPQ is not one of them? DD is panicking now!
