Hi all. I thought I’d make a new thread as the countdown one is filling up.
Results day is here and I’m sure we will all value each others support, today and for the next stage of their journeys.

I've already looked at the grade boundaries and they're much higher than last year and even a tiny bit higher than 2019 😩

Where do you find grade boundaries ?

mrsconradfisher · 17/08/2023 09:02

LaDeeDa123 · 17/08/2023 08:58

Where’s his firm @mrsconradfisher ? Perhaps people on here have experience of it and can put his mind at rest?

It’s Birmingham. It’s an amazing Uni but just not what he wanted for many reasons. Honestly don’t know what he is going to do now. Nothing in clearing that he wants available with his grades.
I suspect he will just defer and have a think about what he wants to do.

Nugg · 17/08/2023 09:02

HE DID IT! AABB 🤗SOOOOO PROUD!

tribpot · 17/08/2023 09:02

Braveheart35 · 17/08/2023 08:59

That's the message I'm hearing. Lots of missed A*A but unis coming confirming places.

That's been our experience too. Predicted - and needed - A*BC, got BBB but still in to his firm choice. He's a bit bemused by the outcome but it gets him where he needs to be.

Congrats to all who've got their place and best to luck to those still waiting or making a decision.

AnxiousFairyQueen · 17/08/2023 09:02

Well no-one will believe me but four A*s and going to Warwick!! Including further maths.

Meanwhile, friend and I took five minutes to split restaurant bill of £58😆

kidstaxidriver · 17/08/2023 09:04

Did less well than anticipated but got firm offer so a funny old morning! Need to get one remarked as right on the A boundary according to the school but right now I have a lot of love for his firm Uni as they could well have not taken him at all!

PacificState · 17/08/2023 09:04

AQA Physics turned out alright then @tribpot!

MorePressureMoreRelease · 17/08/2023 09:05

DC got x2 Astar and x2 A. Didn't meet his STEP grade. Frustratingly Imperial are still thinking about his application so he's in limbo although the insurance offer is confirmed.
Any tips for what to do next?

LaDeeDa123 · 17/08/2023 09:05

@mrsconradfisher Birmingham is an amazing university and I’ve known lots kid young people who have loved it. If it’s not for him though, he’s entitled to feel that way. Are you sure there’s nothing in clearing?

Ottercave · 17/08/2023 09:08

Absolute devastation here.
DS had been predicted A*’s all the way along. Needed AAA for his first choice.
Got BBC and off to his insurance choice.

DisforDarkChocolate · 17/08/2023 09:08

aleC4 · 17/08/2023 08:41

Ds didn't get what he needed for his apprenticeship. I'm absolutely gutted for him.
He has no other plan. He's going to try and contact them today and beg although he has no contact details of who to get in touch with.
He didn't get a c on maths so I think it will be a no.
He's so clever, and would be brilliant at the apprenticeship, but just is rubbish at exams. Sad

Have a look at functional skills, I think you can get the equivalent in Maths and if it's anything like the English it will be a lot more practical. It should be free too, he could offer to do it alongside his apprenticeship.

Gulplastonetogo · 17/08/2023 09:09

Very happy here
2 X A star , 1A.
Friends have mostly met or exceeded expectations except for people doing physics it seems.
One friend is into first choice (highly ranked) uni having dropped 2 grades from offer (offer on 2 A stars and an A).

cptartapp · 17/08/2023 09:09

A star Maths, A star Biology, A Chemistry (and that was on 85%). Very high grade boundaries there were 87% was needed for A star!
Very pleased.
Place confirmed for MChem at York.

I don’t know, but is it possible that the courses in clearing might take slightly lower grades than advertised, which seems to be the case with a lot of the offers so far?
Is it possible to talk to someone at Loughborough directly?

I’m so sorry.

Stokey · 17/08/2023 09:10

There's an article in The Times (firewall) saying the RG has released more clearing places this year, just under 3,000 compared to 1,500 last year so they've obviously realized grades are lower.

Good luck to everyone still waiting.

PacificState · 17/08/2023 09:04

AQA Physics turned out alright then @tribpot!

Yeah I guess kind of @PacificState . DS was only a couple of marks off an A in his mocks, so I'd hoped working with the tutor might pull his grade up but I'm slightly reeling that his predicted A* in Biology turned into a B - I can see a lot of people on the thread have had similar experiences but it's tough for the kids when it feels like they were expected to do better.

Anyway, all good and we can look to the future now.

tribpot · 17/08/2023 09:12

So sorry @Ottercave that is really hard.

Candleabra · 17/08/2023 09:12

Missed grades here and bitterly disappointed. Very unexpected.
No email from firm choice, but UCAS says place confirmed (on 14th August) - does that mean it’s ok?

averythinline · 17/08/2023 09:14

no idea on grades yet ... but dc into Swansea which was first choice so relieved...and a bit nervous as miles/hours away! they're in shock as convinced had completely mucked up at least 1 paper!

I’d say so.
ds is in the same place.

Candleabra · 17/08/2023 09:17

@LifeIsShitJustNow truly shocked by the results, only missed her firm offer by one grade but it was a low offer (for her) and didn’t think the exams had gone that badly

SB1971 · 17/08/2023 09:18

Still no results here….despite others from her college getting theirs
Sooo frustrating-she isn’t going away this year but very tense all round here as she has now had to go out to fulfil a commitment.
Hey ho-am sure they will come at some point !
