University offers coming in?

Just for nosiness and due to excitement about DS’s application going in, wondered if we could have a thread with people sharing offers as they are received, during this early phase.

Has anyone had an offer yet? Who will be first?

And totally realise that most won’t have applied yet and won’t do so for months and that’s absolutely fine and more normal.

My DD has applied for English - she has an offer from York and Southampton and Exter just this morning. She still has the Cambridge rigmarole and Durham (which will take forever).

sambamyty · 26/10/2023 13:32

@StElwicks congrats ! Did they all come in this morning?

StElwicks · 26/10/2023 13:35

York and Southampton were in the last couple of weeks. She is really pleased, she loved Exeter!

daffodilandtulip · 26/10/2023 14:04

We've got her A*s. Thanks everyone upthread.

Rollergirl11 · 26/10/2023 14:19

@StElwicks congratulations to your DD. My DD has also applied to Cambridge, Durham and Exeter for English as well as Warwick and Lancaster. Like your DD she really loved Exeter and is really hoping they will offer.

Do you mind me asking what your DD’s predicted grades are and when she put her application in?

StElwicks · 26/10/2023 17:22

@Rollergirl11 She has 3 A* prediction and I think sent her application in pretty much the earliest you can. I think Exeter will be her main choice if C’bridge does not work. We are very much managing expectations there, having had a son who has done the process before (now happily at Durham).

Rollergirl11 · 26/10/2023 17:57

Thanks @StElwicks. DD would be really happy at Exeter too. I think she liked the course there the most out of all her choices, including Cambridge.

She’s just had her Exeter offer through. ABC with the A being in English. Not sure why it’s so low. Could it be contextual? Although it doesn’t say that it is and I can’t think why it would be.

StElwicks · 26/10/2023 18:00

That is a fab offer! She must be thrilled.

ShanghaiDiva · 26/10/2023 18:02

@Rollergirl11
congratulations to your dd! Great offer from Exeter! 🎉

lifeturnsonadime · 26/10/2023 18:06

Great news for your DD @Rollergirl11 and for all of the other Exeter offers!

spacechimp79 · 26/10/2023 18:28

Nice one @Rollergirl11 Your DD must be thrilled!

stoneysongs · 26/10/2023 18:37

Great news @Rollergirl11! 🥳

Rollergirl11 · 26/10/2023 18:43

Thanks everyone; it was worth the wait!! DD is chuffed to bits and it certainly takes the pressure off.

catmomof3 · 26/10/2023 18:54

Congrats to your DD @Rollergirl11

Jaxx · 26/10/2023 19:18

@Rollergirl11 brilliant news and great offer!

It was a real relief to get Exeter as he would be very happy there. Now just have to wait and see if he gets more options to consider.

That’s great…and how wonderful to get the lower offer …really takes the pressure off.

Congrats to your DD @Rollergirl11. It takes so much pressure off when they get a generous offer from a uni they like. No news for Exeter here yet, but DD is very happy with Bristol’s offer so quite chilled.

UZS · 27/10/2023 10:54

My son applied for History to Exeter, Bristol, St. Andrews, Durham and Cambridge on October 15th. He is predicted 3 A* and attends an independent school.

Received AAA offer from Exeter on October 25th.

No other offers yet

Revengeofthepangolins · 27/10/2023 11:02

Was just looking at Exeter English (fascinated by @Rollergirl11 jnr's fab ABC offer) and was surprised to see that the standard tariff is shown as AAB. Not sure if I am going mad, but I really think it was AAA last year and previously. Have I lost the plot, any other english peeps?

Rollergirl11 · 27/10/2023 11:40

@Revengeofthepangolins i noticed this yesterday! It definitely used to be AAA and as recent as this summer so you’re not going mad.

Phew! I rather pride myself on research accuracy and was starting to doubt myself 😂

UZS · 27/10/2023 14:33

Interesting as I noticed the same thing with History

The “standard offer” was AAA and then when I checked back about a month ago it had been changed to “typical offer” AAA-AAB

WombatChocolate · 27/10/2023 15:48

I wonder if Exeter will make the AAA offer to lots of candidates and then as it gets close to the time to Firm and Insure, tell lots that they can have the lower offer of AAB if they Firm….a bit like they are doing with the EPQ candidates who get the lower offer but only if they Firm.

Otherwise, who gets the AAA offer and who gets AAB if it isn’t a contextual thing?

Yes interesting speculation

My son is predicted three A stars so I thought (incorrectly, it turns out) that since he’s presumably at the top end of Exeter applicants perhaps he’d be offered the AAB as an enticement to firm.

Now it appears AAA will probably be his lowest offer from any school so if he fails to reach AAA he will, I suppose, wind up in clearing

My son has the same predictions as your son & is also applying for History.

Similarly where he has offers where they advertise a range his offers are the top end. I suspect if they were firmed and a grade is dropped to the bottom of the range they would still be accepted but who knows?
