University offers coming in?

Just for nosiness and due to excitement about DS’s application going in, wondered if we could have a thread with people sharing offers as they are received, during this early phase.

Has anyone had an offer yet? Who will be first?

And totally realise that most won’t have applied yet and won’t do so for months and that’s absolutely fine and more normal.

Has anyone heard offers from Newcastle or Lancaster yet ?

Nothing from Lancaster for us yet.

We're also waiting on Bath.

Anyone else?

mondaytosunday · 01/11/2023 13:06

@UZS totally agree! It's a ridiculous system, unnecessarily stressful for everyone. Grade course work, have termly exams, make offers firm. Students still have to finish the year to 'graduate' from school/sixth form so no slacking off.

Jaxx · 01/11/2023 14:14

So received notification from UCAS and Exeter today that there was an error and there is no need for him to firm Exeter to benefit from the dropped grade for A or above in EPQ.

Given he was predicted A Star for his EPQ and the teacher who marked it over half term told him it was “great”, feel relatively secure that it is AAB from Exeter now whether he firms (in the event of not getting an offer from Cambridge and/or Durham) or insures. Great news!

UZS · 01/11/2023 15:07

My understanding is that St. Andrews and Durham are both known to take longer than most others to make offers

But does anyone have experience (older siblings, friends, etc) with Bristol and their timing for offers?

stoneysongs · 01/11/2023 15:27

Bristol have started offering already for some subjects, it depends on what the course is I think.

@UZS our experience from last year is that Bristol can be very quick - sometimes it was almost overnight for people with very high predicted grades (so clearly they can't be reading the PS). Others were often put on hold for a while. This year I know of a Bristol contextual offer for psychology that has been made already.

Calmmumnot · 01/11/2023 17:48

I have heard offers for Newcastle in the last week

spacechimp79 · 01/11/2023 17:50

DS is waiting for Lancaster and I haven't seen anybody mention an offer from them yet.

MirandaWest · 01/11/2023 18:01

DD got an offer from Bristol pretty quickly (history and Spanish) but other people she knows have been put on hold (despite having similar A Level predictions, although different subjects)

berrymiss · 01/11/2023 18:06

We went to Edin Uni Fine Art and Glasgow School of Art open days last weekend. Both stated that they wait until UCAS deadline to consider all applications together at the same time. So I'm totally confused now as to whether submitting early would be advantageous or not. Dd has her A levels already, though she does need to produce a portfolio of work which they'll look at.

PumpkinKnitter · 01/11/2023 18:10

Quick offer from Bristol here too for neuroscience. Contextual, so I wonder if that makes a difference? On the other hand, nothing from Exeter.

UniDaysAcoming · 01/11/2023 18:12

@Revengeofthepangolins and pp who replied. Thanks yes, you are right.
DS has 1,2&3 at the higher grade and 4&5 are a grade lower.
He should have heard from 1,2&3 before needing to firm - so hopefully it will all be fine.
He has Oxford , Warwick and Imperial as the top three and will be happy to go to any of them.

Tiggermum14 · 01/11/2023 20:08

DS received an offer from Edinburgh today (Maths) - A star A star A. His Bristol offer was A star A A, so looking likely to be the insurance. He’s also applied to Bath, Cambridge and Durham. He has high predicted grades…

PumpkinKnitter · 01/11/2023 22:33

@Tiggermum14 That’s really early for an offer from Edinburgh. Congratulations to your DS! Edinburgh is my DD’s top choice and she is resigned to a long wait before hearing. Bristol will also be her insurance, or her firm if she doesn’t get an offer from Edinburgh (or Oxford, which is her wildcard).

Headingto18 · 01/11/2023 22:49

@Tiggermum14 oh wow Edinburgh already! DD has applied for joint maths; has Bristol offer but assume Edinburgh, Durham, KCL will be much slower!

MirandaWest · 02/11/2023 06:31

That is a nice early Edinburgh offer @Tiggermum14 😊 DD also expecting a long wait to hear from them.

ShanghaiDiva · 02/11/2023 06:37

@QueenMabby
dd is also waiting for Bath.

QueenMabby · 02/11/2023 07:09

ShanghaiDiva · 02/11/2023 06:37

@QueenMabby
dd is also waiting for Bath.

What has she applied for @ShanghaiDiva? DS is waiting for physics with astrophysics.

Dazed656 · 02/11/2023 09:06

I’ve noticed that Stem type course offers seem to come out faster - is this a thing? I’ve seen a few Edinburgh offers on Reddit but all stem. DC waiting for Edinburgh but for essay subjects.

ShanghaiDiva · 02/11/2023 10:24

@QueenMabby
natural sciences. Bath is her new number one choice. She sat the nsaa for Cambridge but had a horrible cold on the day and didn’t feel it went that well. But Bath accommodation will bankrupt me…😭

mondaytosunday · 02/11/2023 10:29

@ShanghaiDiva @QueenMabby Bath is mine's second choice. Sociology- I saw on last year's Bath 2023 on TSR that offers started coming out late November but of course still made offers in the new year. Really hope she gets an offer before Christmas! First choice Cambridge so it would take some pressure off.

dynastyfan · 02/11/2023 11:46

Has anyone's child received offers from LSE,UCL or KCL yet ?

RaelImperialAerosolKid · 02/11/2023 11:51

@dynastyfan - no still waiting for UCL and KCL - it's only been two weeks but seems like an eternity.

SuccessM · 02/11/2023 12:15

My daughter got offer from Bristol for Economics 9 days after she swapped King's College for Bristol as she needed Insurance school and I advised her that King's college is not a good Insurance school as they're very unpredictable with their offers.
